Well, this game comes out at the end of the month so i thought i would start a thread for it to see who else is interested in it. :)

For those that do not know, the Elder Scrolls games began back in 1994, and are the creation of Bethseda Softworks. They are Action/RPG's, set in a fictional world of Tamriel, and each game is unique in story, and location, sharing only small things in common plot wise, although they all add to the history of the games.

I had not heard of them, until 2002 when they released Elder Scrolls III:Morrowind for the PC, the game was enormous, and gave huge amounts of choice in what the player did, right from the character creation onwards. Needless to say i was impressed. Anyway the game spawned two expansions, and has become hugely popular online among modders, partly due to its unique construction kit released with the game. It has also since been released on the X-Box.

The New game is designed for the Next-Gen consoles (360 etc.) and of course is also coming out for the PC, for which the specs are:

Recommended
3 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
1 GB System RAM
ATI X800 series, NVIDIA GeForce 6800 series, or higher video card

Minimum System Requirements
Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows XP 64-bit
512MB System RAM
2 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
128MB Direct3D compatible video card
and DirectX 9.0 compatible driver;
8x DVD-ROM drive
4.6 GB free hard disk space
DirectX 9.0c (included)
DirectX 8.1 compatible sound card
Keyboard, Mouse

**Notes on requirements**
-There is currently no option to disable pixel-shading in the game, so if your graphics card has trouble with this you might have some problems. [Thanks to Masta for this]

The game is even bigger than Morrowind, literally huge in size and scope, and still contains all the customisation of the previous game (a lot more in fact), and its free roaming nature. The graphics are amazing. Also the Dev team have made the NPC's a lot smarter, using a new Radient AI program, which the producer refered to as a combination of Ultima 7 and The Sims, this results in some nice moments.

Unlock Print Screen (PRTSCN) button
There is a setting in the INI file:
bAllowScreenShot=0
change to:
bAllowScreenShot=1

There are two INIs, one in the game folder called "Oblivion_default.ini", this is the one it uses to generate the REAL one....
My Documents\My Games\Oblivion\Oblivion.ini

Edit the first one if you want to default to having screenshots on by default for all users. The settings it uses at runtime are the ones from My Documents folder.
After you mod the INI file, you can press PRTSCN button and Oblivion will write a BMP file to your game folder.
-To bring up the console press the tilde key (above tab)
-Typing TM into the console toggles hiding of all menus (for taking screenshots)

Available Factions/Guilds:
-Mages Guild [returning]
-Fighters Guild [returning]
-Theives Guild [returning]
-Dark Brotherhood [New](more 'evil' than the honourable Morag tong, shame i liked the MT)
-The Blades are back, again as part of the story [returning]

-The Arena [new] (lets you fight a variety of NPCs. Even after you have "completed" the Guild there will probably still be fights waiting for you at the Guild. You will also be able to bet on the fights that take place in the Arena.)

There are other factions although no others seem playable, they include the Imperial Legion, the Nine Divines (a temple group), The Mythic Dawn (Daedra worshippers), the Warf Rats (think Cammona Tong but smaller perhaps), and the Necromancers.

Updated
-There are other factions out there you can join, i don't actually know how many, but i recently joined one that was not one of the originals stated. These hidden factions are probably smaller overal than the Mages/Fighters etc. though.

Misc info
-Werewolves will not be returning initially although you cannot rule out another expansion.

-Vampires however are back, and with a new biting animation ;)

-Spears, throwing weapons (e.g stars), and crossbows have been removed.

-Each of the 9 major cities has a house you can buy and have for your own. You can go around in town and buy different things to decorate your house with, so you have places to put all the stuff you collect. One of the houses that you can purchase is initially haunted.

-go Here to find basic info on the skills in ES:O

Aye you can recognise them by the crown symbol that appears when you highlight them, rather than the usual speaking icon.

Oh a note about enchanted items, in case you don't know they do seem to recharge when you sleep, or something similar, a sword of mine recharged slightly at one point anyway.

*Small Spoilers*
I finished the Mythic dawn inflitration bit yesterday, i had read a bit about it before and to be honest it disapointed slightly, it was quite cinematic, but when it came to it i basically had to kill my way out, i have good sneak but they were blocking doorways etc. There was seeminly no way to 'Indiana Jones' my way out as i had read.

People should post what races they are playing and what their focus is, i'm guessing Saz is a Khajiit :P As i have already posted i am a wood elf, jack of all trades, focusing on marksman, blade and alteration really.

These practice rooms with wooden dummies or w/e are just for show. There are a lot of houses everywhere that dont have any specific purpose except making the whole area just a bit more "alive".

those faded wraiths are so annoying.
first of all they cast a spell which lowers ur max weight so even with light armor im forced to stand like a stone. not only that my health is lowered. now they only have to throw a few frost bolts and/or
hit me with a sword :(
anywayz i actually managed to kill them all, but that was just lame... i lured them out of that place (well yeah they were in house in middle of town :P ) and let the guards take care of them.
well couple of them died, but the sad thing is that two villagers died too ,because of they are stupid enough to rush 100 times stronger monsters.
i really hope that wont ruin future quests...

hmmm do you guys know anything about deaths of quest givers etc? lets say i see guards chasing some guy... it's totaly not my fault that the guy dies... and what if he is supposed to give a quest in future?!
that gives me creeps lol... i could frenzy everyone in to killing each other - yay no more quests!

and something more to discuss... the world is full of 'training areas', 'practise rooms' etc. but all those things just doesnt work. that sounds pretty dumb when you see big houses taking city's space and then they are worthless. any thoughts about that?

And erm, where i can find those vampire slayers? I would gladly help them eradicate all the lesser, unworthy vampires from cyrodiil...if they accept me of course >_>

Well as Saz said there is a Dunmer women who will ask you to help her husband in the temple district, follow that quest and you will meet them, after doing a few things, you replace the head of the guild with someone else, and are accepted in. So far i have only had one quest to kill vampires, but you get gold for every lump of vamp dust you bring back.

I actually caught the vamp disease, whatever its called, and cured it, i'm no monster :P As a Bosmer its hard for me to catch it anyway 75% starting resists to disease..

Oh two things i found recently:
1) If you are interested in funny tie ins with the story from Elder Scrolls stuff, check out a book called 'The Refugees' i found one in first edition, gives some insight into the leader of the Mythic Dawn cult but no reward other than thatm i just found it cool.

2) I don't know who else has discovered this, but if you want to see something neat, well just rent a room on the Bloated Barge in Imperial City, and have a snooze. ;)

Getting more into it now, i'm slowly passing the 'no money, combat really hard' stage, which i usually get with these games lol.

btw anyone has an idea how can i kill lets say... 5-10 faded wraiths(ghosts) which are like in one spot throwing drain endurance, strength etc and lots of frost bolts. and yes... i tried mass silence staff on them, but their spells are 'racial abilities and powers' so liek duh...
Yea they like to do that. When i encountered those, i got tired of waiting for the spell to wear off and used my "staff of fire" which i picked up from a dead lich =D
However, a magix bow should work too i guess...

Also, eradicating the vamp-hunters guild itself would be the next step in my grand scheme =x
Ill use them in order to hunt down all the lesser vampires first though <3

Was a nice feature in morrowind.

ye this feature was very nice.
i wonder why they removed it... it seemed pretty logical to me...

i also wonder why they removed passive recharge of enchanted items :(

The best answer i have for why they have removed the ability to wear clothes beneath armor, would be that they felt constant effect items are too easy to come by in Oblvion, and you could quite quickly create someone with almost a full set of clothing, jewlery, and armor with constant effect enchantments. Just a guess though.

Also, i dont like how you cant jump whilst sliding down slopes. Makes hiking a pain lol

I'm sure i have been able to jump while going down slopes, i have not noticed this anyway, and i don't even have a horse since my last one ran away :P

Level Ten now, oh and i need to update the factions bit of my post, seems you can get more than they said, i have just joined **possibly spoiler** The Order of the Virtuous Blood, a group of Vampire slayers****

Oh and one last thing, is every melee fight a struggle for me because i only have blade skill of around 40 and light armor, or am i just not very good at the new system? I think its a bit of both.
