I went onto the chat page, typed in my nickname and clicked connect. Once I connected, the channel didn't exist therefor creating it.

Edit: OMG, works now!

Its not to do with YOUR Internet, its to do with the IRC network's servers :)

My internet was working totallly fine, but I think that it may be just the window. It must not have loaded properly or something. I opened the chat window twice. When I only had one open, it created it. When I opened the second window and connected, it connected properly. But whenever I tried that window, it was screwing up.

Maybe it was netsplit, maybe it wasn't. At least I know that it's probebly just me.

NetSplit is when one server disconnects from the network of servers (in this case, QuakeNet's network of servers). What probably happened is that you joined the server, and before you could join the channel, the server you were on split from the network, meaning that you were left 'alone' on the split server, whilst other servers were still connected and still in the channel :)
