Well, it's that time of year again! The NHL playoffs start on Wednesday and this year's matchups are the best in a long time! 5 of the 6 Canadian teams are in, with 2 matchups between Canadian teams; Ottawa vs. Toronto (BIG rivalry), and Vancouver vs. Calgary. There's also one "Original Six" matchup; Montreal vs. Boston. Unlike in past seasons, there's more than just 2-3 teams that are favorites to win it all. Here's all the matchups: Eastern Conference ------------------ Tampa Bay Lightning (1) vs. New York Islanders (8) Boston Bruins (2) vs. Montreal Canadiens (7) Philadelphia Flyers (3) vs. New Jersey Devils (6) Toronto Maple Leafs (4) vs. Ottawa Senators (5) Western Conference ------------------ Detroit Red Wings (1) vs. Nahsville Predators (8) San Jose Sharks (2) vs. St. Louis Blues (7) Vancouver Canucks (3) vs. Calgary Flames (6) Colorado Avalanche (4) vs. Dallas Stars (5) I'm, of course, rooting for my Isles, though they're not one of the many favorites to win it all. They do have a good shot to get out of the 1st round. I know our fearless leader, Mr. Doobie, is rooting for the Wings, while Axion, Ford Prefect and Flash will be rooting for the Bruins. Also, Dicemaster will be cheering for the Avs. I know there are other hockey fans here at the JA, so chime in with your thoughts on this year's playoffs! I think I am, that's why I stopped betting on the Super Bowl years ago! It sucks that Calgary lost, but it was definitely cool seeing Andrechuk hoisting the Cup after 22 seasons w/o one. Same deal when Borque won it with Colorado a few years back. Oh well, it's been 2 days since the season ended and I'm already getting the jones! Congratulations to the Tampa Bay Lightning, this year's Stanley Cup Champions! That was one hell of a game! I missed the 1st period, but supposedly Calgary didn't really do much. That save by Khabibulin with like 5 mins to go in the 3rd was unbelievable!!! Well, I now have plans for Monday night!!! TB really showed up last night. Their PP was clicking. What a game! This is by far the best SC Final I've ever seen in a LOOOOOOOOONG time! Monday is the last game we'll see for a while, since the NHLPA and the owners seem to only get together about once a month to try and get this damn CBA hammered out!  Plus, with ESPN shying away from hockey more and more (as evidenced by their planning on showing fewer games if there are any to show, plus the cancellation of NHL 2nite, the only hockey related show they broadcast), it looks like the NHL will die and all that'll be left is college hockey and and the minor leagues, and Long Island doesn't have a team, just boring-ass baseball!Well, that's enough of my rant... Game 7: Monday, June 7th @ 8PM EDT on ABC pregame show @ 7:30PM EDT on ESPN ...winner takes all!!! WOW!!! That was a good game indeed! Especially the end of the 3rd and the OT. End to end action!!! That's something we would not have seen if it was NJ vs. the Wings (sorry Doobie). Over on ESPN's NHL board, there's people complaining that this is the worst SC Final ever, but I have to strongly disagree! I actually think this is one of the best I've seen since the early 90s. I'm hoping it goes to 7 games as well with Calgary winning on Monday night, since, as Doobie pointed out, there may not be a season next year.
