The Oldbie thread gave me this idea, but i will never post in there for oldbie's are elitist and scary. :P

So what was your first games system? What console or personal computer got you into playing video games and such?

For me it was the Atari, i only remember having that crazy mario game for it it was so long ago, but it was pretty fun. :D

zomg sho... we had something similar, when we had a C64 at my home. A table with the games and with the tape names + minutes where to find them :)

C64 was really a cool time. Even though I can remember much I still wonder how I could get that excited by some moving pixels when I look at it today :) But back then it was... yeah, kinda the coolest thing ever :)

The fun thing with the tape thingy of C64 was when you tried to load one game and the tape went over it, too far ahead thus corrupting the data. Then you had to rewind the tape and start again the whole process. If you were lucky it did not corrupt it, it just loaded a different game.
Oh I remember we had a note, a map if you like which contained where on the tape were in minutes (for example: The Last Ninja - 2:14:22 - 2:45:13 or so) :jj:

Our first computer was a Commodore 64. Yeah, I remember the loading times, too, Kaelis. I didn't know any better back then and thought waiting two minutes for a game to load 'normal.' As a result, soon as we got a Pentium something-something, I thought the games loaded in extremely fast :P
The computer was good fun, allowing me to play games and think up my own. They turned out pretty bad but yeah, can't win 'em all, lol.

C64, used to wait ages for a game to loads then quickly die and wait ages again :(

I had a sega master system! It had alex the kidd built into it, alex!

Haha i remember that! I got a Master System after the Atari, it came with Alex the Kidd too. Been bugging me what the game was called for ages though lol.

After that i think it was a Mega Drive and a NES, not sure what order. Started playing old PC games back then too. The next wasn't until the N64 though i think, then a SNES. Followed by PS1, Gamecube, and then finally the PS2.

Oh and i remember the Amstrad too, one of my friends back then had one - crazy tapes

My first home gaming system was a Tandy TRS-80 CoCo1. IIRC it had 4K RAM and the games I played were loaded one of 2 ways, either by coding them or by running binaries. Binaries either came on cartridge, 5.25" floppy or audio casette. Playing games on a casette was interesting because the game would tell you when to hit stop and play on the tape player so the game could load more data.

The kids computer game magazines back in these days (mid 80's) had games printed in the back, written in BASIC source code. Enter the code and run the program and you got your game. The problem was most of the time the game was written in Apple BASIC which I had to translate to Tandy BASIC. I wasn't the best at this, being 6-8 years old, so sometimes the games would act funny. One of the cool parts about entering games in by source was I could write in my own special parts that automatically got me to the last level or made it easier or make it easy on me to map out the dungeon, etc. Ahh I miss those days. :)

stuff like contra or mario beats the shit out of sonic.

Yeah, but you think you're cool but probably haven't seen a girl in years so your arguement is automatically null and void.

Sonic > *

i sometimes wonder how u come to such bloody stupid conclusions. Playing games has nothing to do with getting laid, i play world of warcraft alot but i bet i get laid alot more than you do. <-- stupid comment so i dont go around saying it. Learn when to use stupid comments and when to just shut the hell up.
playing games and getting laid doesnt make us better than anyone else

If you hadn't realised, I wasn't being serious. I used a serious tone but I know there's no relation between playing video games and "getting laid" (I actually said just seeing a girl in general, way to overexaggurate).

And just to justify my point, I'm Christian. I wouldn't have sex until I'm married anyway.

:o @ people thinking I'm actually being serious.

I dont think being serious or not really matters. I could jokingly say to someone "LOL UR MUM IS DED" and it'd still hurt, you know?

Let's just drop it and stay on topic please. :)

Sonic is good, but I'm very partial to Mario. That is to say, I still play Super Mario World daily, without fail, because it's simply that bloody good. :D

Nintendo Entertainment System. I still remember jerking my controller up when I hit the jump in mario. In the time we had our NES game systems we had the 4 controller wireless hookup, an NES advantage controller and even the running pad.

That NES controller made the cheat in Megaman 3 much easier to do without a second player. I could just flip it over and have the joystick holding right.
