WoW is entertainment. People who play it typically invest 40+ hours per months playing it. Yes, you pay for it, just like you pay for many forms of entertainment like movies or whatever. Throwing money away? Maybe. Do you pay for cable or satellite TV? How much per month? I bet it's more than $15. I doubt if many serious WoW players get nearly as much enjoyment out of TV. Go to bars/clubs? A number of players have told me that WoW is what they do instead of going out, and it's a lot cheaper (one forum thread posed the question of how WoW affected players' marriages--lots of guys said their wives love WoW because it keeps them home every night). Start keeping track of how much money you spend on soft drinks per month.
