Improving the JA | |
doobie - Jedi Council |
As most of you know (or who know who I am), I'm pretty much a silent partner in the JA at this point, but that doesn't mean I don't care. So here's what I'm wondering... in the absence of a new Jedi Knight game (c'mon Lucasarts, hook us up!), what can we do to keep the JA alive and thriving? Do we expand into other games? Do we simply exist the way were are as a "family" and accept that the training part is diminished as the game fade away a bit (let's be honest, it's been over 3 years since JK:JA came out)? Let me know what you think and how we can keep this place alive and keep the awesomeness that's been around for almost 4 years going well into the future. _______________ -Academy Leader/Dictator/Defeater of DJ Sith and JACen Solo in the JAK+ Tournament -I do think it (the JA) will help convert dozens, maybe hundreds, to the dork nation... --me |

Aww. Quote: -Either put focus on a new game.
Meh, in the long run it might be needed. But for now, I think we can get enough fun out of JA/JO to keep this place nice and fruitful. Quote: -Start 'clubs' for different games here at TJA, where people who play the same game online can get together and arrange things for it, maybe get a server running if that game is popular enough etc.
Same answer as above really. Quote: -Run some events for JKII and JK:JA, i'm sure there are plans for when v3 is released, and sometimes members do not show enough interest in events, however i'm sure if timed, planned, and executed correctly a series of events would work well.
Agreed. Quote: -A party. Any party. Possibly including nachos.
Mmmmmm, nachos... Quote: -Rotate the maps on the servers, or just do something crazy on them full stop, out of the ordinary stuff can make people interested.
I like this idea. Sure, when v3 is released we'll all be like little school girls and whatnot, but in time we will get bored of v3 just as we are of v2 now. Switching maps frequently could give this place some variety. Quote: -In the unlikely case you are not doing this, try trialing some prospects for new staff positions, maybe get creative and create a staff position for a JKII expert, there is bound to be one with time to spare, and it probably wouldnt be a demanding job.
Hmm, I'm not entirely sure how this would help increase activity. Quote: -Perhaps redux some competitions, or make new ones, give realistic, quirky rewards, such as honorary titles to the winner, even if they do not keep the title indefinitley i know from other forums that a simple thing like a title can make events/competitiopns a bit more fun.
I like this. Quote: -Maybe have one or two new really crazy classes, i know back in the 'golden days' there were some really quirkly classes, and i'm sure that our current JAT have not used up all their ideas yet.
That would awesome. I bet I could even find some time to get there on a pre-set time. Quote: -While upping the amount of server events is important, some new forum events would be great too.
Perhaps, but I can't really think of anything to do that is along those lines. Quote: -A JKII event week, a series of events based around JKII, could be called nostalgia week, yet for some members might give them a new experience if they have JKII but were not at the academy at the time. A limited edition class, staff appearences, server events, a competition, a tourney, old maps, any of these things could pull a few people onto the servers, especially if 'advertised' correctly.
That would be awesome if pulled off. Quote: -Find some way to reward members who spend a lot of time on the servers.
It's worth a try I suppose. Quote: -Instagib.
Yes. Definitely. This should be done as soon as possible. I suck at guns, but I love CTF, so insta was always a perfect way for me to enjoi my CTF without getting pwnt by the 1337 CTFers. This comment was edited by Pink_Mintaka on Jan 24 2007 10:02pm. |

More ideas are welcome. There have been quite a few ideas put forward, even if some are not considered long term solutions. I have gotten very little feedback from anything i have said, and i havn't seen that much feedback for others ideas either. -Either put focus on a new game. -Start 'clubs' for different games here at TJA, where people who play the same game online can get together and arrange things for it, maybe get a server running if that game is popular enough etc. -Run some events for JKII and JK:JA, i'm sure there are plans for when v3 is released, and sometimes members do not show enough interest in events, however i'm sure if timed, planned, and executed correctly a series of events would work well. -A party. These are just a few ideas i thought of, off the top of my head while writing this, some of them have been said before, and plenty of them would not be long term ideas, however at this point i think anything should be looked into if it adds some bounce to the community. I agree with Jaiko that some of us will be here until the day this forum is taken offline, and the nature of this wonderful community means that for some it will never die, or cease to be, however in the meantime we should drag the last dregs of fun we can get out of the Jedi knight games, and give it a proper seeing off, if it is dying at all. Now hows that for back on topic? /endwaffle E: Added Instagib to the list. _______________ To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield | Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken | Rhaiko D'kana - SWTOR EU Guild Co-Founder | Is it what the teacher, teaches? You know, I just spent fifteen or so minutes on wireplay with a couple of people and had a blast. I guess that's because I haven't played in so long, but seriously, JKA is such a fantastic game! Can you think of any other game with such in-depth melee combat mechanics? I think not, fanceh pants!

Lets just have a random, big gorram party or something. Maybe on JKII as a warm up before v3 comes out?
Personally i still think the best use of the renewed interest in JKII is to have a staff arranged event week, maybe with the aforementioned party, that ways even if interest in it does only last a small amount of time, then at least it will prove memorable. Oh and after having another look through the JA photo album i think there should be a new prom or something perhaps to go with v3's release, seeing as all us 'nooblets' who have still been here a fair while now missed out before. _______________ To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield | Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken | Rhaiko D'kana - SWTOR EU Guild Co-Founder | Is it what the teacher, teaches? The servers I play on have solid Rules against laming, racism, etc., the usual stuff that makes it hard to play on a public with no rules whatsoever.
Dude, sorry to break it to you, but the no-laming-rules annihilated the entire ffa community leaving only few honortarded 'grown-ups' 'chilling' and chatting with their sabers down pretending that they are true jEd4is while constantly watching over their server ready to kick/ban anyone who: a)disagrees with their opinion b)disagrees with their no-laming rules(which are dumb as ****) c)does not obey childish 'admin' requests d)plays the game as an FPS and not as The Sims 2. FPS == First Person Shooter And yes, JK3 == FPS. Dude. Hate to break it too you. But the FFA community is dead due to the game being old. That being said, this is a VERY big community. And the only viable way to keep order is to have rules. There are just too many factors (read: students) for it too work to everyones particular change. So the mass majority will always be looked after. I should also meantion that these "honortarded grownups" are most likely actually much older and with a much wider JA experience that you could possibly hope to reach. This place has been in service for a long while now. And will be in service long after you will leave us. The base idea for the JA was a secure and safe place for anyone to play their favorite game without the risk of some jerk shouting noob and whatnot at them. To be able to peacefully be able to duel with some friend and share some bits of life. Like pretty much any ordered community. If you don't get that, then why the hell are you here? So can we now leave your litte view of life and return to suggesting ways to renew? Yes? Even though the game is an FPS, if they have a rule for fighting in a way (for example duels, and bows, etc) you should respect that. And if you get kicked because you cannot, that is your problem.

Personally, the reason why i dislike mods is because they level the gameplay into complete inconsistency. These practices are sometimes held on Jaktorow (JAA Euro server, server details on JAA forums), due to the fact that most of the people that play are Euros. The JA has a CTF server that is used from time to time if you gather enough folks Regarding Instagib, the JA CTF server did have the Disruption mod on it, but it was taken off in order to have a normal ctf server.
