I think the serious questions are scaring people away... But, I don't think Americans will begin any serious efforts to fight global warming until it's either so much of a problem that they're pretty much forced to, or until they give in to the peer pressure of other large nations starting their own anti-global warming efforts. IMO, Bush is avoiding the topic. He doesn't want to "destroy the economy"? That's funny, it seemed like that was the goal of his first four years in office. Anyways, if you're on break right now, when do you go back? |

The endoplasmic reticulum plays a role in both the transport of large molecules in the cytoplasm and protein synthesis. The ER is divided into two different parts: The rough and the smooth ER. The two, together, make up over half of a cell membrane and extend through the cytoplasm to the nuclear membrane. The rough ER is the larger part of the two. It is a network of flattened interconnected sacs called cisternae, which are formed by membranes within the cell. The rough ER is covered by minute dense particles, the ribosomes, the sites of protein synthesis, on the outside of the membranes. The rough ER forms a branched reticulum that expands as the cell becomes more active in protein synthesis. Sometimes the reticulum branches out and other times, the cisternae dilate and form large sacs that fill the cell. Then the protein enters the lumen (space within the rough ER) for processing, and the newly synthesized proteins are sequestered in the cisternae, and then sent to the Golgi complex by means of the vesicles, or, in the case of membrane proteins, are inserted into the cell membrane. The Smooth endoplasmic reticulum is found in a variety of cell types and it serves different functions in each. It consists of tubules and vesicles that branch forming a network. In some cells there are dilated areas like the sacs of rough endoplasmic reticulum. The network of smooth endoplasmic reticulum allows increased surface area for the action or storage of key enzymes and the products of these enzymes. In the case of smooth endoplasmic reticulum in muscle cells, the vesicles and tubules serve as a store of calcium which is released as one step in the contraction process. Calcium pumps serve to move the calcium.  lol! Hmmm...ill ask a 'Simpler question' Global warming....will the Americans ever do anything about it, I.e cut down their emissions?
