Well, this game comes out at the end of the month so i thought i would start a thread for it to see who else is interested in it. :)

For those that do not know, the Elder Scrolls games began back in 1994, and are the creation of Bethseda Softworks. They are Action/RPG's, set in a fictional world of Tamriel, and each game is unique in story, and location, sharing only small things in common plot wise, although they all add to the history of the games.

I had not heard of them, until 2002 when they released Elder Scrolls III:Morrowind for the PC, the game was enormous, and gave huge amounts of choice in what the player did, right from the character creation onwards. Needless to say i was impressed. Anyway the game spawned two expansions, and has become hugely popular online among modders, partly due to its unique construction kit released with the game. It has also since been released on the X-Box.

The New game is designed for the Next-Gen consoles (360 etc.) and of course is also coming out for the PC, for which the specs are:

Recommended
3 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
1 GB System RAM
ATI X800 series, NVIDIA GeForce 6800 series, or higher video card

Minimum System Requirements
Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows XP 64-bit
512MB System RAM
2 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
128MB Direct3D compatible video card
and DirectX 9.0 compatible driver;
8x DVD-ROM drive
4.6 GB free hard disk space
DirectX 9.0c (included)
DirectX 8.1 compatible sound card
Keyboard, Mouse

**Notes on requirements**
-There is currently no option to disable pixel-shading in the game, so if your graphics card has trouble with this you might have some problems. [Thanks to Masta for this]

The game is even bigger than Morrowind, literally huge in size and scope, and still contains all the customisation of the previous game (a lot more in fact), and its free roaming nature. The graphics are amazing. Also the Dev team have made the NPC's a lot smarter, using a new Radient AI program, which the producer refered to as a combination of Ultima 7 and The Sims, this results in some nice moments.

Unlock Print Screen (PRTSCN) button
There is a setting in the INI file:
bAllowScreenShot=0
change to:
bAllowScreenShot=1

There are two INIs, one in the game folder called "Oblivion_default.ini", this is the one it uses to generate the REAL one....
My Documents\My Games\Oblivion\Oblivion.ini

Edit the first one if you want to default to having screenshots on by default for all users. The settings it uses at runtime are the ones from My Documents folder.
After you mod the INI file, you can press PRTSCN button and Oblivion will write a BMP file to your game folder.
-To bring up the console press the tilde key (above tab)
-Typing TM into the console toggles hiding of all menus (for taking screenshots)

Available Factions/Guilds:
-Mages Guild [returning]
-Fighters Guild [returning]
-Theives Guild [returning]
-Dark Brotherhood [New](more 'evil' than the honourable Morag tong, shame i liked the MT)
-The Blades are back, again as part of the story [returning]

-The Arena [new] (lets you fight a variety of NPCs. Even after you have "completed" the Guild there will probably still be fights waiting for you at the Guild. You will also be able to bet on the fights that take place in the Arena.)

There are other factions although no others seem playable, they include the Imperial Legion, the Nine Divines (a temple group), The Mythic Dawn (Daedra worshippers), the Warf Rats (think Cammona Tong but smaller perhaps), and the Necromancers.

Updated
-There are other factions out there you can join, i don't actually know how many, but i recently joined one that was not one of the originals stated. These hidden factions are probably smaller overal than the Mages/Fighters etc. though.

Misc info
-Werewolves will not be returning initially although you cannot rule out another expansion.

-Vampires however are back, and with a new biting animation ;)

-Spears, throwing weapons (e.g stars), and crossbows have been removed.

-Each of the 9 major cities has a house you can buy and have for your own. You can go around in town and buy different things to decorate your house with, so you have places to put all the stuff you collect. One of the houses that you can purchase is initially haunted.

-go Here to find basic info on the skills in ES:O

For the other thing, i had been keeping reasonably worthwhile items that i didn't need for my character (blunt weapons, potions and other weapons i didn't currently need, armor) in a chest at Cloud Ruler Temple. I went back there recently to find they had all been removed with no trace of where they had gone, how irritating.
Ouch. So much for trusting the Blades eh? At least the DB guys dont steal all my loot when i leave it in their sanctuary. Also, you get a black, invincible and rather aggressive horse once you progress through the DB missions. Its always fighting back when attacked too.

Im not sure if its just me, but i think that acrobatics is one of the most useful skills you can have, especially with a stealth-build. I deeply regret not setting acrobatics as one of my main skills, mainly because it alters the height/length of your jumps.
And yea, with master in acrobatics, you can jump off the surface of water if you time it right.

DB do sound cool, but i'm going to leave it until i have at least finished Mages and Theives guilds. Interesting what you say about acrobatics, perhaps i havn't made such a big blunder after all, my jumping has always seemed excessive heh.

Saz: I am currently using Chain Mail and a magic Kvatch Cuirass and shield as armor, its not brilliant but its better than the other light armors i have found so far, really hoping to bump into some Mythril or Elven soon though, and to be honest i tend to wear my clothing as often as possible as it just looks so much more err theif like :P then again i am a wood elf, its my duty to nick things!

It is true, you just need to time the jumps, it is in the manual. With my water walking shoes i just need to run directly downwards and i eventually fall in the water, or i can take them off, they are handy.

Edit: but yeah acrobatics is nothing special lol, oh and yeah i like the style of the blades in this game, katana's look good, Cloud Ruler Temple is cool, and the armor dosn't look bad, shame its heavy.

im still to find these things:
advantage of being master of acrobatics.
glass armor! hey i could hardly find elven armor cuirrass (splng) :(

Acrobatics, i was lured by the promise of walking on water and dodge

errrm dodge isnt that cool... in fact it doesnt always work (atleast with bow). ofcourse backfliping ownz against power attacks (like wolf leaps etc).
as for water walking... i dont know... but im 90% sure its untrue :P
why? whats the point of water walking spells then? and the most obvious reason being - what if i want to go underwater ? hah busted :P
so anywayz acrobatics is nothing special really... except it is one of the things you can use when your normal/usual aproach doesnt work.

whoa masta i bet you visited all teh caves 150k wtf! :P i only got like 10k :)

at the moment im doing mages guild quests and im already got rank of the warlock (i think) :)
or maybe wizard... bah cant remember :D

Interesting posts, its almost as fun reading about other characters as it is playing your own!

Well there are a couple of amusingly irrtating things that have happened to my character recently. First of all i was riding to Cheydinhal, and a wolf attacked, so i lept off my painted horse to kill it. However it attacked the horse before i killed it and made it run off, cue benny hill moment with me wolf and horse :P horse got away so i don't have one at the moment.

Haha i'm way off you Masta financially, i have just under 3k at the moment :D

Its odd i seem to be the only person who is finding it hard not to focus on the story missions, i keep getting sucked into them, the quest i am currently on seems to have a side effect where you get randomly attacked by Mythic Dawn agents in town, which is a pain. Oh and one thing to note, a small bug of sorts in the game is that some story missions are partly tailored so you have NPC support against your foes, while the enemies get tougher as you progress in levels, your NPC buddies do not, so these missions could be very tough.

Just to cap off this long post: Quote:
and LOL! alex u bloody thief!

Haha is it that obvious :P At the moment i really don't feel like joining the dark brotherhood, its a theives life for me, no unnecessary casualties. My actual skills are Alteration, Marksman, Sneak, Restoration, Light armor, Blade, and the one i regret choosing as a primary: Acrobatics, i was lured by the promise of walking on water and dodge, but i have water walking constant effect shoes anyway, would of been better off with almost anything else as far as i can tell.

Phew!

I havnt had much chance to play the game I'm just gonna fiddle with that screenshot thing so I can show you all my char, hes an imperial battlemage, jack of all things that cause pain, blade, blunt, destruction and a bit of conjuring on the side. I have blade armor atm ( remind me of rohan rohhirim) and a chestnut horse. I'm also using a two handed battle axe of embers, spiked mace and war hammer. Great game, eats into your time but what can you do? Stay tuned for pics soon! :D

I agree that it was rather hard to finish all the DB quests with their bonuses. It took me a few tries before i finally managed to finish them accordingly etc. However, taking off your boots and using a 25% chameleon ring DOES make things a bit easier.

Oh and, i didnt follow the main quest as that much. Im practically still at the beginning of it and am rather busy finishing all the faction quests atm. I came across all of my equip whilst doing the faction quests and looting every cave/fort on the way. I guess that would kinda explain how ive managed to get 150k gold together.
...almost as much as in GW now =D

I'm working through the dark brotherhood quests now, just done the dinner party one. It certainly is a lot harder to get the bonuses with heavy armour, (my redguard is pretty much your standard tank build), but I've spent a lot of time working on my marksman, sneak, light armor skills so that he can be more versatile, and I've been able to get all bonuses so far.

I've spent a lot of time doing smaller quests before I really get stuck into the guilds and the main story, building up skills etc, so that when I do, I will have a character who is much more adaptable to different missions and situations.
