Certificates/Awards at the Jedi Academy???

Well i was playing on the servers when i had what I personally think is an intersting idea. So listen up. :D

I have been around the academy for a while now, and while I still find it a ton of fun, sometimes i yearn for something more. Something to achieve by being here. A lot of people join here and set themselves the goal of being a JAK, even though we all know JAK is not a status symbol, but a responsibility and a job. However perhaps some members become dissatified in the knowledge that they will probably never be anything more than a JAS/JAP. They can't exactly just apply to be a JAK :P . However it doesn't necessarily have to be that way.

So heres my idea: What if we had a set of "certificates" to show that a student had achieved a level of skill or knowledge. For example we could have an award to show that a student had mastered the basics of red stance. Or that they had shown they understood CTF tactics. We wouldn't make it compulsary for students to attain these awards. However they would serve to show that by attending classes and practising they had achieved something.

I think this sense of achievement may be just the thing to keep students interested. And to give anyone who wishes to try for them something to aim for, an objective from their time. The other important thing is that by someone achieving an award they don't have to uphold any special responsibilities like a ranked member would. Thay are simply recognised for their achievement. They don't have to be especially trustworthy, popular, or any of those special qualities of a knight. It would be a more open thing to all members.

How would they be assessed? Well i have a few ideas as to how that could be done. But right now I'd rather get some feedback on what YOU the members think of this idea. So vote AND post, please. :)

I know what you mean, but who is going to monitor everyone to see if they have the necessary skills for the certificate?

Besides, if it's a word document, what keeps us from giving it out to each other

"Hey my mate! I'm selling a Red Stance Certificate. All you have to do is get me into your sig!"

Well, it's not exactly a lie. This also gives them confidence so they are more likely to get it right. If you don't do this, they might just lose it and give up. :)

when it is put the way Italian puts it, I think it's a far better idea than eg. a permie on your profile, or something like that

I remember back in the jk2 ending days, that I had a learner trial, I think.
Before I got that trial, I was like: "Oooh, I'm never gonna be JAK, it takes so long :("
then I got the trial, and it really felt I was getting closer, and urged me to push on.

So, some kind of recognition would be cool, because I don't think ANYONE at the Academy is ever gonna say: "Man, you suck at guns!"
They'll most likely say: "I saw you making an improvement" which they know is a lie.
That kind of eliminates the credibility of all congratulations-posts

So to sum up, I like this idea, if it can come up through some cool form!

lol jk

I like the idea, the only thing is i think everyone is takeing it in a really complicated way, that like it would be on your profile or something all teh certif's you have. I THINK (not shure) that he ment its just something you can print out and have a sentemental value. Think of it, a lil paper on your desk or something reminding you off all teh good times of the academy after you retire.

Ty for your opinion Mike. When you look at it that way i kindof agree. But the thing is ppl compliment me all the time, even though i am not very good, so i get confused as to whether they are being sincere or not. :/

Then again the more i look at it, the more i see that this is not an idea that the academy is interested in. Now I'm not even sure it was a good idea anymore. Oh well, i guess the moral of the story is : don't get drunk and play CTF ;)

While I agree that commending students is a fantastic thing, and definately helps, I disagree with this idea.

To me, a certificate basically a compliment, but in a tangible form. Personally, I believe that if people need some kind of certificate, or trophy, or whatever to feel that they've achieved something, to be quite vain. We don't need to make anything official here - in fact, we can start "awarding" students right now. How?

It's simple - compliments, encouragement, pats on the back. Nothing stops people from posting on someone's profile with a comment saying "Hey, you did great at class today", or "Hey, awesome duels today". I don't do this nearly enough, but i'm going to make sure that I do, from now on. You should treasure every compliment you recieve - that, in itself, is better than any certificate. :)

I hope this post helps with this discussion. :D

Well i was not here at the time of the class system so i have no personal experience of it and cannot comment on that. :P

However i wasn't thinking about a points sytem thou, nor a system where each member is ranked as a different class neither. And i don't see why it would necasarily have to be administered by the currently ranked members either. Couldn't we have say 3-5 currently good dual saberists who adjudge whether or not a student is up to scratch?

Look it was just an idea and if noone likes it thats ok. But if you do think there might be some merits could you post how you would do certain parts of it?

I really liked the old ranks, but it made this place the "Trial Academy" - and JAK+ were mere triallers, nothing else. its too time consuming for the ranked ppl, unless we have TONS of ranked guys :D

plus, people just boast around: "hey I got this and this award, and you are a n00b, so stfu and DO as I say.... blabla"

2 words: bad idea.

I just agree with QG

Sorry ozz...i dont think this would be such a good thing.

Take me for example...i know that i wont be a knight and i gave the thought up of actually aiming at beeing a knight, some time ago.
Even when its the goal of many ppl...they really have to understand that we cant have just JAK+ in the academy.
There have to be Students..."the other side"...the ones which enroll into classes and just hang out on the Server.
Just think of a society in which everyone would be a cop.It wouldnt work because there wouldnt be noone to save and protect (they would have to save themselfs from each other after a while...*sigh...humanity)

Well, im a faithfull student and ill do the JAK+´s a favor and stay a faithfull student =)

I think it’s a bad idea since it would require a lot of time to administrate like the old ranking system. Plus I see little value in a certificate showing you can perform a certain move, under controlled conditions most people can train to pull off a move.

The real challenge lies in being able to pull it off as part of an attack or escape in actual combat. What greater achievement is there in knowing yourself that you can call at will a move or attack, be it a simple swing or an insanely hard jump. People didn't join the academy to collect certificates, it was to learn and have fun.
