Again, nothing but sheer arrogance and hubris. How do you even dare to say that man is anything compared to the gods, yet alone that the gods have any interest in man beyond his sacrifices, games and the miscellaneous other pleasures that he serves them with?
What sheer arrogance to think that the gods were 'purposeless' prior to the creation of man, nevermind the claim that they weren't even in existence. You know nothing of the teachings of the ancients! Especially to think that 'we are masters of our own lives' is once more complete and utter hubris, for you betray no understanding of the power of moira and the ways of the gods. You betray ignorance of the gods. The first tenet of greco-roman civilization was the one written above the temple of Delphi:
Know thyself. Which means to know your place in relation to the gods, woman. To know that you are but a mere mortal, but yes, power sometimes blinds us into forgetting about things such as that. Religion eh... ohh, now you're unleashing a whole new potential storm of chaos upon my citizenry!
I will have to inspect their religions and gods on a personal basis and decide which best serves my vision of the future for my kingdom, and roll with that. Failing satisfaction with the above, I will abolish any church doctrine propositions and enforce a decree forbiding the practice of religion within my kingdom, and encourage the pursuit of something more worthwhile like say, the social sciences. The ban on religious practice will be lifted in direct correlation with my judgement of how enlightened the population has become.
