I do have it - got it from a friend. It lacks the polish of WoW (not surprising, since it's only been out for a short while) and it looks more generic. However, it does a lot of things right.
The environments are incredibly beautiful and massive. The quests are far more immersive - LOTRO uses personal instances for important storylines, so you actually feel your character is going somewhere. Every two months, they add to this storyline so you're always busy. Of course, you have the normal quests as well. Player Housing is coming (something WoW still doesn't have) and they use something called 'Layers' in the world. It works like this: there's a beautiful village somewhere. In the storyline, it gets destroyed. Next time you visit it, it's a smoldering pile, even though other players might still see the village as it was. This creates a personal timeline, which is also very immersive. So if you care about that kind of stuff, LOTRO is fantastic. Truth be told though, I haven't played nearly enough to give proper gameplay impressions. |
