Just saw ROTS, twice in a row, overall AWESOME though i wont try to pick a fav eppisode,
I will state now that I havnt seen/read any other SW material other than the movies except the book trillogy involving Ca'Baoth (spelling?) so i'm not as informed as some, however i THINK the story was originally intended for the big screen, so it should be the definitive, NO?

couple things i will mention, saving the bigies till last

Humerous moments!! Yoda brushing the royal guard off with a flick off the wrist was amusing, but he's YODA, what else would u expect,
R2 stashing the communicator whilst trying to hide, also amusing, but R2 was ALWAYS a source off comic relief, and it was a little to slapstick for my tastes.
no, for me, the funniest sceen in the whole movie (which no one else in the cinema, in either session, seemed to get, was when Anakin, Dangling by his fingers down the lift shaft of Grievous' command ship is "caught" by a couple off droids, who then say to him "Put your hands up", pissed my self.

CHEESE
Someone (I forget who) posted that they found the presence of chewie to be cheesy.
I had thought this perfectly reasonable,
A Wookies live upwards off 300 years
B There is barely 30 years between eppIII and IV
C There is no mention (that I recall) of chewie's past life in IV,V and VI
D Wookie World (Planet/System name?) would have been pretty ravaged by the war, first droid V Clone, then Clone/StormTrooper V Wookie, and they didnt go down to the Empire (tough hombres), how many Wookies would have gone off world for whatever reasons. Besides, I thought it made a nice emotional link between III and IV
The cheesiest, most cliched sceen in the movie, and the lowest point therein,(IMHO), was when Vader discovers Padame's dead, the whole, Wrench arms from bonds, Stagger roboticly down stairs, (melo)dramatic pose, NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
What was Lucas stuck for inspiration so he looked up his trusty copy of "Over-used and Over-worked,- Cliches for every sceen", The simpsons did it better with homer dropping to his knees and screaming the same thing, and it was meant to be cliched!
sry, probably was'nt that bad, but the rest of the movie was so good that it stuck out like a pizza amd a pack of smokes at a healthy living convention.

R2 and Yoda
Something a good friend off mine pointed out.
-R2's memory was never wiped (that we know off)
-R2 knows Yoda
->When R2 and Yoda meet in swamps of Dagobah is like a reunion of old friends
They were both playing with Luke, the sly dogs :)

JavaGuy, You mentiond history being written by the little things, There is an old nursery rhyme, or ditty or whatever that sums it up pretty well, the kind of thing ur grandma recites to you when ur little
For the want of a nail, a shoe was lost,
for the want of a shoe, a horse was lost,
for the want of a horse, a rider was lost,
for the want of a rider, a message was lost,
for the want of a message, a battle was lost,
for the want of a battle, a war was lost,
for the want of a war, a kingdom was lost.
And all for the want of a horse shoe nail.

well just the 2 biggies to go, think ill just make another post

I don't think so. Anakin is very attuned to the force. He had the same dreams aout his mother and she died as well. He was strongly connected to Padme. Jedi get premanissions(spelling?) all the time. but does not mean they will always come true. "Always in motion the future is." Yoda says. Meaning, to me, that in order for a premanission to become true, all the choices have to be made to lead to that premanission. So if you turn left instead of right, it could make it not happen.

Actually, during the fight with Windu, I thought Palpatine was playing possum. Yes, Windu give him a hell of a run for his money (face withered and all that), but all the whimpering about "I am so weak! I am so weak!" is contrived--all the while he's watching to see what Anakin would do. I think he was ready to blast Windu off the ledge himself but wanted Anakin to attack Windu first, since that was a major part of his plan.

I don't think so at first. I think he was beaten soundly. I can't imagine Sidious letting himself be at the end of such a powerful Masters saber. Honestly I think it was just quick thinking to play Anakin against Mace. And so he turned. Only looking at his problem.

Agreed...The Dark Side tempted him to start down its twisted path, but Anakin alone bears moral responsibility for choosing to take that first step. He probably had no clue how bad it would be or that his fate was sealed, but he certainly knew it was wrong to start down the path to the Dark Side. I do feel for him, but I don't excuse him either.

I felt sorry for him up to a point, you know what I mean? if you watch again he is crying with so much anger and sadness after the killing of the seperetists, All for Padme. He wanted Padme for himself, for her to live forever like some freak, and she said herself she couldn't go down that path. Anikan was a Sith during that whole part, he had countless times to redeem himself but as Obiwan said "only sith deal in absolutes" and well you know the rest :(

True. I did feel sorry for him. Your explanation of a person who uses the force being different to someone who does not is logical and I agree with it. I just could not help feel that Anakin was pretty stupid nevertheless. I know the Jedi try and shield their students from the evils and darknesses of the galaxy until they come to a certain age, which means they would know nothing of the world outside (source: the Jedi Apprentice book series). However, he is a little too trusting and extremely naive. I feel that his own stupidity in who he trusts and what they say led to his own downfall. Being a little street-smart really wouldn't have hurt.

Anyway, your explanation pretty much sums up why he is the way he is, Java.

He was not betrayed by those close to him, but he certainly thought he was. So yes, I felt sorry for him.

Remember too, that there were supernatural forces at work--the Dark Side of the Force is meant to be a metaphor for the evil side of human nature, yes, but within the context of the story it is also a literal reality, twisting his mind. If, for example, Chewbacca became confused, misled and consumed by anger, he could come to his senses and get his emotions under control. That would be possible for Chewbacca because he does not use the Force. For Anakin, the same path leads him to the Dark Side. Yes, he is morally responsible for allowing himself to start down that path, but there were moments when he wished he could turn back, but it was too late. It was too late when he massacred the Sand People. I did feel for him, and I hadn't expected to. This film was moving in a way that I really hadn't expected it to be.

Who felt sorry for anakin? just me? i thought he was just kinda lost and felt betrayed by those close to him (the council not trusting him for example). With the motives he had, to try to save padme and sidious influencing him on the side; i kinda felt sorry about what happened to him. is it only me who thinks this?

Yea, Grievous was cut down a little too easily in my opinion. Then again he was up against a Jedi master, Obi-Wan at that, so it's not too bad that he got owned.

Mace Windu fight - how was that lame? He had sidious down on the ground. What I found weird was that Mace was able to get him down for the count and would've killed him (if not for Anakin), yet Yoda got pretty owned by Sidious. I was under the impression that Yoda > Mace. What's up with that?

In a previous movie didn't Palpatine say something about "as powerful as Master Windu and as wise as Master Yoda"?

Actually, during the fight with Windu, I thought Palpatine was playing possum. Yes, Windu give him a hell of a run for his money (face withered and all that), but all the whimpering about "I am so weak! I am so weak!" is contrived--all the while he's watching to see what Anakin would do. I think he was ready to blast Windu off the ledge himself but wanted Anakin to attack Windu first, since that was a major part of his plan.

Also, on the general subject of who can beat whom in what fight--just because one fighter is better than another, even a lot better, doesn't mean he'll beat him every time. History is governed by little accidents of fate...a speck of dust in a courtier's eye, a warrior taking a bad step, little things. There's no absolute answer to the question of who would win a fight between Sidious and Yoda. There is only the fact that Yoda was unable to kill Sidious in that particular fight and had to flee. If Yoda had had a better day, perhaps the Republic would have survived.

I did like the film, I was glued to the screen. I think I will love it when I see it again, hopefully today or tomorrow. It moves at such a pace I couldn't keep up.

First Scene blew me away, great story could have been a three hour film easily

Jedis did die a bit easily. I was so sad at that point at the betrayal.

It was brilliant how The clone wars cartoon helped lead almost seamlessly into the film.

Quote:
I thought the Grevious fight was so lame. If you saw the clone war cartoons which lead up to EP3, he was nothing like he was in the cartoon. Grevious took down 5 jedis like it was nothing in the cartoon, yet Obi-wan beat him like he was nothing. I thought the fight would have been alot better.

Yep, Grevious was immense in the cartoon but Mace had weakened him as he flew from Coruscant hence the weezing

Quote:
as a star wars movie, it was really good. no way is it the best of them. why? because the dialogue was craptastic and the scenes where anikin becomes a sith (just after killing mace) and where he chokes padme are so absurd in their pacing and timing and dialogue that a 7th grader could write something that makes more sense. "oh crap i killed mace, what have i done? *wait two beats* make me a sith!"

then on Mustafar (the lava planet):

padme: "omg anikin, obi wan says you r teh suXX0r, baby jedi killa"
anikin: "um...LOL WTF?!?!"
padme: "OMG you ARE teh sux!!! i dunno u, stfu tk'ing bastid!"

I agree that the transitions were too fast. I hope it won't seem that way second time around.

And Chewie no no no no no so wrong and unnecessary
I think the Emperor could have defeated Windu but he needed to lure Ani over and maybe thats why he allowed himself to be disfigured as though Mace WAS killing him and he was weak

Oh and Finally I didn't think Ani died he was just barely alive when Palpatine found him.

So much to talk about so little time :D

I don't think Sidious actually used that particular weakness against Anakin, but didn't he encourage him to kill Dooku, even as Anakin said that he shouldn't? There really was no mind trick/manipulation, just a little push in the right (ha) direction. I guess that added to the overall effect of anakin turning..

3th,

Anikan had been falling down the dark path ever since he joined at age 9, Yoda said when he first saw him "fear I sense in you", and fear of losing padme made anikan attack mace. Palpatine made anikan think he needed him to teach him how to save padme, so anikan couldn't lose his only chance of saving padme. also in the very end of the movie the first thing Darth Vader say's when his new suit is on, is --"is padme ok? where's padme?", palpatine has to again trick Anikan. (you saw his grin).

and the part about the dialogue, I loved it, and I think it's amazing, it's done just like an old style film- wich George Lucas did on purpose.

Something that could have been better was Anakin's transition to the Dark Side. Yoda impresses on Luke that the Dark Side is seductive, flows easily, that once he starts down its path it will dominate him forever. I'd have liked to see Anakin's transition be more like the transition of an addict who starts out using just a little because he thinks he can handle it--and of course, with his arrogance, he'd think that he can. I like that Palpatine used his fear of losing Padme against him, but it would have made more sense to me if he'd used that weakness to get him to use the Dark Side just a tiny little bit near the beginning of the film, ultimately being completely consumed by it at the end. That would have played better than this business of his turning very abruptly to the Dark Side because he wants to save Padme. I still loved it.

well if u think about it...he did destroy the sith. He threw the emperor down an elevator shaft (or whatever it was)

You are absolutly correct, he did fulfill the prophecy and bring balance back but he did it 20 years too freaking late. He shoulda let Mace whack him!! LOL

... ehh then it wouldn't have been a good story... good can't win all the time...

I hated Anakin after epII, he was such a little whiney baby character. After seeing epIII and how Lucas made Anikin transition into a more mature character I now see the necessity for the whiney baby character. Lucas did a great job.

I admire Anakins character after seeing epIII, he was very mature and had grown patience over the years.. "this time lets take him together"- Obi-wan...... I was just about to say the same thing"-ani EPIII. Rather than "I'll take him NOW!"- Ani ep II.

Anikin's path to the dark side came about because he was clearly lied to and manipulated by Palpy ....talk about getting mixed in with the wrong crowd, this takes the cake. A freaking SIth Lord! LOL

Anyone realize after they seen the movie, how you were hanging on every word from every character? I was glued to to dialog more than any movie ever. In witnessing EPIII unfold almost seemed surreal. I want Lucas to make more SW movies!!!!

Anyway, I loved EPIII. Lates
