Alright, here is what I think. (/me knows he will regret this) No matter what ANYONE says, ranking has ALWAYS been about popularity. Down through the ages, ranked individuals have always been the ones who spend the MOST time in this community, whether it be on the servers, IRC, Forums. Etc.... But let me ask you this; are these not exactly the individuals that SHOULD be ranked? Do the ranks alone not warrant that the individual selected spend alot of time in this community? And by spending that much time, are they not going to learn more and gain more skill in this game and this community than the rest of us? And by spending the most time in this community, does that not make you Popular? So, I don’t see why everyone is screaming about ranks being a popularity contest. Of course it is, but not in the sense that you think. This is not High School, or Middle School, or any other Peer orientated group. It is not like the most popular kid gets the girl. Or the most popular adult gets paid the most, you see? The most “Popular” people at JA are the ones that spend the most time dedicating themselves to the JA and the JAS. Instead of calling it a “Popularity Contest”, is it not really a “Commitment Contest” and don’t always those who commit the most time rank the highest and deserve our respect? It is the kiddies that suck on the ass of a ranked member that turn this view upside down. Those use to being subject to a “popularity based society” whether that be school, work, etc.... I have news for you. Ranked members are like civil workers. They are here to serve the JAS and carry out the strong arm of the JAC. And the moment they stop serving, committing, spending time, they either retire or are booted for inactivity. Sound like a popularity contest now? They have jobs to do. We all just come and go as we please. They are not privy to this type of behavior anymore. So, I commend the ranked and thank them for their service, and you all should do the same. Ulic Qel Droma, I have been heavily active at this academy solid for almost a year now. My Friends here are my Friends here. I have no eagerness to gain recognition or "popularity". Lots of people know who I am and I know lots of people. I have donated my design skills and server resources in the past to help this great place. Not for recognition man. This has been my home away from home for what seems like forever now. I cant imagine not being here. I love helping to make it better. And when ever I can donate design and fun stuff, it gives me a great release and do something FUN, rather than designing for clients all day long. When we had the JASE running, it was FUN to host game servers rather than just hosting clients. This place has made me not hate my computer anymore, hehe. I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! I was merely trying to settle the recent "Buzz" I have been hearing, especially from the new JAS. Flip the perspective, if you will. And once again, this is'nt high school. Don't make me out to be the kid in the corner crying for attention. OH, and FaDed Rox0rz. -DM- _______________ One Day, it will all end. Well we obviously appreciate it. But we didn't get the idea to make a post. () That was awesome and well written. Thanks to all of the JAK+'s which have dedicated their time to teaching us and answering our questions. We appreciate this place, and JAK+'s are the guys that keep it running. |

Doran sounds like you may read Robert Kiyosaki, Spencer Johnson and Kenneth Blanchard? Very well put my friend. If not and your a Manager of people, these are great authors: Books Titled, The One Minute Manager and Who Moved My Cheese? Excellent reading on Managing Life and People. This is interesting. Having been in two clans, I have seen the "popular" person mentality, and agree with what you are saying. I like the Academy (yeah, I know, I am a new member and all) so far, because I don't see the politics here that clans, which are much smaller in numbers, have. I like the concept of clans, and rarely agree with their execution. As a 34 year old with a family, and as a manager of people, I get to promote people in their careers, and some people let it go to their head, which is unfortunate, and benefits no one. I look at it like this...a great leader has to have a great ego, but a great leader doesn't sacrifice his followers BECAUSE of that ego. Rock on! |
