Well, it's that time of year again! The NHL playoffs start on Wednesday and this year's matchups are the best in a long time! 5 of the 6 Canadian teams are in, with 2 matchups between Canadian teams; Ottawa vs. Toronto (BIG rivalry), and Vancouver vs. Calgary. There's also one "Original Six" matchup; Montreal vs. Boston. Unlike in past seasons, there's more than just 2-3 teams that are favorites to win it all. Here's all the matchups: Eastern Conference ------------------ Tampa Bay Lightning (1) vs. New York Islanders (8) Boston Bruins (2) vs. Montreal Canadiens (7) Philadelphia Flyers (3) vs. New Jersey Devils (6) Toronto Maple Leafs (4) vs. Ottawa Senators (5) Western Conference ------------------ Detroit Red Wings (1) vs. Nahsville Predators (8) San Jose Sharks (2) vs. St. Louis Blues (7) Vancouver Canucks (3) vs. Calgary Flames (6) Colorado Avalanche (4) vs. Dallas Stars (5) I'm, of course, rooting for my Isles, though they're not one of the many favorites to win it all. They do have a good shot to get out of the 1st round. I know our fearless leader, Mr. Doobie, is rooting for the Wings, while Axion, Ford Prefect and Flash will be rooting for the Bruins. Also, Dicemaster will be cheering for the Avs. I know there are other hockey fans here at the JA, so chime in with your thoughts on this year's playoffs! The Avs are playing 2morrow nite at 8PM EDT. The game will be on ESPN. I was surprised that they actually showed the Isles game on ABC yesterday on the East Coast. Colorado Avalanche continue to win. They had a 5-2 victory over the Stars in Game two last night. Flames beat Canucks 2-1 in game two, tying that series at 1-1 Boston beat Montreal 2-1 in OT, making that series 2-0 Boston Theres a whole bunch more game 2's today, Tampa and NYI start at 3 P.M. ET (Tampa leads series 1-0) Wings take on the Predators at 3 P.M. ET (Wings lead series 1-0) Sharks take on the blues at 3 P.M. ET (Sharks lead series 1-0) Flyers take on the Devils at 7:30 P.M. San Jose beat St. Louis 1-0 in OT first game. the Senators beat the Maple Leafs 4-2. game 1. Flyers beat Devils 3-2 game 1. and eek billy this sux.. well bruins beat the canadians game one wednesday 3-0 and raycroft got his first career playoff shutout in his first playoff game in his rookie season.. the first person to do that since 1924 - Tiny Thomas is the person who last did that on the bruins.. I try to catch as many games as I can, but around this time ever year I break out my special tape ( not those tapes, this one is actually cooler than that ) If your from Detroit you know what I am talking about. It maybe a couple years old, and some Players have been added/removed from the roster but it still gets the hocky juices flowing. March 26, 1997 The summary: Approximately 30 minutes of delay in the 1st period alone just for the refs to scrap Colorado blood off the ice. ( Note ALL Colorado blood, not one Red Wing was bleeding ) Yup even our goalie kicked thier goalies ass. Then just to take the cake this turned into one of the best Hockey games I have every seen, with a 6-5 victory in Overtime for the wings.
