Perhaps we should stipulate that by "realistic" we mean "believable," i.e. given that we have suspended our disbelief about a few things to accept the premises of the movies, beyond that "realism" is what is then logically consistent with the movies, consistent without requiring us to suspend our disbelief in anything else.

I didn't say I don't like it, I said it's not realistic in the slightest, mister trying pathetically to patronize.

I could write a college thesis on things in this game that are "unrealistic", people being to take multiple swings from a lightsaber being the least of them.

'Realistic' meant that according to the movies, a lightsaber is able to cut a man into 2 pieces or more without extreme effort...

I'm pretty satisfied with the change. Makes duels much more realistic. I mean come one, how can a man take more than 1-2 swings across his body without dying ?

Ok so from my experience, the saber combat system has changed very much...but in a pretty positive way.
Yes ppl can do some very strange 1hit kills now (even 100+hp yellow hits =P) and yes theres still some ghosting going around ..but a lot other issues have been fixed.
And because of that, I want to commend Orion for what he has done.
Yes we all know that its still not perfect and that some other issues came up while cleaning the server .cfgs, but in my opinion...it was worth it.
And as indicated by Orion himself, there will be a MOD update soon so...i hope hes gonna fix the remaining issues.

In any case, thanks a lot for the fixes so far and keep up the good work man.

W00T ORION!!!

Take Care =)

We are working with it, Virtue has tested WP and says its fine, its how basejk should be. As for home and classes we are investigating, it may be a problem that since the box those servers are on run FreeBSD. In which a Linux Compatibility layer has to be run in order for programs compiled under linux to be run on FreeBSD, which may cause some issue. Or it maybe I have to do some minor tweaks, to undo the fixes I was told to do to get the mod to compile under Linux with different tools. I used the tools Raven used to make basejk to make the current version of JAR that is on the servers, but it still has to other fixes, which may need to be taken out.

welcome to my world.

There is a difference between what the ja has and nomal, unmoded servers (yes a few do still exsist)

another thing you should take into consideration - new ppl coming here have probably learned a bit on the ja+ system (which we all hate, moan about it later) so thier impression of damages and ect will be thrown off anyway.

take that into consideration and don't condone them for it. The first thing i ever hear when a ja member comes to my servers "OMG JA+ sucks!"

there is a great resentment here for slider and his work (weither you belive he did work or not) and just about everyone is very vocal about it. While i agree that slider's mod has done irrevicable damage to a game we love, the fact of the matter is there are several HUNDERED servers out there running it, my own included. Adjusting to the odd blocking (wiether odd, because im used to ja+, or odd because im wierd) on the ja servers, doesnt take that much. but i, like many people here, have been playing jka at least for a year, and jk2 beforehand. *assumes old giezer stance* i remember back in the day, nothing stoped red swings, noteven other red swings. wiether that was cause of the newbies that had the game, or whatever, i remember almost no stoping of somethings before mods came out.

bottom line? stuff happens. ask those incharge in a nice and polite why what was changed, and why. chances are they were changed for a reason. dont go "what the heck? CHANGE IT BACK!!" and if things are that bad, they will be fixed.

calmness;)

Well, its one thing to have higher damage settings. But the way they are now, it's unbelievable. It's supposedly basejka, but I just got done playing a few minutes ago, and not once have I done 100/50 damage doing a rollstab with staff on a basejka server. I do believe some tweaking is in order when the new version of the mod is finished. :)

Well, a few nights ago I was on WirePlay (yes, JavaGuy does go on WirePlay sometimes) and fought several duels that seemed to last forever. Most of the hits, whether my hits or my opponent's hits, that looked to me like they landed did no damage at all.

Now I really liked the way it was before we started "cleaning" the servers. I didn't notice any glitches, and I really liked the way it worked. I was kind of under the impression, however, that the JA mod was an "admin-only" mod and didn't change how combat worked. I guess not.

However, if the JA is "THE place for Jedi training" (look at the banner at the top of this page), that kind of suggests that someone getting beaten consistently on the public servers can come here and learn to do better. If combat is different here than it is on other servers, then someone who trains here feels like a fish out of water on the publics. I realize, of course, that there's a significant percentage of the JA community that never goes out on other servers. I go a lot less often than I used to, but I still go.

Actually, Orion re-compiled the Mod with the settings that Raven used. So, it didn nothing to the Sabering system, but it did fix what was last going on with the Servers.

I prefer it like this, maybe not with this much damage, but at least the system is working properly now.

All of the damages have been reset to basejka. Basically, it's as if there wasn't a mod. I'm not to fond of these new settings either; however, they are better for training.

EDIT: Orion has been using some "new" compiling techniques as well. This causes some changes in the sabering system. But he is working on fixing everything one step at a time. :)

I just got done dueling with Vasper, and it was a joke. Not a single one lasted over a half-minute, regardless of who won. Shots that normally would've been parried were punching through and doing lots of damage, and shots that normally would've been regular hits were just flat out killing, or coming close. I don't know what's been changed, since the saberdamagescale is still 1, but there is something that's been tampered with, and I can't say as I'm enjoying it.
