A few nights ago I logged into a pub server to remind myself how much I hate JA+  . I couldn’t help but to feel a sense of déjà vu as I started a duel with a member of the server’s clan. It was only halfway through the fight that I realized who it was. My opponent was the same member of this clan that motivated me to find the JA. Five months ago, this very person has frustrated me enough that I actually got on Google and started searching for jk3 training. Hehe, imagine that. He didn’t remember me then, but I get the feeling he’ll remember me from now on. But the JA taught me so much more than just how to win; the JA taught me how to lose. Here I learned that the outcome is really trivial, as long as it was fun getting there, and the game can get old at times, but good friends never do. As I entered jk3home and saw the_academy for the first time, I was immediately greeted by Moridin. He stopped with his duels to give to me a tour and introduction to the Academy. It blew my mind to think that someone was going that far out of their way for a noob – a strong contrast to what I was used to in my few weeks of pub play. Moridin offered to help me out whenever I needed him, almost like a JA big brother. We quickly became good friends, and to this day Jessie (his RL name) is one of my best buds here. Moridin: I would like to thank you for everything you’ve done for me. I know that if you hadn’t been so welcoming on that first day, I would have never stayed here. I would have logged off and quickly forgot about the JA. Thank you bud  . Two weeks later came one of the most important events for me at the JA: my padawanship to Obi-wan Kenobi (at that time he was named Wolfwood). Obi had been helping me out over the past week. He was showing me various red techniques and trying to save me from embarrassing myself. He completely surprised me one night when I suddenly found myself teleported to the Padawan Room and he asked if I wanted to be his padawan. Of course I said “Hell No!” and searched frantically for an exit . J/k, I quickly picked my jaw off the floor and typed in “yes” as fast as I could. I had no clue how extensive Obi’s training was going to be. It never seemed to have an end to it, and reaching his level was so distant it seemed impossible. Slowly but surely, he forged me into something else. For awhile our styles were so similar that people felt like they were fighting him when they were fighting me. For the next 4 months we had consistent paddy sessions, and he was always up for a good time, a practical joke, or a hilarious TeamSpeak/Skype conversation. Wolfwood: What can I say man? I just can’t thank you enough. You have such a busy RL with work and school, yet you made time to train my sorry arse! We’ve had a lot of fun too. Now that I’m a Knight, it’s going to be a lot easier to catch ‘Captain Jack Sparrow’ ! Thanks for recording me drunk as a skunk on TS, that will be great blackmail later, hehe! And the impersonations never get old to me. It’s going to be fun as hell working with ya on the JAK+ side of things. Thank you again WW, there is no one in the JA that I am in debt to more. Through the months, I got to meet a lot of other people who have gractiously taken the time to help me. I’d like to thank some of them here: Jaiko D’kana: Kinda like my JA uncle in a way…weird . Jaiko you always made time for me to teach me stuff. Not just saber technique, but mental ones too. Your example in how you act and treat people is golden. There is something very unique about you, and it’s been a privilege getting to know you. The JA is damn lucky to have ya buddy, thank you so much!Virtue: You’re a machine. All the JAC stuff, dealing with all the other students, and yet you STILL somehow found time to help me. You have one of the best styles of teaching I have seen, and what you showed me has accelerated my yellow style out of the stone age into something a little closer to par. When you teach, you give everything you have to that student until the lesson is over, and no sooner! You have also been very kind as to answer my endless questionings in IRC and on your profile. ‘Thank you’ doesn’t really even begin to say it. Leif: Man I’m going to miss you. While others molded parts of my style, you smoothed out the edges. Dueling you was an ongoing epic, and really made me fall in love with this game. But more important was that despite you being so good, you were so humble! It really shocked me to think of how humble and kind you were when you could have had an ego so easily with your skill. Seeing that really shattered whatever was left of the pub/clan mindset in me. Losing to you was a pleasure, and I’ll never forget how great you made people feel - win or lose. If anyone ever asks me what a Knight should be (and now a Trainer ), I will simply reply ‘Leif’. Thanks.Phoenix Sol: My ‘unofficial’ JA brother ! You have been such a great friend Sol, and I owe you a lot. Those hours we spent constantly sparring and working on things really paid off. We have always been very close in ability and our duels really got the blood pumping. Thanks for all your support and being a good mate!Motrec: Since the beginning, you’ve been more than friendly to me, and extremely helpful. I could always count on your opinion to help me out when I was unsure of things. You’re funny as hell and great to hang out with. Anytime I start to get a little off track, you are there to remind me that if it isn’t fun, its not worth having. Thanks bud, and keep them size 12 steel toed boots away from me! Sared: I have 2 words for you (you always do this word # thing): YOU RAWK! Fun as hell to talk to, helpful, and a practical joker…what more could I ask for? Thanks for being basically my JA guardian angel. In my ears you sat in TS/Skype and guided me in your silly Texas accent. Thanks for everything you hippy! Flash: You are the nicest girl I’ve ever met in the JA (/me discos)! You’re a cool cat and its been fun as hell. Thanks for taking all the time teaching me the TFFA stuff and red stance combos. And thank you for helping me teach and just being a great friend. Expect to see me in all your classes causing trouble ! Thanks man. My fingers are wearing out, and RL is calling me, so I’d like to list some others who have been extremely helpful to me. And if I miss your name, please realize I’m just retarded and I appreciate everything you’ve done – write me a comment . Not invisable Carda, not at all. But if I was to include everyone that I am friends with or has been friendly to me, this letter would go on forever. These people I listed have sacrificed time over the course of months to help me. And a lot of the ways they helped me I can't even find ways to describe properly. I have lots of other friends in the JA that I have a good time with and nice duels, such as yourself...and I'd like to thank you for all the fun times.
