Current status posted by Ruuk on 17 March:
"NAME OF THE PROJECT:

Since we have not (yet) come up with an official name, I'd like to just use the term Project - with a capital P. Easy to type, and doesn't offend anyone's ideas of what it should be called (yet). We will figure out what it's going to be called a little later, and will put out a separate posting with example names asking for either a vote or suggestion of other names. I'm not going to tell you what we've thought of right now, b/c I don't want this thread to start going into who likes what. We'll get into that later peeps!

INTERESTED PARTIES:

Those of you who are interested in actively helping out, contact MoS directly thru e-mail, and he can get you up to date with where we're at, how things are starting to get structured, etc. underhill...suggestion... see if you can selectively compress all the e-mails and IM's that we've been throwing back and forth, and see if you can put together a "package" that has most of the current thoughts on group structure, process, etc. If we do this, it would make it a lot easier to explain to new people coming on board. They can instantly get a feel of how things are going and how it's structured without us having to go through the whole discussion again with them. (e.g., you're talk with Bubu, MoS. Don't have peeps misunderstand what we're doing, or need to contact me directly to ask very general questions.)

MoS, I prolly don't need to ask you this, but please send me the names and e-mail addresses of everybody that contacts you so I can add them to my cc: list.

FORUM:

I am going to ask DJ if he'll allow us to have our own forum on the JA Forums Page. We can have separate threads in there corresponding to the different parts of the Project. Aeth, you haven't told me yet if you think this is acceptable.

MEETING:

MoS, if you want me to organize a meeting, that's fine. Does everyone have access to hotmail? The current core group has been discussing things on hotmail IM and e-mail. I have a GIS project due this week, so I'm not going to be able to much during the evenings (-5... USA EST). Perhaps we can do something the weekend? Maybe around 12 noon EST? Let me know.

OFFICIAL/UNOFFICIAL PARTS OF THE PROJECT:

Just to fill some of you guys in right here so you aren't confused. This Project will be part of the JA website, but prolly on a separate server (which we'll deal with later...don't worry DJ). The Project may be similar to the Microsoft Knowledge Base. You type in a query on what you want to learn about, and the database will pop up the corresponding info.

Aeth has suggested we break the Project into two parts. One would be the "Official" JA section, that would have sections written by seasoned individuals, edited, checked and critiqued by experts at JA, and then uploaded. The "Unofficial" part will be where any member of the JA can contribute their ideas of certain aspects of the game/JA. It will be moderated by some of the Project members, and edited for content. I personally think this section would be an excellent area from which Project members could then select and draw ideas and update/revise the Official section. Each contributer's idea, if used in the Official part, could be footnoted with their name as a way of saying thanks.

PERSONALS:

Aeth - Have you taken a look at the old handbook (recently edited by underhill)? This thing should help provide us with the initial Project structure, and hence, doling out work to people. Check it out and let me know what you think needs to be added/modified.

Jake - Glad to see that you're continuing to work on the Force section. Keep it up. And yes, make sure you send it to underhill first for editing before the rest of us take a look at it. After that, it will get sent up the chain to some of the JA Force experts for review. Aeth is right, tho. We don't need to worry about the website stuff yet. btw...I have your e-mail punched in, so you should be getting the cc: messages now.

fiZZ - Short guide...oh, ok, I think I understand. Let me know what you think, but I'm not sure this is necessary. When the Project is finally uploaded, people could just cut and paste Project text into Word and make their own personal printout guide on whatever certain parts they want to work on.

Haemon - Let MoS send you the old handbook structure (as long Aeth thinks this preliminary structure is ok), and pick and choose what you'd be interested in expanding on. MoS, please keep a list of who is writing on what, and forward to me when you get a chance. Haemon, once underhill gets that edited Project pamphlet together, you'll see the Project Group structure, and where you need to send your write ups (well, to underhill for editing).

FINAL THOUGHTS:

Looks like we're starting to get some people interested in this Project. I - we - appreciate you're willingness to help. The ideas for this thing are grand indeed, but as Aeth said in a previous e-mail, we gotta start small. But wait till you see what it looks like when we get finished...w00t!

Anybody have any questions, let me know at gisjedi@hotmail.com.

Ok folks, here's the rough agenda for the meeting. No need to start posting answers to some of these questions right now...we'll hash them out together.

However: if anyone (Aeth?) feels that there are some things missing from this agenda, please feel free to mention it here. I'll include it and hopefully we'll be able to get through all this stuff before everyone falls asleep. :)

AGENDA FOR JA PROJECT MEETING:

1. Project Structure (internal)
- Official vs Unofficial? ("professionally" written and edited vs. JA member postings/submissions)

2. Project Group Structure
Head - Ruuk
Public Relations - MoS
Primary Editor - underhill
Primary Writer - Jake
Primary Advisor - Aeth
Section moderators - ? (will explain later)
Writers / Reporters - B-Billy, Bubu...etc.
Webmaster(s) - ?

3. Best method of Group communication
- separate forum on JA Forum page?

4. Release
- keep together and release as one, or in parts? pros/cons of each

5. Project Presentation
- Microsoft Knowledge base-style, or common web-hyperlink style? (Perhaps one for official, other for unofficial?)

6. Project Location
- Separate server, but linked under JA left-hand frame?

7. Section Leaders/Moderators
- Discuss method with which unofficial submissions could be viewed, collected, edited, categorized, uploaded to server.

Any questions, you know how to find me: gisjedi@hotmail.com.

Aeth suggests we should publish the Official section all at once. Revisions can then be made every so often as we get better ideas or ways to describe something, people find mistakes, etc. This is a question we can talk about at the meeting.

Aeth: regarding Project structure...I think it would be helpful for each of us to print out a hard copy of underhill's most recent outline. At the meeting, we can discuss it and flush it out more. I do not know about Chicka's handbook. MoS, underhill...do you know what he's talking about? About Luke's possible RPG archive: we could always provide a link to it.

I'm thinking we might be able to punch this out in, what, maybe 2 months? This isn't school, and there are no deadlines (yet), but I don't want the thing to go on so long that people start to lose interest. Let's throw that out there as a general timeframe and it can get modified by what we discuss this weekend at the meeting, or what we see as things progress down the road.

MoS will be contacting you either by e-mail or on the forum to let you know the time for the meeting this weekend.

Jake: MoS told me he had a chance to see your Force section (so far) and said it rocks. Keep up the good work.

Everyone: we will be putting out an agenda for the meeting sometime in the near future, so make sure to look for it. Make sure you think before-hand about some questions to discuss.

Thank you. That is all. :D

Bubu- The way things are going, I'm figuring we'll be able to have *some*, *some* stuff ready for final editing by the JA experts within... 2 weeks? I'm not sure if we're just going to hold on to it until the whole Official part if done, or upload it piece and parcel. I'm waiting on Aeth's comments RE: this one.

EVERYONE:

We'll have a meeting on IRC. Only been there once, but MoS reminded me about the service. We have it, let's use it...

1. There will be an agenda.
2. We will follow the agenda.
3. Please come to the meeting with questions and concerns.
4. To minimize time, also please come with a serious frame of mind. (Relatively serious...this *is* a game, first of all...) I want to reduce jabbering and joking that usually goes on in these types of channels...keep it focused on what we're trying to do, and the meeting will be easier and go by much quicker. K? K. Thanx. :D

Everyone get back to MoS by e-mail with you're available meeting times so we can figure this out. (MoS...keep a running list and update me with the most common time available.)

FORUM:

I have contacted DJ and requested a separate, non-private forum/thread area on the JA Forum page. As long as he's ok with this, we should find it will help facilitate communication among those dealing with separate sections within the JA Project. Unique threads will be constructed by underhill (hear that? :) ) to correspond to general sections. (und...take the table of contents from the old handbook and post 'em up there. Should have, what, 10 threads right now?) Peeps, please post your *related* concerns, questions within those separate threads. underhill will create a separate Miscellaneous one for general Project questions, such as "What time is the meeting?" etc.

Questions?

Not everyone has the manual or can't be bothered to read it. Its a sad fact that some people do download this game, and whilst not personally approving of it, I can see the reasons for it, just like mp3.

Mate have you read the manual ? Its all about singleplayer, the official strategy guide is the same, just more in depth single player. The force powers and stuff are all described in a single player point of use.

The only good official description I've seen of force pwoers would be the ingame thing (if you go to rules, then force powers it lists all the stuff, this is partly what I'm getting my info from then expanding on it, as quite frankly the people that made this game don't know half as much about it as the players :P)

If we get the basis of the main thing done first then we can 'skim' the basics from those and let that out as a sort of 'wet yah appetite' kinda thing to get people interested on what the main thing will encorporate.

Whilst I'm posting might as well update. I've done a bit on basic force information, rundown all the neutral and lightstance powers. Should finish darkside tomorrow then do a bit on force combos, and possibly force tactics if theres time.
