ok hi all, i just need to release my fealing on the word(s) like Newbie and how i have always and still do interpret and it just may branch of into a thousand other points but that i your fault for not knowing when i start to ramble and just skipping a line or two, of course it is also your fault if you skip a line or two and then ask a question i had answered in that line and you get ignored because i REALLY think someone should take the time to read the whole orriginal post if not all the posts before you came, so you are all up to date, after all the subject may have changed.
Newbie to me always meant new gamer, someoen who just picked it up, or who played the whole game using God mode, Noclip, and Give all cheats and then turned tried playing without cheat (IE: aint gonna happen) this is not an offensive term just a statement i say without shame i am a complete newbie to the game Newb brings aobut the same feelings as Newbie, just without the extra letter, and good for being lazy, it is again a gamer who is brand new to it, and will with time get better Noob or n00b has always been an offensive term/insult, it is a player who thinks he is the best there ever is when he is really just a slightly experianced newb who has only played against other begginers and gotten lucky or has good skill, also one who only wins because of cheats, and would never win without cheating or when they play againced a experianced player, and also one who relies on only one move of a series of moves. so in summary: Newbie=inoffensive/good=newb n00b=VERY OFFENSEIVE/BAD!!! um yeah that is all i had to say, say what you will maybe broaden it out to other terms if you wish... whatever. _______________ Midbie Council Member #13 Padawan of SilkMonkey Stuntman extraordinaire |

Hey pepsi you want to go broadcast that "1337" history lesson on the MSN Zone once an hour for a week? I know of several brats there that need to be shut up in the worst way with their horrible spellings of n00b pwn and other things. _______________ When you are going through Hell, keep going. -Sir Winston Churchill. lol. I'm starting to like you, ioshee.
There is also a mental aspect of the word noob that needs to be taken into calculation. Ppl who brag about how great they are at this and that are noobs. Ppl who can only win if the settings are so and so are noobs. Ppl who claim sabers beats guns are noobs (or maybe just newbies since it's obvious they have never tried it). Ppl who use very 1337 writing are BOUND to be noobs, since 1337 writing has no function what so ever today, except to show off just how '1337' one is, and that is EXTREMELY newbieish. As a point of interest I'll (unasked, don't thank me) take up its origin here. A loong time ago there was no internet, but only dial up connections to places called BBS's (Bulletin Board Systems). Many of these places were tapped by FBI, since it was well known that much of the computer related illegal activities was planned and carried out here, as well as information was being exchanged. Tapping a connection between two computers back then was no more difficult than tapping a regular phoneline, as 'encryption' still was a thing of the future. As a matter of fact, it was easier still, since you didn't have to have a person listening to it, but could instead just put a computer there that 'listened' in and reacted to words that existed in a predefined list of possible targets or specific words known to be part of the so called "hacker jargon". These specific words (and a portion of the text surrounding it, sts) was then logged to a teleprinter (fax). Underground hackers now found themselves being threatened by exposure, and not only them but their entire community of friends. The solution was to trick the stupid computers by replacing letters with other alphanumeric chars. 'I' becam '!' and 'E' was transformed into 3 and so on and so forth. This was VERY easy encryption, and writing a program for it was not a problem at all. Nowadays, however, you'll be considered an idiot in the world of computer crimes if you don't use at least 6 different software handshakes and write your own 128 bit DES encryption system with hardcoded keys... And still you won't be entirely certain somebody who shouldn't is listening.... yours truly Pepsi, the computer history teacher |

Agreed. "Newbie" and even "Newb" to an extent to me has always meant "the new guy" while "n00b" = "a big idiot".

totally agree with you. i hate the term n00b. people who use it are complete ponce asses. thats why i never venture to public servers. thank god we have a lovely establishment where people dont use terms like that. instead of asking someone if they are a newb or newbie, i ask them if they are new to the academy and how much they already know about the game itself. thats my 2 cents. _______________ "We keep odd hours...." ----------------------- They Live, We Sleep |
