In Jake's "Little known moves" thread, we're having a discussion about something we believe many of you may be interested in. Namely, a JA "Knowledge Base", which would document...well, follow the thread and you'll see what we're talking about. Please read and provide input (especially JAC/T/K's). Thank you.

Sorry to keep on posting on this subject but god damnit my interest has been engaged.
The database idea is a good and it seems that this is where it's going at the moment. I do have to say that I like the idea of a text document that people download off the site. People could print it out and have it next to them for reference while they play. Yeah ... I guess I'm one of those print purists

well, that would be nice. Aeth, yes, thats kind of the idea. as stated in another post, We should get a few moderators so that everybody can submit their thoughts/writings whatever w/o busting the whole design/order etc

Here's another idea: Maybe we can interview the council and get a history of the JA. I'm actually curious how all this madness got started.

Also, try to combine all this stuff into one thread with a topic heading that makes sense. Drop the others without losing their data. Having it scattered around is getting ridiculous...

The Academy Holocron... that's kinda cewl. I like that. Let's see if anyone else has any other ideas for names, esp. upper management. I don't want us doing this ourselves...won't take to the JA membership as well. But if we don't get very many more comments on it, we might just have to pick something...guess it could be changed later if people don't like it.
Unless I can get access to a computer out in Las Vegas, this might be my last post till Saturday. So, I'm not going to be able to do what you asked until then. Contact MoS, and you two should be able to work something out. You guys should fiZZ involved if, he's game, as well as others who have expressed interest. Work with MoS. Start wherever you want to. If you want to do little known moves, sure. We'll all contribute and flesh this thing out as it goes along. Ask MoS, but I don't think you should worry about doing things like demos and the like yet. Stick to text descriptions. We'll get to the wizz-bang stuff a little later as it builds. Good luck, Jake, MoS, others. Good idea ruuk, the handbook that fizz sent me also has info on console commands which I hadn't thought of to put in. That'd be useful, as you always get someone asking for name changing, how to taunt, the am emote system.
Dj thats brilliant *kisses* looks like we've got the attention from the top ey boyz Ruuk, if you can sort of setup a layout of the sections and what needs to be included, let me know, I'll modifications if need and start plugging in the info. Praps I should with the little known moves which I've stated as they would be simpler to explain than every single swing (once I start on one normal swing I'm gonna wanna do the whole lot so leave that till a bit later).
Perhaps we should start with basic movement, including rolling, wall walking, possibly strafe jumping although that might be a bit advanced to start with. Then move on to force powers, the benefits and disadvantages of each, the cost of each in force allocation points, the cost of each in your force pool (how many bars of force they take up) whether they are press button, hold button, or a switch. Man I could go on all day explaining it all here, but I won't, I'll save it for the........what are we gonna call it anyway? DJ, one thing I'd like to see is a "Welcome to the Academy" section for new members. The FAQ is very useful, but I think there are some things that could really help new people out if we put it at the "beginning of the handbook," if you will. When new peeps come in, the first thing they'll be directed to check out is the intro chapter to the handbook. This might solve a lot of minor problems and start-up glitches (since I'm still new, I experience them and remember them more vividly than some others probably do).

Damn. Hadn't thought about that, DJ. Putting this up as a searchable database would be perfect! Peeps could easily go to whatever they specifically want to work on, or read thru the whole thing if that's their pleasure. Mmmm...
Maybe we could ask the JA members for their input on topics/section headings/chapter titles/whatever-we'd-call-them. I'll post a new thread asking for this information. I had another idea (why does this always happen to me when I'm cleaning out the cat box? Must be the fumes...) where we could have some volunteers go out and "interview" people on the fly while they're on the server playing. There's always a lot of talk going around, why not copy some of it down? This might be good for some individuals that *know* a lot but don't want to take the time to write it down and post it. And since you're only asking one or two questions at a time, you won't really be bothering people that much. Post it "for" them... "According to x, if you do this during...it helps...bleah." And Jake, I like you're devious style...

It sounds like a whoopass idea and I can make something on the site for it.. If you look at PHP's manual http://www.php.net/manual/en I'd kind of make it where each page discusses a topic and people can leave comments on it. Each topic would have things like difficulty, gametype, topic fields in a database and a name that is of course searchable. Am I missing anything? _______________ My car is made of Nerf. |

Like I said in the other thread I'd love to take this on with you guys. I've got extensive knowledge on pretty much every game type (cept holocron, I mean I can play it but don't know everything, doubt theres anyone that does though )
Anything which will give the trainers more time can't be a bad thing. Obviously this will be no substitute for one to one training as mistakes and misunderstandings can't be corrected immediately. Still think this is a great idea. Even if the council doesn't give us full support I still think we should make it, you never know they might really like it. What we need: 1. A rough idea of what we want and how we want to organize it. This will develop with time and consideration, but for now it seems to be a grouping of brief articles on various topics that anyone can submit and leave comments on. The articles would be arranged by difficulty level like Jake mentioned earlier or by type (ie. Dark side force powers and their use, from selecting the powers right up to grip kicking and speedrage) I'm thinking that trainers would post articles, but students could send their own material to the JATs for evaluation. A place for demos and/or pictures to accompany the articles would be very nice as well. 2. People to assist in writing, testing, making demos, advising, and publishing. This would be an ongoing project with various people keeping it maintained and updated. I don't know what topics we would start with. Last time I checked, the Academy doesn't pay very well, so we'd need some dedicated volunteers. 3. A place to put it and an attractive, easy to navigate layout. Going to be one of the more difficult challenges. We'll have to play this out some more. 4. A cool name. Academy Archives? JA Bible? Skills and Tactics Compendium? Up to you guys, really. So? Any thoughts? Anything to add?
