Why has nobody thought of this insanely cool idea? If there was a way of enabling only red and blue, u could tape down the change stance button...and get...PURPLE. I have to admit, it is very difficult to use medium against a staff, after all medium is staff's secondary. Staff and medium have similar range but staff has a slight edge with speed. However, I think that someone like Jaina could tame a staff master with medium and I'm working on it myself although it's tempting just to switch to the strong stance and pwn joo. _______________ Please visit the Arcane Academy, IP:206.251.236.204:29070. I don't think there is such thing as a best style. Blue is certainly the hardest to master but once you do it becomes quite useful and I don't just mean the lunge. If there's one thing I've learnt from JA, is that it's good to be versatile. It's handy to know two or three styles in your prefered saber type, because you might find that although you're stronger with red, your yellow is strong against duals and so forth. If you're asking with style is the easiest to master I'd have to say red. _______________ Please visit the Arcane Academy, IP:206.251.236.204:29070. Hosted by Mammoth Games. |

The question is, how can you determine equal skill? From when I played in the game, I remember Aphex showed me the balance of all styles, and how it all comes down to your mindset. It doesn't really matter how well you can mash buttons, but the strategy you put behind the pressing. I mean, blue can even defeat staff or dual, but ONLY depending on how you use it ie where your mind is set. Although he did say that staff will always be the superior weapon, I don't believe that. Maybe in technical terms such as damage, or speed etc. But not depending on how you manipulate to battle. Well as I said, it's all about the mind and how it works, if you can get that down, you can conquer any obstacle in your way. EDIT: Oh yeah! I almost forgot, the most important part in playing at your best, is to have fun. Just have fun, and everything'll be alright, don't worry, it's just a game This goes for all sorts of games out there, sports OR video games, just have fun This comment was edited by Fire on Sep 11 2004 04:18am. |

I am gonna have to protest to this from. You can not farely compare staff or duals to a style of single. Staff is only staff so of course it will be better then 1 of the 3 styles of single. If you take away 2/3 of a weapon of course it is not going to do as well as another weapon. Compare singles styles to one another fine, compare single to staff fine, but dont compare 1/3 of single to staff, that jsut dont work. _______________ Using no way as way. i use red mostly but a balance of yellow/red and even sometimes blue is necessary to fully use the single saber. timing and knowing when to use which stance and what combos is key. _______________ I fite for teh usars!1 |

and yeah an overall skill level is hard to determine since people have a different level of proficiency at each area of the game (countering, movement, timing, hitting, stances, weapons and such). |

i am inclined to disagree sid. in bwn at least, most of the top players are single users. |

ahhhhh mister Sid, i think you've touched on a very indeterminable aspect of this game..."equally-skilled." i submit to you, for the sake of this argument, there is no such thing. let the discussions begin!!! _______________ this is the internet, be serious damn it! |

Staff does damage like a red swing, but it moves faster than yellow. If two equally-skilled players fight, the staff-user will win. If you go to public servers, almost all the players ranked at the top are staff users. _______________ © |
SaBrE - Ex-Student |
personally, i like the single saber i think it depends on how much skill you have which is better. if two equally skilled people fought eachotehr, one with staff, one with single either would win as they have the same skill. the actual saber is just different moves. if you get a good hit with red it does a lot of damage! if you get a good hit with yellow it does a lot of damage! if you get a good hit with staff it does a lot of damage! that's all there is to it _______________ "Yep! I've been drinkin' again" |

P.S. I voted staff superior because it vastly overpowers yellow/blue and, if timed properly, is just as deadly against red. Its only weakness lies against double-sabers, but the vast majority of people use singles. Thus, you are able to beat most people. Thus, staff is the best. _______________ © |

Well I think stance styles are just the beginning of a fighting style, I mean there are lots of tactics for any saber to be used with, from an agressive style to a counter style and all between there's many ways to fight with any style. to change a stance style changes your opponents style as well, and this to me is a part of the dance too. You can take countermeasures against your opponents best tactics by using something that's good against it. for instance, when you go from red to yellow, you may hit the next hit because the other didn't expect your gained speed. Even if not, the other will change his style (not nececarily stance) to suit yours. this way you can adept to the other persons changes as well if you expect them and so on. well I hope any of you get what I'm saying... if not I don't care _______________ <Signature'd> |

Siduro and Jaina are both correct in saying that adaptability is key. You wouldn't fight the same way against a defensive player as you would an offensive player, for instance. Yellow's mix of power and speed likely does make it the best of the 3 single saber stances. But I suppose that depends on how you like to fight. |
Carve - Student |
Yellow certainly has its strong points. There is no greater stance than yellow to use against a defensive opponent. Unfortunately, a yellow user really can be quite easily defeated by a skilled staff user of equal skill. There is no denying the effectiveness of redstance when used sparingly. It can easily crush both your opponent's defenses, as well as their mindset. Few things are as devastating as receiving a 60-damage debit in one blow. Blue stance, though greatly underappreciated and rarely used, also has its strongpoints. The greatest unpredictability comes from the effective and mindful use of all three stances (as far as the single-bladed saber goes). Also, it depends strongly on the situation and environment. On a tiny platform or in a crowd or trapped in a narrow hallway, the evasive aspects of yellow stance are vastly nullified, and yellow simply has neither the range nor power to compare to red in such a situation. As Jaina mentioned, adaptability is the cornerstone of an effective dueling style, regardless of what your technique entails. _______________ © |
