Yup I know it's kinda late to write this thread, but I decided to write it cuz of Faded's retirement although his retirement has really nothing to do with this... We've all noticed a retirement wave recently; specifically, an oldbie retirement wave. Most common reason, from what I remember, was "Things have changed in this place. I don't feel it's the same from when I joined"... Thus, there is something they dislike about the way things are run, and moving on. Yeah time moves on, nothing stays the same... But listening to the oldbies' opinion isn't bad either. I think most of us know Hux, and here's a comment he left on his profile: Quote: hmm, there has been talks about people wanting me to come back. I'm not so sure I can relate to how the academy is being run, its quite the opposite that I had felt it should be at this point. And most of us know that Hux only wants this place to be well and never stop "being". I'd love to hear your thoughts on ways to improve... we still have mad respect for your opinion round these parts It's nice to see that Doobie actually cares about Hux and his opinion, and hopefully other oldbies' point of view. (And btw Hux hasn't yet replied to Doobie's comment, as far as I know; unless he made a JAC post or sent an e-mail)... The way to do well in the future is to have deep knowledge of the past. I'm sure DJ & Doobie are really aware of what has happened, but it's somewhat hard for 2 people to be able to foresee the future of 7000+ people (of which 1000 are active, anyway). I'm not good in finding solutions for things such as this, but my suggestion would be that the (oldbie) guys who retire for this reason (as long as they're respectable and stuff) be contacted and asked why they think things have changed and what solution they suggest. Of course some of you may have better ideas for this problem, that's for sure. It's bad to lose JAKs and JATs because of this, heck even JACs... A good staff member should be able to adjust to the constant changes brought by the time. I'm sure our staff is worthy of its title, and _can_ adjust to times. I think that what the JA lacks is support and signs that it cares about the oldbies' opinions... For the oldbies were the past, and the past will create the future, built on experience... If you think this was "Yet Another Pointless cmad Post", then sorry for wasting 5-10 mins of your time... That is all I had to say, have a nice day  - cmad PS. as someone who has been in this academy for a while, and seen it in all kinds of diff stages, i can pretty safely say that there is NOTHING wrong with the academy. the only thing(s) i see gonig on that could lead to problems in the future: -all these "jedi of the month", "whats wrong wit hthe academy", "omfg someone retired, the academy msut be dying", etc kind of posts. we're here to learn. ppl are still learning. theres nothing wrong. stop trying to get attention. -power trippers. this is something ive seen since my first days at the academy. but its always been kept at an OK level. handled with restraint. im not talking about full on admin abuse, im just talking about admins using thier silly powers to get "respect" or some other BS. its a game. im not naming names, you know who you are. im just saying it could lead to way worse things. all im saying, is that for this place to survive, you're going to have to make(keep) this place what it says it is. a school. as long as people are learning, and teachers are teaching, it should be fine. theres nothing wrong with the academy. |

yes cmad. thats the way companies do it, if a person gets kicked or quits itself there is a hearing, or a personal chat about the company and stuff. this, of course also takes into account that the ppl leave in good faith, rather than in bad mood. I might point out that the new wave of Knights are JK3 specialized. This is an issue as players of a game, not faces of a community. And yes, even behind the scenes not much has been said regarding those retirements, and I for one am dying to gain knowledge of what it was that provoked people to pack their bags. The retirements themselves are inevitable: as with all things, change is the only constant in our ranks as well, and the Council succesfully recognizes fresh faces are needed to keep revitalizing this community. However, when several people leave for undisclosed reasons for the public but for us as well it leaves us in the dark, and unable to react to feedback. Consider this a call for those who have decided to remain silent, for it leaves us unknowing. - Ken |

well i do have to say that we try, hard, to find out what's wrong with people, but a lot of the time people decide to up and leave instead of actually taking the time to TELL us what's wrong. They just assume that we know. Uhhhh, right, we can read minds, I forgot. To this day I still dont' have the slightest clue why Hux and Aeth left, even though I've tried to talk to Hux (Aeth, however, seems to have vanished). And yes we did have a wave of "I'm not feelin the JA" anymore retirements, but most of those were before the big revamp we had a while back, and the only retirements we've had since then have been aphex going to the army and faded going to ooka booka tonga. we of course would love for the retireds to come back, and in fact I know of at least one who will be coming back in time... but we can't spend our lives tracking these people down. i haven't had a "the academy is lame" complaint since we revamped it, mainly because the revamp addressed every bloody issue that we know of that people had, besides the fact that they hate jk3. I don't think I said "e-mail them w/o reading their retirement speech". I think I said that they should be contacted if it's found that they leave due to such matters. Good Idea, I just think that it depends on their leaving speech wether they should be emailed or not. Did everyone leave partially for that very same reason? Probebly, but who knows? Looking at their retirment speech's before emailing them would be yet another good idea. |
