Well, this game comes out at the end of the month so i thought i would start a thread for it to see who else is interested in it. :)

For those that do not know, the Elder Scrolls games began back in 1994, and are the creation of Bethseda Softworks. They are Action/RPG's, set in a fictional world of Tamriel, and each game is unique in story, and location, sharing only small things in common plot wise, although they all add to the history of the games.

I had not heard of them, until 2002 when they released Elder Scrolls III:Morrowind for the PC, the game was enormous, and gave huge amounts of choice in what the player did, right from the character creation onwards. Needless to say i was impressed. Anyway the game spawned two expansions, and has become hugely popular online among modders, partly due to its unique construction kit released with the game. It has also since been released on the X-Box.

The New game is designed for the Next-Gen consoles (360 etc.) and of course is also coming out for the PC, for which the specs are:

Recommended
3 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
1 GB System RAM
ATI X800 series, NVIDIA GeForce 6800 series, or higher video card

Minimum System Requirements
Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows XP 64-bit
512MB System RAM
2 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
128MB Direct3D compatible video card
and DirectX 9.0 compatible driver;
8x DVD-ROM drive
4.6 GB free hard disk space
DirectX 9.0c (included)
DirectX 8.1 compatible sound card
Keyboard, Mouse

**Notes on requirements**
-There is currently no option to disable pixel-shading in the game, so if your graphics card has trouble with this you might have some problems. [Thanks to Masta for this]

The game is even bigger than Morrowind, literally huge in size and scope, and still contains all the customisation of the previous game (a lot more in fact), and its free roaming nature. The graphics are amazing. Also the Dev team have made the NPC's a lot smarter, using a new Radient AI program, which the producer refered to as a combination of Ultima 7 and The Sims, this results in some nice moments.

Unlock Print Screen (PRTSCN) button
There is a setting in the INI file:
bAllowScreenShot=0
change to:
bAllowScreenShot=1

There are two INIs, one in the game folder called "Oblivion_default.ini", this is the one it uses to generate the REAL one....
My Documents\My Games\Oblivion\Oblivion.ini

Edit the first one if you want to default to having screenshots on by default for all users. The settings it uses at runtime are the ones from My Documents folder.
After you mod the INI file, you can press PRTSCN button and Oblivion will write a BMP file to your game folder.
-To bring up the console press the tilde key (above tab)
-Typing TM into the console toggles hiding of all menus (for taking screenshots)

Available Factions/Guilds:
-Mages Guild [returning]
-Fighters Guild [returning]
-Theives Guild [returning]
-Dark Brotherhood [New](more 'evil' than the honourable Morag tong, shame i liked the MT)
-The Blades are back, again as part of the story [returning]

-The Arena [new] (lets you fight a variety of NPCs. Even after you have "completed" the Guild there will probably still be fights waiting for you at the Guild. You will also be able to bet on the fights that take place in the Arena.)

There are other factions although no others seem playable, they include the Imperial Legion, the Nine Divines (a temple group), The Mythic Dawn (Daedra worshippers), the Warf Rats (think Cammona Tong but smaller perhaps), and the Necromancers.

Updated
-There are other factions out there you can join, i don't actually know how many, but i recently joined one that was not one of the originals stated. These hidden factions are probably smaller overal than the Mages/Fighters etc. though.

Misc info
-Werewolves will not be returning initially although you cannot rule out another expansion.

-Vampires however are back, and with a new biting animation ;)

-Spears, throwing weapons (e.g stars), and crossbows have been removed.

-Each of the 9 major cities has a house you can buy and have for your own. You can go around in town and buy different things to decorate your house with, so you have places to put all the stuff you collect. One of the houses that you can purchase is initially haunted.

-go Here to find basic info on the skills in ES:O

seriously when you see that oblivion portal (no spoiler here) it looks like its not the fire etc coming out of it... but the LAAAAG :P
Your rig should be more then enough to handle it. Same goes to Elmo...a 9800pro will be sufficient in order to play the game at least on medium details.

Yeah thats what i am running it on, there are sine lag spikes now and then, i'm guessing Saz is correct about the Oblvion gate causing one too. I don't know much about computers tbh, but i am guesing upgrading the memory might help?

video card for teh win imo.

as for the game... i managed to turn myself into a vampire w00t! i have a savegame before this 'event' lol. anywayz... i have no idea how to feed  thats just ridicilous dont you think? :P
i tried checking spells menu but the only thing i found which is quite handy actually is a spell with life detection+nighteye.
after that i tried sneak attacking with my fists etc. hmmm

damn i want this game sooooooooo bad >_> <_< what graphic card do you guys have?
i have:
ATI radeon 9200 series graphic card (and a radeon 9200 series secondary, dunno what thats for :P)
2.8Ghz processor, pentem 4
1gb of RAM

although tbh i dont trust my graphic card sometimes :P or the problems i sometimes used to get may have been cuz of my virtual memory.
anyway u guys think i can run oblivion?

Thanks for the tips Masta :)

Yeah there is plenty you can turn down to improve frame rate, however i am now having a random problem where occasionally the textures distort or something; nothing in the troubleshooting, i am going to see if my drivers need updating or something.

hope it works out for ya man :)

In WASABI's case, insufficient ram would be the cause for certain unsmooth animations. Try decreasing the resolution or setting the texture size to "small", if you dont mind the decrease in quality. Otherwise, his pc should be able to handle it...

most games rely mostly on CPU, graphic card and your processor dont they? i always thought they were most important for a gaming pc etc

It has been confirmed they will not be any demo of Oblivion sorry man.

I've been in need of an upgrade for a while and i was not holding my breathe it would be playable to be honest. However i was pleasently surprised, running it on an Athlon 2800+ (2.08 Ghz), with 512 RAM (i plan on upgrading to at least 1GB soon), and a Radeon 9800 graphics card of some variety (im no expert in these matters) i get an okay framerate, more than playable, just with some longish loading times and the occasional moment where FPS drops low.

'tis ever so good, and i'm only level 2 so far.. so much more game to go. :D

Oh and on a side note, i was very impressed with the presentation of the collectors edition, it was of a high standard, and the manual was clear and concise on the changes they have made to the gameplay and controls etc.

3-10fps indoor on lowest without additional tweaking.
1-5fps outdoor on lowest without additional tweaking.

More reviews coming out now:

Game Daily - in my opinion a dodgy review, the guy didn't even seem to realise it was out for the PC as well. Still gave it 4.5/5

Ign - Only a three page first impressions so far, they are taking their time.

Gamespot Marathon - A report on a first ever 12 hour marathon live playtest. They have no reviewed it yet, but player reviews look promising (70% 'perfect' reviews)

Oh and a Norwegian (i think) site called Gamereactor gave it 10/10.

i dont rate gamespot user reviews, they are spammed to crazy with children saying XOMG it pwns j0000 buy it x 100 or CRAP CRAP CRAP CRAP .. etc..

Yeah i don't exactly look out for them myself, but i'm just putting down any info i come across really.
