I was thinkin, I know it can be a dangerous thing. What are your thoughts on additional ranks within the JA?
We have:
Student
Padawan
Knight
Trainer
Master
Council

What about sub-ranks? Say someone doesn't qualify to become a Knight or higher but that person is DEADLY with staff. or Single RED. You get the Idea.
Might also help new players see who has what skills on the server if no knights or trainersare available. Could make it easier to pick out spicific people to help him/her on a certain skill.

They could be broken into classes
Stances
Multi-aiming
Sinlge-aiming
movement

Just thought I would throw that Idea out there. It's been on my mind.

Well, that's what it looks like to me, anyway. If it looks like it to me, and Flash, then it might look like it to Vasper too, which is basically my point. :P

Man, the guy was just thinking about how to improve the JA. There's no need to be like that.

But yeah, like Solitude said, the points system was actually tied in with the ranks. Man... that was HELL for the JAK+ who had to do those trials. Thank god things are so simple here. :D

there was also a point system ,where you got points for going to classes etc. people just started doing things to get points ,which is not the purpose of the academy. the system was abandoned pretty quickly. :)

Just to elaborate on this quote, we DID have a multiple rank structure for students, back when the Academy wasn't even a year old. The system was dissolved eventually, due to people sacrificing the "education" that was available in the Academy, instead concentrating on climbing the ranks. The Academy tends to discourage competitive play, and leans more towards learning for fun, and self-improvement. If you want ranks, join a clan. If you want fun, stick around. :)

Bingo. This is the mindset we're really trying to achieve here. I understand where your coming from Vasper and I see the good intentions of your idea, but it's been tried before in the JA and it failed. The last thing we really want the JA to be about is ranks. The JA is a place to duel some great fighters who aren't afraid to share what they know about the game, have a place to play free of abusive admin/lamers/bad attitudes, and a place to make some great friends.

Well, just for clarification, Padawan is not a rank. It's merely a tag that students wear to let other students know they are official padawans. I like to think of it as a "I'm not a JAK+, but this is the closest thing I can have to it" tag. That's how I always thought of mine when I wore it.

Now, as far as subranks go, it does seem like a good idea to start out with. The problem is, people will be trying to so hard to attain them an may not get them, they will be upset. Alot of players consider themselves to be the best. There are tons of students here who are better with a certain saber type than a JAK+ who uses the same one. So, if somebody were to see a student with one of these subranks letting them know that they are a better player, and if that somebody thought otherwise, they would get upset and debate it. See, the current ranks aren't there to tell people that we are the best saberists. People don't become JAK+ because of their skill ingame. It plays a part in it, but that's not the reason. If it were, there would be alot more than we have now.

If we singled out those who we thought were the best saberists and gave them subranks because of it, it would ruin the system, in my opinion. Now, I'm sure that there could be a system of subranks that puts more faith in student teaching abilities. But that's not what the JA is about. It's about having respect and trust for your fellow students. A subranking system would only lower the faith in students who don't have these ranks. Students can learn lots from eachother, more than a JAK+ could ever teach. But if you don't have faith in what another student is trying to show/teach you, it lowers the amount of respect floating around.

Another thing is, authority. Students will come to believe that these subranks will give them authority over other students. This is far too complicated to work with, and will turn the JA into more of a clan than a community.

Anyways, didn't mean to rant. It does sound like a good idea, but it just won't work here at the JA. :)
