Wow. I just read through the tutorial. Didn't know so much work is involved in doing this, and that there's no Mac client version of Gmax.:( Have to get a PC or an Intel Mac soon.

Thank you for this tutorial, Virtue. You could have a career as a technical writer, you know.

Looks to me like it is selecting the whole side, but the camera is just looking at it from the side as opposed to the front.

Suggestion: Try selecting a different side first, then work your way around to the side in the picture you provided.

If i do that its still a single line for that side

Strange, why is planar UVW mapping used instead of Box/Cylindrical (Cap) UVW mapping?

It'll make unwrapping ALOT easier and the skin easier to make I've found.

Updated the main page of the tutorial and included an MD3 exporter (after getting complaints that the previous exporter wasn't at the link provided anymore).

Hope this helps people.

You should be able to catch me around 3 pm tomorrow. I'm GMT -6, so you do the math.

Yeah, that's exactly what I meant. I'll try to catch you on MSN, because it's easier for you. When are you usually on?

I suppose you could use more faces, but it'll also make your hilt more complex. Just experiment some, I'd say, heh.

Oh, by the way, I noticed that some hilts (such as the Katarn) have a handpiece that´s dented. I mean, the handpiece isn´t a perfect cilinder, two sections are cut out and have a grip inside of it. Does anyone know how I can do that myself?

Like this? - See the bottom pic

If so, well, this can be a little complicated at first. It would be alot easier to explain over MSN. But if you don't have the time I can do my best to explain it via the forums.

Ok thanks for the advice.

Any idea on how to make it look more like a circle with the texture?

They are the way they are for a reason. You can make them more round but it is definiately not a good idea to make them a circle.
If I were you I would try to do something with the texture to make it look more like a circle instead making it an actual one.

Ok i have another problem,

For some reason the mesh on some parts like the hand grip bit like shown in the tutorial, when textured some sides look fine and others are at like a slant in a way. Sort of faded out :/

Any help on that?

It just makes it look untidy with some sides look right and others not.

You need to have named the model in Gmax.

See Part 3 of the tutorial, at the very bottom of the page. :)

In your .skin file, you need to make sure the name of the surface being referred to is the same as the surface name of the hilt model.
