hey guys guys a quick FYI, service pack 2 is causing a lot of problems for a lot of people. so DO NOT install it until there's fixes for the nightmares that are going around. BSOD, 20 min reboots, norton conflicts, sound blaster conflicts, etc. thought this was important enough to post in here. hope everything is sunny with everyone  edit: just so you know i'm not making it up, "... the myriad compatibility problems that users have begun encountering when attempting to apply SP2. ...Microsoft last week posted a list of nearly 50 applications that "seem to stop working" once SP2 is applied, and another set of about 200 applications that "behave differently" upon application of the service pack." taken from this eweek article. i guess if you don't have any of the 250 apps they mention go for it, but i wouldn't risk it if i were you. _______________ this is the internet, be serious damn it! It happens when there is a problem on the server. For example, the server administrator entered the command "sv_pure 1" because it was set to 0. This would cause this exact problem and have to be restarted in order for it to work. Similar things may also happen when the server crashes. It could be low computer specs too.  |

Well heres an update on my SP2 experience. Everything was working pretty well but sp2 completely screwed my computer up. It affected my JA too. NO servers at all would show and made my windows itself kinda screwy. Would take forever to shut it down and im running on a 2.4 ghz pc if that says anything. Best advice would have to be to just stick to SP1 untill these bugs are taken care of. The sp2 pack costed me about an hour and half of reformatting and downloading my updates again lol. _______________ 4/20/2005----Left the academy because I did'nt feel welcomed. It revises the way some applications and services deal with security and, in particular, file permissons. I had to review my machine's security policy (read: give "LOCAL SERVICE" and "NETWORK SERVICE" file permissions as well as "Administrators" and "SYSTEM" and now everything, including Norton 2003, is working fine again. I've just held of on installing it... I run my own firewall, use Firefox, and examine what I download... not much in SP2 for me, and I'd rather not gamble that Microsoft's intentions towards my system are good. _______________ ~Dav Proud Former Padawan of 3th |

supposedly install it (seems like there's a 90% chance it won't "break" anything), then just disable the new built in firewall that's on automatically and that should get you back to normal. that's what "they" say anyway. doesn't explain the buggy stories though. _______________ this is the internet, be serious damn it! |

yeh, and Ekim isn't the only one My SP2 works just fine..
