ALRIGHT WE MOVED THAT DISCUSSION OVER HERE. Was Jesus too tolerant? IMHO, The person who is grounded in faith, has convictions, and speaks out to expose and reprove error (Col. 1: 23, I Cor. 15: 58, Eph. 5: 10, 11) is often charged with: "you have no tolerance! The charge presupposed we are to be unconditionally and without qualification tolerant. Your question focuses on Christ regarding his life and teaching. For those of us who believe Jesus is the promised Messiah, Jesus' attitude toward error and sin is very important. Jesus was tolerant in matters morally and doctrinally indifferent. The Pharisees were very concerned and intolerant at Jesus' disciples plucking and eating corn ("wheat," dm) on the Sabbath. However, Jesus was tolerant (Matt. 12: 1-8). The Pharisees were also very intolerant regarding Jesus' disciples eating without "washing." Jesus, on the other hand, was tolerant (Mk. 7: 1-13). Jesus was intolerant. The casual reader of the New Testament has observed many instances of Jesus being intolerant and outspoken. In the foregoing cases regarding the Sabbath and the washing of hands, Jesus was intolerant with those who bound their traditions (Matt. 12: 1-8, Mk. 7: 1-13). The most wonderful sermon ever delivered is the Sermon on the Mount (Matt. 5-7). This sermon actually is an expose of Phariseeism. Jesus expressed much intolerance and was very plain and outspoken (Matt. 5: 20, 27, 6: 1-8). Was Jesus inconsistent? Upon closer examination one sees that when Jesus was tolerant, there was no sin involved, when Jesus was intolerant, sin was involved. Christians are to mimic Christ (I Pet. 2: 21). Hence, in matters not involving sin, the Christian is tolerant; but in matters involving a violation of God's laws, the Christian must be intolerant. God's word is also the standard to determine right and wrong - not emotions or what is politically correct (Gal. 2: 14). These are just my opinions and the opinions of people who make sense to me. We as Christians, as a whole have become more and more tolerant of things these days. I feel that primarily because, if we don't we will be labeled as "hate-mongers" and such. As I feel i am not as tolerant as some, how can you not be? You would have to throw your TV out the door pretty much, keep your children home and school them yourself, (which we do), and basically not participate in life in general. I am not going to go into specific points and my specific views and specific things. But if you really want to know. Everything I beleive is based on the Bible. If it says it is wrong, then i beleive it. If it says it is Godly, then I beleive it. Of course you can completely bash apart my stance on the Bible being God's word. However, don't you think you could get your point acrossed alot better by having an objective discussion so that all can entertain all notions, rather than REACTING and coming to the point where your flamming uncontrolably to the degree where you vocalize the fact that you had better stop? I quite agree, people have got too caught up in religion and forget the person, God, behind it all. One of my favourite quotes (by an source that won't be named as it will likely bias people's views of the quote) is, "Religion is when God leaves and people devise a set of rules to fill the void." I feel that explains it so perfectly. God isn't interested in strict 'plans of action', he wants your respect and love. He wants a relationship as a father to a son, not as a cop to an citizen. Yes he wants you to do what he says, but isn't that still what a father demands? A father demands the rules in love whereas a cop would demand the rules because they are rules. I agree with that man. The way I look at that is, to be a CHRISTIAN you are to follow Jesus and be CHRIST LIKE. These acts of men are not Christ Like and therefore, in my view, they are not truly Christian. They have been so caught up in Religion that they have lost sight of the very basic principles of what Jesus taught. If you put your faith in the actions of men instead of God, you are going to be let down every time. I DONT mean for this comment to offend anyonw if it does i am sorry but i will not change it. Christians throughout history have have been intolerant of other religons and even customs of sects of their own religon. My proof: The Spanish Inquisition and The crusades (I could state Hitler's Third Riech but he was just crazy). I bring up the spanish inquisition for two reasons: A - I'm jewish B - They mainly converted jews throughout spain. It is my opinion that back then it was either their way or the highway, and even today some still have that mindset. That kind of thinking is most prevalent in Ireland today. For those of you not aware of this situation heres a brief summary: Over the past few decades (I think its decades if not I'm wrong) there have been violent outbreaks of fighting and death because of neihboring villages that are either catholic or prodestnat. I even remember reading an article about the fighting with a picture of two catholic girls going to a private school in a protestant village under armed guard with a mob of prodestant protesters blocking the way. It made me think about every racial/religous/gender related prejiduce I've ever heard. I'm not joining the peace corps mind you it's just that I think that history and present day events show christians in general to be a tad intolerant. I know that there are christians who are the exact opposite of what I have stated ((Martin Luther King Jr. for example)and also the girl I'm dating) but the christians who commit acts of intolerance have painted a bad picture for the rest of the world to look at. _______________ Shout out to DJ Sith cause he's my big bro.
