Well, this game comes out at the end of the month so i thought i would start a thread for it to see who else is interested in it. :)

For those that do not know, the Elder Scrolls games began back in 1994, and are the creation of Bethseda Softworks. They are Action/RPG's, set in a fictional world of Tamriel, and each game is unique in story, and location, sharing only small things in common plot wise, although they all add to the history of the games.

I had not heard of them, until 2002 when they released Elder Scrolls III:Morrowind for the PC, the game was enormous, and gave huge amounts of choice in what the player did, right from the character creation onwards. Needless to say i was impressed. Anyway the game spawned two expansions, and has become hugely popular online among modders, partly due to its unique construction kit released with the game. It has also since been released on the X-Box.

The New game is designed for the Next-Gen consoles (360 etc.) and of course is also coming out for the PC, for which the specs are:

Recommended
3 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
1 GB System RAM
ATI X800 series, NVIDIA GeForce 6800 series, or higher video card

Minimum System Requirements
Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows XP 64-bit
512MB System RAM
2 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
128MB Direct3D compatible video card
and DirectX 9.0 compatible driver;
8x DVD-ROM drive
4.6 GB free hard disk space
DirectX 9.0c (included)
DirectX 8.1 compatible sound card
Keyboard, Mouse

**Notes on requirements**
-There is currently no option to disable pixel-shading in the game, so if your graphics card has trouble with this you might have some problems. [Thanks to Masta for this]

The game is even bigger than Morrowind, literally huge in size and scope, and still contains all the customisation of the previous game (a lot more in fact), and its free roaming nature. The graphics are amazing. Also the Dev team have made the NPC's a lot smarter, using a new Radient AI program, which the producer refered to as a combination of Ultima 7 and The Sims, this results in some nice moments.

Unlock Print Screen (PRTSCN) button
There is a setting in the INI file:
bAllowScreenShot=0
change to:
bAllowScreenShot=1

There are two INIs, one in the game folder called "Oblivion_default.ini", this is the one it uses to generate the REAL one....
My Documents\My Games\Oblivion\Oblivion.ini

Edit the first one if you want to default to having screenshots on by default for all users. The settings it uses at runtime are the ones from My Documents folder.
After you mod the INI file, you can press PRTSCN button and Oblivion will write a BMP file to your game folder.
-To bring up the console press the tilde key (above tab)
-Typing TM into the console toggles hiding of all menus (for taking screenshots)

Available Factions/Guilds:
-Mages Guild [returning]
-Fighters Guild [returning]
-Theives Guild [returning]
-Dark Brotherhood [New](more 'evil' than the honourable Morag tong, shame i liked the MT)
-The Blades are back, again as part of the story [returning]

-The Arena [new] (lets you fight a variety of NPCs. Even after you have "completed" the Guild there will probably still be fights waiting for you at the Guild. You will also be able to bet on the fights that take place in the Arena.)

There are other factions although no others seem playable, they include the Imperial Legion, the Nine Divines (a temple group), The Mythic Dawn (Daedra worshippers), the Warf Rats (think Cammona Tong but smaller perhaps), and the Necromancers.

Updated
-There are other factions out there you can join, i don't actually know how many, but i recently joined one that was not one of the originals stated. These hidden factions are probably smaller overal than the Mages/Fighters etc. though.

Misc info
-Werewolves will not be returning initially although you cannot rule out another expansion.

-Vampires however are back, and with a new biting animation ;)

-Spears, throwing weapons (e.g stars), and crossbows have been removed.

-Each of the 9 major cities has a house you can buy and have for your own. You can go around in town and buy different things to decorate your house with, so you have places to put all the stuff you collect. One of the houses that you can purchase is initially haunted.

-go Here to find basic info on the skills in ES:O

Tweaking the graphics I got it not too bad, still laggy in some areas of course though- I don't have the greatest unit. For those that have terrible lag, defrag your computer/free up space on your hard disk ect. That helped alot, Oblivion puts alot of files on your PC. Also, when getting bad lag, quick save and then exit/re-enter the game to flush out the overload. Hope that helps :)

*spoilers I guess*

This game is awesome, just the little things too. In the beginning tutorial you can push those logs down on the goblins, and later on in the pit cave part you can pull this stone thats attatched to a rock, and that will release the rats in the cage. They go and attack the goblin witch! And I was using one of the dead emporers guards katanas, and Baures I believe said "Thank's for keeping their swords, we'll take those and put them in the blades hall of honor." The little things my friends, awesome :D

Uhm, took me 3 hits to kill him with my daedric claymore =x
Was expected though, thats why i actually woke him up after feeding from him, instead of just killing him in his sleep. I at least wanted to hear him smack-talk before cutting him down <3

Well since the spoilers tag is in the title of the thread, should be fine to say. Go to the lower part of his house, and look for a trap door to his training room. That's where I found him anyway, and yeah I missed the trap door first time around too. His melee owns though, so I had to kite him with my bow, but from what you said earlier that sounds good to you anyways.

gah...now I've got to listen to Mic and Ris' pointless whingings about jerkiness and random obsessings about the fact that you can pick up almost everything and turn your character blue *glares at Mic*

Doesn't look too bad actually, if I could be bothered, I'd probably play it at some point...but like I said, can't be bothered with computer games too much

i hope i didnt miss it. im killing those draconis guys now. i have blade skill of ~20 and bow skills of ~50 and very often i feel like using a blade instead coz of very fast attack speed of daggers. thats why i need a cool bow...

anywayz i dont like the thing which was removed since morrowind. and that is automatic item recharging influenced by misticism ( i think).

One of the coolest things that has happened so far for me is this : On my way to the imperial city on horse back I had already encountered and closed an oblivion gate. On my way I went past a village called Alesdale (methinks). It seemed to be completely deserted a few houses and no one around. This looked promising to me, although I am a battlemage, I thought I'd have a snoop around. So I walked into the first house and had a rummage, omfg a shimmer behind prompts me to have a conversation with an invisible man, a wizard moved in nearby and one of his experiments has gone wrong making everyone in a certain radius invisible, I go to him, kill some invisi-creatures on the way, get the reversal scroll, cast it in the middle of the village and the first invisible guy I met gives me a free bed anytime I want it in his inn, sweet :D

Glad to hear the game is living up to expectations more or less so far, i still havn't had time to really play it, i'm only level 2 just after weynon priory, but still its very enjoyable :)

Oh about my opinion that i need a memory upgrade, you are correct Saz video card is probably the most important that i can see, however my 9800 seems to be coping okay, i could do with a faster processor but no way am i forking out for a new one atm.

Seeing as details are coming out now, how about sharing your character and some highlight experiences withg us? I am playing a Bosmer (wood elf) custom class, my specialist are is stealth, with agility and Willpower as the key attributes, my key skills are: Alteration, Acrobatics, Sneak, Light Armor, Marksman, Blade, & Restoration.

Most interesting thing i've done so far is clean out some elven ruins and kill a necromancer, zombies are quite tough.

If i can work out how to take them i'll upload some screenshots and link to them perhaps.

Edit: Another cool thing that happened, was after looting the elven ruins i took some old elven loot and sold it to a merchant. A short while later a guy came upto me saying his boss heard i had sold the artefact and would like to talk to me, i havn't seen him yet, but i liked the way that quest was implemented, took me by surprise.

I just really hate the lack of compatibility for low-end pcs in oblivion. They shouldve at least added an option which allows you to choose between pixel-shader versions and/or disables pixel-shader altogether like in TES3.
