Dash Starlight - Jedi Instructor |
Welcome to the Fifth Anniversary Tournament! During the past few weeks you have had the chance to sign up for this. Now that you have done so, I have created the brackets.
Fith Anniversary Tournament Brackets over here. Please check the brackets carefully. I have divided the participants into two groups: the US and EU group. They will first duel amongst themselves, then the winner of each group will duel each other in the finale. There is a chance, however, that I have put someone from the US in the EU group or vice versa. If so, please let me know before Monday, June 11th, because that's when the tournament will be launched officially. Dates and structure. Please complete the duels in the format below. ROUND ONE (June 11th - June 18th) Best of 5. 2xNF, 2xFF, 1xNF. ROUND TWO (June 18th - June 25th) Best of 5. 2xNF, 2xFF, 1xNF. ROUND THREE (June 25th - July 2nd) Best of 7. 2xNF, 2xFF, 2xNF, 1xFF. ROUND FOUR (July 2nd - July 9th) Best of 7. 2xNF, 2xFF, 2xNF, 1xFF. ROUND FIVE (July 9th - July 16th) Best of 9. 2xNF, 2xFF, 2x NF, 2xFF, 1xNF. Rules. Rule #1: All matches must have a referee. This can be anyone inside the Jedi Academy community, but only with the consent of both duellers. Rule #2: The following attack(s) is not allowed: Spinning. Rule #3: Contact your opponent as soon as possible. Rule #4: In case there is no duel, it is up to the referee who proceeds, based on the amount of effort the duellers have put in to arrange a match. The one having made the most effort will advance. Rule #5: Complete the duels in the prescribed order. The tournament will be launched next Monday, June 11th. This is a Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast tournament. Results and demos can be posted in the Fith Anniversary Tournament - Results Only thread. (Demos are not mandatory, but they will come in handy in case a duel needs to be checked afterwards for any given reason. It's fun as well to simply watch duels again or handy to watch the tournament if you weren't able to see it on the server.) Contacting your opponent. Post on each other's profile to find a time and a place for the duel. Make sure you arrange for a referee as well. If there is no duel the referee will decide who advances. If there are no arrangements whatsoever by the time the round's deadline expires (not even a referee) I shall see if anyone is in title to advance. If not, both are disqualified. I suppose that covers it all, at least for now. I wish each of the participants good luck and most importantly, a lot of fun! _______________ The name is Bond. James Bond. So far a total of five matches have been held. Ive seen the rest making preparations to hold the matches, so I think we'll be fine. I'm posting this comment just in case though, as a reminder of the upcoming deadline of the first round. Matches can still take place on the 18th, but I'll have to start advancing people on the 19th. Please try to arrange matches, although like I said, I've seen you all make arrangements and think you'll be fine. _______________ The name is Bond. James Bond. I'd definitely like to see some of the matches as well. Quote:

I doubt it is possible to win a FF round with only force skill though i might be wrong.
Yes you are... Yup, very much so. In fact, with what little I've been taught about FF duels, I was told that many FF duels don't even use saber, or use it very rarely. I think it's because saber skill is required in both types Whereas force skill is only required in FF duels. Therefore the type that places emphasis on saber skill is valued more.
If I recall correctly we also teach Force, Guns, Alternate Gametypes besides the Lightsaber. This community resolves around learning the game. You will never become good at FF duels, if you always stick with NF. Doing something is the best way to learn. Since Lightsaber duels aren't that impressive in the JK series (IMO), I have always focussed more on Guns, the Force and Alternate Gametypes. The JA has always taught a wide variety of things, including the ones listed above, yet almost all Tournament resolve about NF duels. Offcourse most people play this game for the Lightsaber duels, so it's obvious that's what most Tournaments resolve about, but plenty of people like other aspects of this game as well. They participate in the NF Tournament for the fun of it, even if they aren't good at it or don't like them much. Why not do something else for a change. Let the people that aren't good with it learn something new, and please ones that aren't too fond of NF duels. One a last note. There isn't much point in doing mixed NF/FF duels, if you can win a match solely on NF rounds. I always thought the mix meant people needed to be decent in both areas to come out on top, not just perfect one area and still manage to cap the win. That isn't aimed against Dash, he said he did agree on me with that. I think it was a great idea to run this JK2 tournament, and I thank Dash for running this Tournament. Also, this doesn't have anything to do with me losing my match against Setementor, he was just too good for me, and much respect to him. I already noticed this, the match with Sete just made it even more clear. <3 to Dash and Setementor. I agree that tourneys are more oriented towards NF duels. For that I am extremely glad because I am not too fond of the force in this game. But maybe a FF tournament can be held one day? For I am sure that many people here in the JA love the force and rock at it. I think it's a great idea for a future tournament, just as long as there are still NF tourneys for us NF users. _______________ RIP MOM 06/29/58-07/31/08 Married to Koyi Donita 4/30/11 This comment was edited by Smilykrazy on Jun 14 2007 07:52pm. |

Why are there always more NF than FF rounds? Seems a bit unfair IMO. Someone that is very good at FF duels, but not so good at NF will always lose to someone who is the opposite.
Hope that can be straightened out in a future Tournament. This comment was edited by D@RtHM@UL on Jun 14 2007 07:15pm. |

Exactly, although I think there is an important difference. If I would let 12 people duel each other and give the 13th person a BYE, this person would automatically advance to round #3. (If I would let SaZ and Mikeh duel in the first round, Monty would be in round #3 automatically, because of the bracket's structure.) If I spread them in the first round, more people will get BYEs, but only once.
I could have a US vs EU duel, but that would mean one person would be 'stuck' in the other group until the finale. I don't think that's fair, unless I discard the entire EU - US setup altogether, which I don't intent to, so it'll be easier to arrange for times and people will duel at a more or less equal ping. _______________ The name is Bond. I don't get it. There are 6 BYEs, why not place those that got one against each other? Smiley and saz are both in different timezone-brackets - seperating the players into brackets according to their timezones was how dash originally intended it to be.
Moving the other 2 matches from round2 to round1 would result in the round1 victor receiving a bye in round2, making him advance to round3 etc. So in the end it really doesn't matter if they get a bye now or in round2. Yea, there would be less byes if more matches were played in the first round, but then some people will get byes in round2, so in the end, not much of a difference. _______________ "Do or do not, there is no try" Jedi Master Yoda Dual Saberist |
