Bump up Saber locks? | |
manta - Student ![]() |
3th and I had spoken the other day and we both agreed that we like saber locks, they are pretty cool looking and add in some suspense. I realize that a problem with this was that people would just bind their mouse wheel to attack1 and scroll. But maybe reloaded can somehow block attack1 from being binded to mousewheel? How do you guys feel? Would you like to see their frequency turned up? |

"I don't care how you look at that..." So, you're saying that our opinions do not matter just because you think it's unfair? According to the poll, the academy seems split on this subject. So, it's obviously not "...total and utter crap." |

I don't really care if it gives you hp by getting hit. If it is not about timing and skill it shouldn't be in there. I mean....lets say you have about 20 hp but you wield red stance. You get on a beutiful hit. You reckon he has no more than 10 hp left at the most. Then saberlock...he clicks faster...you die. I don't care how you look at that...It is total and utter crap.. thats my 2 cents _______________ ::Nothing wrong with a little shooting.....as long as the right people get shot:: |

As a modding über-n00b, is it possible to take the damage down to say 20? Can it be done, or is it a fixed thing? And if saberlocks aren't you're thing, we don't have many open duels anyway...not that I've seen. This comment was edited by o2b on Jun 04 2004 07:16am. |

I second that, saber locks are spiffy but the finishing move is no good, though the suspense is there...what we need is more saber parries, like in the movies sabers are always connecting but very few strikes are made. _______________ Look unto me for I possess the blue flag!! I'd like the sabrelocks if they were like they were in JK2 where if you lost the sabrelock, you'd either just get pushed back or fall back. What I don't like about the JK3 sabrelocks is the finishing move(s), whether they look cool or not, especially since there seems to be absolutely no way to defend against them. _______________ Midbie Council Member #2 - Profile ID 2073 | Member of B@rtM@ulS@ar | Owner of Monty's 2000th comment & D@RtHM@UL's 8100th comment | Former Padawan of SilkMonkey & Arcuss JA Goaltender & NHL Fan | Fellow Rush fan to Axion|Plo Koon is my oldest JA friend Post your RL pics HERE! | Post you JK2/JK3 screenies HERE! |

I like the idea of saber locks, that moment when you're nose to nose with your opponent was sw33t in JK2 and yeah the next few seconds involved major key/mouse mashing (old school gaming move) but often even if you lost your opponent would wait for you to get up as a sign of respect, similar to saber drop in JK3. Agreed the fact that, in JK3, it was almost always the end to a duel was a pain (although it did look nice). Orion post stated this was sorted, but not tested What great movie duel didn't at some point have the duellist locking swords/sabers (please don't be sad and give me any examples). If there still is a problem with servers crashing, obviously, it cannot be introduced but if not BRING BACK THE SABER LOCK with reduced damage ![]() _______________ *Bro to Vaxxla,Padawan of FiZZandOdan-Wei Part of the mighty Belouve Dynasty-Knight of Nippledom.Twin of Selphestal!**Proud Master to Kaelis and Acura Friend to anyone who would call me the same ![]() This comment was edited by Roan Belouve on Jun 03 2004 01:04pm. |

Bottom line....Its a lame move. Any other swing is based on timing, skill and some luck. Saberlocks are about who clicks the fastest. And even if you do turn down the dmg..I would be pissed as hell everytime i get dmg just cause i clicked too slow. It's just one in the many line of crap things raven put into this game. And I rather see it out completely than in just a little bit... _______________ ::Nothing wrong with a little shooting.....as long as the right people get shot:: |

good point 02b, maybe not in actual duels, but ffas? I also like the idea of turning down the damage, because they are still quite cool looking. Good ideas. |

Surely with our uber-smart coding boffins couldn't they 'tweak' saberlocks to be acceptable? Ie lessen the damage (yea I know they're supposed to be a finishing move) and reduce the frequency of them? I for one love them and I've been hunting for a way to increase them in SP (Help, anyone? ![]() Or how about allowing them outside of 'k' duels? So, as I like to call them, "open" duels? Which would be another aspect to FFA's ![]() I'm getting excited just thinking about it ![]() |

well Javaguy there as far as I know there isn't any counter for it.![]() ![]() |

Billy, in JK2 there most certainly was a finishing move that could finish the duel if you won a sabre-lock. RDFA. Boom. Over. Of course, a fair-to-average player knew to bounce up and be out of the way before getting hit by it, but even a good player sometimes messes up. I don't recall JK2 having one sabre-lock every five duels. My experience was that I averaged five sabre-locks for every one duel. It happened way too often. In the whole time since JK3 came out I've only experience two sabre-locks, both against an opponent wielding dual sabres, and in both cases my opponent did the trick where he throws one sabre without breaking the sabre-lock and cuts my head off from behind. Is there a counter to this? If there isn't then I hope never to see another sabre-lock again. But if there is a counter for it, I wouldn't mind seeing sabre-locks happen a little more often--maybe not five times per duel like in JK2, but more than once in a blue moon as happens now. _______________ My signature is only one line. You're welcome. |

lol thanks manta for point out that you and i are the only 2 people out the 100's of actives here that even remotely like saber locks! ![]() ![]() i thought it was a really nice change of pace for the game when a saber lock would happen maybe once in 5 or so duels. it got REALLY bad there when the JA mod started being tweaked, you'd get like 3 locks in one duel. and then the whole crashing thing. anyway, there's no hope of any saber lock revival. i'm come to accept that fate ![]() _______________ this is the internet, be serious damn it! |

Vanilla Coke SUCKS!!! I got sick the 1st time I tried it. As far as sabrelocks, on JK2 they were cool. If you lost the sabrelock, there was no finishing move that would end the duel. Worst case scenario was you just fell to the ground and your opponent could get in maybe one hit. It did get kinda annoying sometimes when every other time you'd attack your opponent, there'd be a sabrelock. With JK3, I could probably deal with them if there was no finishing move. Quote: the main reason saberlocks have been taken from the server is cause they caused the game to crash mostly cause the NPC's in the npc room got in a saberlock.. and got bugged that way.. I never knew that, good info! I personally don't like that saber locks can be over in less than a millisecond in JK3. In JK2, I was afraid that my mouse button would break during long ones. I don't miss them, but I see its not because anyone thought they were bad, necessarily, like I've been assuming. Its because of the NPCs... _______________ Gone but hopefully not forgotten... |

I gotta agree, although the suspense was cool, sometimes!, having a hard fought battle end on whether or not you were paying attention or not, and if you were, able to smash/click faster than the other person was probably the lamest way to finish. To me it just lacked thinking, outsmarting your opponent. Glad their gone on the JA, makes for better duels! _______________ Be honorable, be friendly, be trustworthy. Saberlocks in JK3 are the worst things since vanilla coke. It's is just a very lousy way to loose a duel. It was taken out (as previously stated) because of server stability issues. And I for one belive that it has also improved the quality of duels. Making some kind of edit so you cant bind this and that is nothing i find appealing.
