i wanted to call this the "official" JA logo contest, but i think i should get a JAC blessing first  (edit: yea, got DJ's blessing!)anyway, we now have a Logo Contest folder on our msn groups collection. so get out your copy of illustrator, photoshop, corel draw, ms paint, or whateva you got, and give it a rip.  also if anyone wants to submit something but is too lazy to sign up for the ja photo collection group then just e-mail it to me and i'll post it for you. here are some ground rules approved by DJ_Sith himself: 1. DO NOT use any copyrighted material. this means, no in-game screens of any Jedi Knight stuff. It would be ideal that whatever you create is all your own stuff. Also, be aware of any copyright issues on fonts you may have downloaded or acquired. Most font makers will let you use them however you like, they just like to know when they get used on something that's getting produced. DJ cannot stress how much he doesn't want you to use copyrighted stuff, so DON'T DO IT! 2. Make sure the idea (logo/text etc.) is reproducible at a high resolution for printing. (I.e. don't make a small image that looks good on the screen but will get all blurry and crap when blown up to a decent size and put on a T-shirt.) The ideal final format will be EPS, PDF, or some vector graphic format for ease of scaling. 3. The logo will go on a white (or light colored) background primarily, check the CafePress site for a full list of products. http://www.cafepress.com/cp/info/products/viewall.aspx (Ideally the logo should have NO background to it, but for preview purposes, please put it on top of white.) 4. The idea behind the logo is that it be in line with a corporate identity. I.e. meaning this logo can stand alone or have supporting text. It should look good when reproduced at a variety of sizes, from a bumper sticker to a wall poster. 5. The JAC's would like to see a variety of quality ideas, so treat this initial go around as brainstorming session. DJ and the JAC's have very high standards that they'd like to see upheld by representing the JA with a design that can stand next to the classic logos of our time (the NFL, yes the national football league, is actually a good place to look at how logos today can become powerful iconic statements. For example, compare the new Patriots logo to the old one. http://www.logoserver.com/NFL.html Newer logos such as the Texans, Falcons, Titans, and Patriots show how a logo can be relatively simple, yet make a bold statement.) Ideas will be refined and developed by anyone that wishes. The final decision does lie in the hand of the JAC's. When it comes to logo work, everyone has always told me to make it "simple and easy to identify". I guess this is a good thing since I have very little time to work on this before the deadline (just a couple of hours). Anyone can throw down some text and run a Photoshop action on it, but its damn hard to make simple look good.  So after liking the direction Aratan was going in, here is my simple black and white logo. OK, uploaded my logo with border (sorry for triple piccies of seemingly the same thing, but there are differences... one is without seperation of the A and the J (and as to avoid uploading 4 pictures, if you want the edge of A and J, at the very edge of the picture, just look at my picture with that on.... lol.... hope you understood ANY of that....). These are really simple submissions. I just did them in MSpaint real quick to get them in by the 22nd. I can redo either in Macromedia freehand if need be. Also, it's just a logo idea really, so there's no text with it. I thought the council could add whatever they wanted in that regard. Those who use another's work, and or copy righted material for the purposes of branding-- if not copied in detail -- will face no risk. If the person / company in whom which you were using material is a direct competitor as the person / company, you may face personal liability. PLUS, the boiler plate at the bottom of EVERY page on this site covers us too. Well we are the "Jedi" academy even though we have some dark force users we could just as easily be called the Sith academy so reble / jedi sorta goes together, It represents the way we act... Even dark force users or people who like useing stormtrooper skins must still follow the academies rules which as it says at the top of the rules page itself all come down to respect. I must ask you, though, why use the Rebel logo? That's like saying "we're all Rebel fans". Why not use the Imperial logo? |
