oh they are pic's file formats 
Example: You have saved your pic file, lets say bloodava.JPG that JPG tells that It is JPEG/JPG file type... It can also be bloodava.PNG or bloodava.GIF... You create different kind of file types by saving them to your computer
Lets say; you have just created pic with paint program... and you are going to save it with File -> Save As Paint's default file type at saving is "bmp" filetype... Hey I noticed on the showcase forum that you are in need of help, how to get your Avatar to work
First of all, I suppose you have an avatar which fullfils the requirement as It has written to the quote... Quote: Your profile picture must be a JPEG, GIF, or PNG image no larger than 250x250 pixels in dimension and 30K in file size.
Then you should go to personal category which has described with imperial and rebel logo... Take Edit Your Profile at the very end of this page, there is part which is called "Your Profile Picture"... Hit the browse button and go to the right folder where your avatar is located in your computer... Then Open it... After this click Add/Change Your Picture and so on your avatar should be on place...
