Duelling Protocol?

What exactly is the protocol for when you start a duel? I've kinda been fudging my way through it. I know that after the challenge has been accepted you go to either side of the room or whatever. Then you crouch and whip out your sabre (your light sabre in the game, perverts! :P)
Is someone supposed to light their sabre 1st? Or stand up 1st?
Thx

Charon is right about what he's saying... I just like to add that i personally don't usually light my saber first, it's not a rule, just another way for me to show respect...:)

There are a few things that are unwritten but considered valid protocal in duels as well.

First and probably most importiant, is that before you begin, you are open to agree to certian conventions for the duel. Id est; No kicking, or no striking downed opponents, no use of certian specials.

Secondly, when your opponent has his saber off, it's considered a sign of peace for the moment. This usually precludes answering that blasted phone thing, or him needing to type or adjust settings, or rush to the restroom. ;> Some people will begin a duel with their saber off and stay that way untill the make their first attack. Personally, I can't stand that for exactly the above reasons, it's not against any rule per-se, but I look at it as an abuse of the saber doused as being a sign of peace. Even if they're circling/rolling/jumping.

It's also considered better form to allow your opponents to finish any emotes they use as ignition stances/rituals. Alot of people will still attack you if you're spinning or waving or whatever because there isn't much you can do about it, but that's a little disrespectful to an opponents style of play. Again, it's my personal decision, but I allways wait untill my opponent has his saber drawn, and is walking (or crouch walking in the case of lungewhores. ;> ) Occasionally, you'll meet somone who will stand still and wait for you, but if they continue to turn to face you, it's a pretty good indication they're ready.

And allways, allways honour the refusal of, or the request to end a duel. It's way annoying being challenged by the same person 5 times a minute when you have something else planned. Pulling somone off the platform because you want a fight and noone has come down is also pretty rude.

These are my ideas on in-duel behaviour, if anyone else would like to add, or contest anything, feel free to.

it all depends on the person you are fighting. You go to the opposite side, bow, and ignite your sabers. Sometimes, you see people with cool saberignitions (ive lost mine...), or things like that. Sometimes, you see the other person circle. So, you two circle eachother, then one person rushes in for the attack. Its pretty neat watching those

Nope that's pretty much the protocol right there. BTW, that crouch thing is called bowing, it's the closest the game has to one.
