Seriously

When I got a message that I tried to upload my face-skin to Tony Hawk Underground and that the upload has failed, I just ignored it as spam.

now I'm receiving messages like this.
All things like that I'm subscribed to some gay doctor's newsletter and more stuff like that.

All stuff directly pointed to me, not even spam.

Whoever it is, STOP IT. You've had your fun. I haven't.

So stop it. It really isn't funny.
got it?

I use SpamAssasin.

Remember too, most spambots know exactly what "dot com," "daht kom" and a thousand other variations on that mean.

There's a newsletter for gay doctors? I didn't need to know that.

Don't forget that e-mail addresses posted on this site register in Google and other search engines, which means that spambots searching for addresses with a similar method can find them too. E-mail addresses posted on websites are, by most accounts, the biggest receivers of spam. Disguise your address somehow, don't just post it plaintext. :)

Example: youraddress@yourisp.net can be mangled into:

yourNOSPAMaddress@yourisp.net
youraddressATyourispDOTnet
youraddress at yourisp dot net
youraddress(a)yourisp(.)net

And so on. Do yourself a favor. :D

P.S. this goes for everyone, not just Bail and Setementor :P

How come you think it's a JA member responsible?

I didn't say it certainly was someone from the JA. But since there are 1000+ people in here, it's a big chance, since my e-mail address is on my profile for everyone to read.

hey Bail, and everyone else for that matter, i would recommend adding somthing to your e-mail address here on the site that a human knows how to get in touch with you but will throw off an e-mail farmer. i.e. if your address is bail@hotmail.com, just make your addy bailNOSPAM@hotmail, or something like that. that way people can still figure out how to get in touch with you but automated e-mail collectors won't get you on their lists. :)

I used to get lots of that kind of stuff. I think yahoo has managed to block all of these addresses or they have decided to leave me alone.

WHoah, I just got two of these in 2 weeks.
First one told me I won 750.000$
I didn't replied, and a few days afterwards I receive a new one saying I had just won... 1.500.000$
So, either we JA members are one hell of a bunch of lucky sonsuva, or that is uncontrolled, genuine spam. :P

Well let's hope this stops now... :)

BTW: Some sites that send you a mail when you subscribe, say "You subscribed using the IP 123.123.123.123". If that's the case in YOUR e-mails, then I think we can put this to an end!

I didn't know that Hotmail has a virus scanner! Could someone tell me where this is? Or how to get to it... or whatever :P

it's there :)
It automatically scans everything in your inbox for virii. When you have a virus infected thing, look at the Attachments part of the page. It will say something like:
The possibly hazardous attachment <attachment name> has been blocked
or something like that

Yeah, a friend of mine needed me to check her email for her, and in the junk mail there was all this crap about vibrators and all, so I guess you get random spam from which gender you put in when you craete the account.
I might be wrong though

Hey guys, I use outlook (and hotmail, but that's just my "all spam go here" address)...go grab mailwasher (mailwasher.com i think/hope) if you use a similar stand alone program...it's really useful, tells you what might be spam and you have the option to block the sender. Give it a week and you're fine for 6 months.

Secondly, if you're too lazy and don't mind spam in your box...DON'T open it. I get e-mails everyday from Amanda 'About last night' (and I KNOW what I did last night :P). Anyone else here can tell you with more knowledge, but don't open these...You'll be spending the night cleaning things up :(

Okay, Message of common good :D

I received a mail of something really official looking, telling me about a patch for Internet Explorer which is mandatory.
Unlucky for them, Hotmail happens to have a virusscan...

Whatever you do, don't download anything of that origin in case your E-mailer doesn't have a virusscan

normally DO NOT unsubscribe from the stuff you KNOW is spam, pills, porn, mortgages, etc.. that will just get you more and more spam, it's kind of their way of fishing for real people once they get you to unsubscribe they know there's a real person behind that random address that they happend to hit that was yours.

it's safe to unsubscribe from stuff that you know is a real subscription thingy though.
