That's not a bad point JavaGuy, but in all fairness the heart's strength isn't constant. When a person is calm and the heart beats normally, it doesn't use nearly as much power and strenght as it can handle. A duck's quack most certainly does echo. That's one that appears in an e-mail of "amazing facts" that someone sends me at least once a month. I started checking the "facts" in it the first time I got it, but I gave up after the first dozen or so when all of them turned out to be false. The duck's quack one was analyzed to death by the Straight Dope people some years ago. Before posting an amazing "fact" I recommend Googling for the "fact" together with "urban legend." By "strongest" muscle, what do we mean? Able to extert the most force in proportion to its mass? Or able to do the most total work without tiring? I've always heard that the jaw was the strongest in terms of exerting raw force, but you can't beat (no pun intended) the heart for ability to keep going and going. The problem with debating the "strongest" is that there are different kinds of strength. Think physics: There's force, work and power. Machine A might be able to exert far more force than machine B but only for a brief period of time. Machine B might be able to do more total work before pooping out, but it may take longer to do it. Machine C may be able to do more work in less time (power) than the other machines, but it may poop out long before machine B and thus not be able to do nearly as much work in a day. Dude I kid you not, the heart is without a doubt the strongest muscle in the human body. I've heard it all my life from my Grandpappy (who works in a funeral home). He must have told me 1,000 times about the heart taking so long to creamate because it is the strongest muscle. 50% of all newlyweds in Kentucky are teenagers because the legal age to get married there is 16.
