Ok heres some tutorials and guides for you budding mappers skinner modelers and whatnot.Mapping Firstly go here to get the editor: http://www.qeradiant.com/?data=files&files_dir=21 http://richdiesal.jedioutcastmaps.com/tutorials/ (Beginner to intermediate) http://planetquake.com/bubba/mapping.html Begginer and Intermdiate http://www.massassi.net/tutorials.php All kinds http://planetquake.com/qworkshop3/tutorials/ Beginner --> Advanced http://www.pcgamemods.com/5223/ All kinds (Bunch of tuts in a zip) http://www.jkmapping.com Video Tutorials - Thanks to Xan. Skinning http://jediknight.filefront.com/file.stuff?body=CustomSkinningTutorial How to edit skins and get them in game. There are very few guides about how do skin well, just remember how it will wrap on the model, and know how to draw realistically with photoshop. http://www.gamingforums.com/showthread.php?t=87386 Some help with the latter here. Modeling I'll split this up into several sections. Player Modeling You will need 3DS Max to do this, which isnt cheap. Get the JK3 editing tools: http://jediknight.filefront.com/file.info?ID=18807 http://jediknight.filefront.com/file.info?ID=18604 Getting it to work. To do this effectively you really need to know how to model beforehand, and it's not easy. If you want to start modeling and you havent done it before, I advise you look at one of the other sections. Hilt Modeling You will probably want milkshape for this. http://www.massassi.com/coffeestain/03.html How to get your saberhilt from milkshape to JK2/3. http://www.btinternet.com/~howe_alison/brothers/tutorial/gmax_jkii_tutorial.htm An excellent hilt tutorial. Again you will need to learn to model seperately. Don't worry, i'll post some general milkshape or 3ds max tutorials at the end. General Modeling Tutorials Instead of posting a massive list i'll give you a link: http://www.gamingforums.com/showthread.php?t=63469 about 20 milkshape tutorials there. Also the official site's tutorials: http://www.swissquake.ch/chumbalum-soft/ms3d/tutorials.html 3DS MAX tuorials: http://www.3dcafe.com/asp/tut3ds.asp and more: http://www.3dbuzz.com/ Miscellaneous http://www.gamingforums.com/showthread.php?t=123422 Menu scripts http://www.gamingforums.com/showthread.php?t=109799 NPC's. Just scroll down and read the thread, all the info is there, if not completely clear. There. Thanks for reading this, hope you find it useful. Something for the Staff to look into, I've only been here about a month and the Tutorials and Guides post has been a great help. I noticed that *some* of the links for the *Tutorials* on Mapping, and Moddling don't work. ** The following links *Do Not* work** Mapping section: 2nd, 6th , 7th Hilt and Moddling: 1st, 2nd The post itself was made back in 2004 so I can understand that. I know the staff has a lot of pressing things to get done. So if you would off hand as a secondary project, look into the matter ? Thanks a lot Lone _______________ Honor, still counts for something. It doesn't work for me either. It used to work when Scythus made the post, though. This comment was edited by Setementor on Feb 22 2006 04:32pm. |

I was searching the post here and I found that the http://www.jkmapping.com for *Video* tutorials doesn't work on my end. Is it just on my end or can anyone else navigate the link ? _______________ Honor, still counts for something. Loyalty, is hard to come by. Integrity, is something to strive for. |

No problem on that. For me it's fun Thx for the help. This comment was edited by Vision on Dec 29 2005 07:18pm. |

Try using this method and applying the switch to it. The switch tutorial is meant for using it on a door, and this method uses the func_door, so it should be good. Sorry it'd mean redoing it. This comment was edited by Setementor on Dec 29 2005 04:02pm. |

I'll have a look shortly. |
Vision - Jedi Knight |
So how do you add a timer? |
Setementor - Jedi Master |
I seem to be having the same problem. The lift won't go down unless I step off it. |
tarpman - The Tarped Avenger |
The standard solution is as follows (using scripting): - elevator: func_static or func_plat - trigger: elevator goes up if character stands on at bottom - trigger: elevator goes up if called from top - switch: only one switch, located at top - timer: after going up, elevator *always* goes down after a certain amount of time (3-5 seconds) Sounds like the timer part of that would help you out. _______________ Saving the world, one kilobyte at a time. |
Vision - Jedi Knight |
I have like two floors. On the first one i have the elevator and a switch attached to it. Well it works this far. When i'm on the second floor the elevator goes down again to his primary position. Now I attached a second switch to it in the second floor. So i call it up, but i can't use it to go back to the first floor. Hope this makes it clearer (propobly not) This comment was edited by Vision on Dec 28 2005 06:28pm. |
Setementor - Jedi Master |
Not sure if this is what you mean, but try putting the switch next to the func_plat, so you can press it while standing on it. May have misunderstood. I'm not totally clear on what you mean there. |
Vision - Jedi Knight |
Got another one: how do you make the func_plat go down even when a character is on it? |
Vision - Jedi Knight |
Thx. |
Setementor - Jedi Master |
Try this and this. func_plat is often used for elevators. Once you've got that, you can apply the switch to it. This comment was edited by Setementor on Dec 27 2005 04:18am. |
