Boring dry theory in classes

I read some post somewhere about ppl sometimes needing to be lined up, sitting the f**k down, and shutting the f**k up and just listen.

This is all very good and well, but it is a VEEERY timeconsuming (not to mention boring) thing. A smarter way to get around this is to put the "dry theory" and other text stuff in the class details. This way everybody won't have to wait for the instructor to think up rules for the guns FFA that will be played later on and stuff like that, and I think it would reduce the disciplinary actions (slapping, etc) a lot, since ppl kept busy are ppl kept happy (they tried this in Auschwitz, but the chores were just too boring, I suppose).

So... if this doesn't get to be common law from the council, I think the instructors should think about this when they book slots on servers. That way they can go directly to the questions and then to the action. It reduces waiting a whole lot and maximizes play time, and isn't that what we all want?

Type on (but faster!)

No, Ioshee. The only thing I learned about patients was how to remove acupressure induced paralysis (sorry, couldn't resist going for the throat at that misspelling).
When we practice Wing Chun we combine lectures with physical training. For no apparent reason what so ever, this increases the efficiency of the training, and the endurance of the students.
I'm not sure this would work when we have to read what we 'hear', but someone mentioned vocecomms so...

Cheers

Hmmm that would mean.... more time consuming for the JAT's, which btw are already devoting alot to this place, and less time consuming for the students... this however equals BAD. Not only would it make it harder on JAT's, it would kind of make the students less appreciative.

And if you think I expect you to actually read it.... lol! I seriosuly doubt our classes need a syllabus, and it would only leave more time in class to practice the ame thing, over, and over, and over......aghhh!

If I could get ahold of a decent mic, I'd be all for using Roger Wilco or some such to give the lecture. It's difficult to type entire dissertations trying to explain a single thought, and if I could simply speak it, my classes would be a lot more hands-on.

In all honesty though, the students need to bear with us a little. We can only type so fast! :)

Pepsi, I thought you said you have been studying Wing Chun for the last eleven years. In those studies did you learn nothing about patients?

You also compared the classes here to Auschwitz. I’m sure you were joking and I’m not offended in the least, but you are comparing something voluntarily attended (Jedi academy) to something that people attended against their will (concentration camp.) If you don’t want to take classes then don’t.

The teachers are teachers for a reason. Their word is law and the law should not be questioned. This is not a democracy; it’s a jediocracy. Um, I think I just confused myself. My point is, If you don’t like the way a teacher teaches, don’t take classes by that teacher. If you feel you could do a better job teaching, become a teacher and do it.

It’s like saying you could run the country better than the president could. Well then, become the president so that we can all be blessed by your abundant wisdom.

I mean no personal offence to you Pepsi. I want to like you. You just need to find humility to find peace.

I believe that trainers should be strict about keeping people sitting and not goofing around when they shouldn't be.

Some of the classes I like best are those taught by Huxley and skyler. Those two guys always keep you moving and thinking, even if they make you do all the work *cough* skyler *cough*. :D

Why should our government send our soldiers to foreign soil to protect freedom of speech, when our freedom of speech is being taking away everyday by the same government.

I agree with DJ.

Maybe if a student has something worth sharing then they should be able to explain and show it. Of course it has to tie into the class but that's kinda implied.

Putting the lecture notes in the class details doesn't mean the students will read it. The instructor's lecture is to get you prepared for the practice and dueling thats to come. While it's more fun to get out there wwith sabers on hacking away, thats not what we're about. If an instructor decides to explain the combos/special moves/etc before practice time thats his or her business and should be respected by the students.

I do think that the instructor should however try to make the lecture interesting and interactive. JAT's: are you reading this? :)
