Ah, that's where the confusion comes from. Our system works like this:
After a gladiator defeats a fair number of opponents in an honorable fashion then he will be sent to a barbarian camp. Alone, without weapon or armor, he must defeat every last barbarian with his bare hands. Upon successful completion of that task, he will be awarded a handful of salt and send back to fight in the Colosseum once again. If the gladiator in question happens to repeat this chain of events three times, then he will be awarded with the honor of becoming the personal guard of the empress. You may question the wisdom in allowing a gladiator who was forced against his will to fight and kill in the name of Rome to become a royal guard, but the system has yet to produce a single assassination attempt.
