OK, lets sit down and discuss this. when i saw the post on the home page, it almost made me cry. I really want to believe that NO! JEDI ACADEMY IS STILL ALIVE! TONS OF PEOPLE STILL PLAY IT! But after thinking about it, I realized that its true. Every day more and more people are not playing Jedi Academy, and even The Jedi Academy is slowing down. I remember when I first got Jedi Academy in the mail, five years ago. For me, (as it was my first real video game) it was like nothing I ever imagined. I played Jedi Academy every day, and I had no problems. I thought it would be that way for ever, and then, maybe five months ago, I started noticing that all the servers were commonly empty and even the Official JA+ Beta Test Servers were commonly filled to the brim with bots, like they are as I type. I don't exactly know what it is that is making Jedi academy less and less popular. Maybe its because of all the new games coming out like Call Of Duty: Black Ops or Halo Reach that are sucking up all the attention from the gamers out there. In my mind, the games like those listed above are simply not challenging enough. Anyway, what do you think?   _______________ Brother to Quill You don't understand. That is true, but what determines whether a game is 'old' or 'outdated' is less it's age and more the amount of support it receives from both the community as well as the developers. Unfortunately for JKA, it never received as that much attention from the latter - the much needed patch that would fix many horrible issues never came, nor did we get anysort of expansions or sequels. Most popular MMOs on the other hand receive a ton of updates, be it in terms of bugfixes or just additional content, and that is what keeps those games interesting.  _______________ Brother to Quill You don't understand. That is true, but what determines whether a game is 'old' or 'outdated' is less it's age and more the amount of support it receives from both the community as well as the developers. you do make a good point. I admit my mistake in stating that JK is dying. If you include JA+, I bet right now there are at least 20 servers with 2+ people in them playing (no bots). Dead? I still don't know why people keep saying JKA is dead. Basejka TFFA is pretty inactive, but when was the last time you guys ever looked at the server list? I guarantee you there'll never be a time for the next long while where you have trouble finding people to play with.
If you include JA+, I bet right now there are at least 20 servers with 2+ people in them playing (no bots). Dead? Absolutely not. Dwindling? Obviously. |

On topic: You're comparing JK:JA a game that is now about 8 years old to Reach and Black Ops which are both less than a year old (around 6 months?). Of course people are going to play them but the difference is the style of gameplay, people who have been playing as long as they have nowadays often always come back after trying out the "new big flashy fps". The games were targeted at certain audiences of which differ a fair amount between JK:JA and the other two you listed. The JK series will indeed at some point go out completely, that or a new game gets released or a modification for a different game brings everyone back in again, who knows? One thing is for certain though, the JA will be around for a number of years to come with or without JKA. This comment was edited by Everon on Jan 21 2011 01:34pm. |
