Cause you know you lurve it!

New info as and when it comes out.

So far the release is 11.11.11 which is easy enough to remember and approx 295 days from now.

Website
Worth a read
Four French dudes got 2 and a half hours each on a 3 month old build. Check out the roughly translated impressions here.

Skyrim is the homeland of the Nords, the original home of man. As far as I know the game is set around the death of the king which happens at the start of the game. I imagine very much like the death of the Emperor in Oblivion (Skyrim takes place around 200 years after the events of TES IV).

You take the role of the last of the Dovahkiin, or Dragon Born, and its up to you to deal with a civil war and some sick dragon thing.

Go here for more info: Link

SO! I had an idea.

How about all of us looking forward to Skyrim get together on TeamSpeak on Nov. 11th? We can chat, have a laugh and discuss our experiences as we play. Anyone wanting to play in silent for a bit is welcome to drop in and out at their leisure. I think it'd be a great excuse to chat with each other again! :D

Well, Skype didn't happen as I was busy that night. Hope everyone's enjoying Skyrim as much as I am. Can I please ask that nobody gives away any spoilers in this topic, please. Be fair to your kinsmen. :P

Still early in the game thanks to other commitments, but have had a wild ride recently:

>Got 'properly' inducted into the Companions

> Middle of nowhere trek (refuse to use fast travel :P) to Ivarsted, fought a dragon on a hill near a bunch of people chilling in a hot spring, various other random amusements

> stagger into Ivarsted with a full inventory, listen to that special Bard song (awesome) and go to sleep. Wake up and find a guy I didn't recognise who challenged me to a drinking competition, duly accepted...

>Wake up in Markath Dibella Temple. :|

>Clean said temple and stumble into the clear light of day. Quickly get embroiled in some sort of conspiracy with the locals, this should end well.

>Sent to 'un-escapable' prison for my role in aforementioned investigation. :|

>Meet some friendly people who show me the way out, then proceed to murder a bunch of people and tell me I should avoid them at all costs. Oh dear.

>Still somewhat dazed and confused and just wanting to go home I bump into some guy calling himself a Vigilant of Stendarr. He just wants me to take a look in this nearby house, easy enough.

>Oh come on... Yeah, I ate him.

I have no idea what to expect next. It's great!

A dragon attacked Riverwood. There was one casualty: the dog.

Harsh.

Also, I love my horse. It can climb nigh vertical cliff faces with ease - it's spider horse! (Spider horse, spider horse, does whatever a spider horse does).

The same is especially true for mages, who would sometimes instaZAP me with their magix and there was, in Vision's words, 'nothing you could do vs that'.

Except for stacking resist magic and resist certain element potions!

thats why i made breton warrior lol.
im rather curious how everything will turn out.
i mean breton abilities+ alteration magic resist+alteration atronach... heck i could even get atronach stone. immune to magic?

Got bored at level 25...

Dialogues are very predictable and I end up just clicking right mouse button, yelling "SHUT UUP!" "SHUT UUP! I KNOW ALLREADY WHAT TO DO!"

HUD is annoying

Playing Mage is unbelievable hard! If you don't go Winterhold at first. Good Luck with walking/running!

What if I don't want to be dragonborn!

Do I have to read all the books!

You can't fight and ride on the same time, wtf!

+all the glitches and bugs... Over Hyped Game! Confirmed!

EDIT:

Gotcha ya! The Game is awesome...

Warriors have always had it easier in TES games, but you can even the playing field by modifying difficulty or ignoring some of the more beneficial perks.

Up the difficulty and play as a warrior with a knack for alchemy, I have a potion for every situation. It is a lot more satisfying than the old poison assassin build, I only really use a bow to deliver a paralysis shot to temporarily even numbers.

Nothing feels better than draining a boss level Mage character of all its magicka then laughing when he pulls out a dagger to tangle with my axe.

well you just confirmed that the games difficulty is off.
why you should be struggling as hybrid on normal difficulty and slaughtering everything as warrior.
kinda lame imo, i always play on normal no matter what since thats how the game is balanced usually.

lvl 20 warrior now, didnt do dragon tablet quest yet, because tbh even tho dragons are nice - they are more like annoyance sometimes.
ummm...
id say the game is piss-easy as warrior. i didnt even start crafting yet.

the game was way more challenging as hybrid assassin mage character, mainly, because the very nature of character was very low (if any) defense.
and while it was fun backstabin and casting spells, the damage didnt really scale that well tbh.

Sword & Shield is fun, you can bash those mages and force them to stop using those silly wards. Shield bash really comes in handy often if you play a warrior.

Thanks Saz. :) Think I'll grab some Resto perks in that case, I have never tried Conjuration in any ES game before oddly enough so might go for that as well, shall have a think.

Still unsure whether to go dual wielding or sword and board though and it's gotten to the point where I need to make a decision. :P Anyone find one more enjoyable than the other?

Alex, im playing my second char, a warrior and id say out of all magic schools the only benefitial ones for warriors are:

restoration - healing, also the high level perk that allows you to cheat death should be great. not to mention perk that makes all healing spells restore stamina.
conjuration - if you are into summoners, bound weapons etc
alteration - magic resist and atronach defense. yes please.

other perks that are a must for sword and board characters is ofcourse the left side of blocking skill perks. my friend said that he kinda sweeped 5 enemes off the cliff with one shield charge. while that might be annoying considering the long journey to pick up the loot, but... yea..
also the block-slow mo perk is great. would benefit dual wield so much... too bad they cant block lol.

hah yeah. tho i must say... many areas in the world are really good looking. considering how many people whined about game not using dx11 etc, this game kicks them in the nuts hard. great looking engine.
personally my favorite areas in the game are:
throat of the world
south east area towards riften
areas surrounding helgen
perma-blizzard surroundings of winterhold
and ofcourse the whole ending area
Quote:
It's up to the player if he wants to do that or not imo.

that is true.
however the majority of players that i discussed about skyrim were using the melee fighter builds. since they are a bit into minmaxing in rpgs... you can see where this is going.
the problem i have with those people is that they call the game easy while going that TES exploity path that you talked about yourself.

just, because the game allows you to become godlike with 100% chameleon in morrowind and oblivion that doesnt mean its not cheating and that you should do it. many people nowadays dont know the meaning of that word anymore. lol

This dragon slaying is a lark isn't it? The game wasn't impressed with my initial tactics however, it frowned upon my attempt to jump on the dragons back from half way up a tower. Ow.

Went with my High Elf idea, which (after catching up on recent history in some of the books) seems a much more interesting race to play as thesedays anyway.

Signed up with the Companions too, much better than the Fighters Guild so far but then they do fit the Nord culture and whatnot.

Focusing on one handed swordplay and heavy armor and still making up my mind what other skills to emphasise. I'm presuming there is a similarity to the role the major skills of old played and that taking perks in a ranged skill and a healing skill as well as combat and defence would be beneficial?

Any recommendations perk wise for an out and out fighter character? Not against using some magic but not planning on using it much, despite my choice of race.

smithing, enchanting 100 and also full gear with enchanting, smithing increasing effects. you can find ridiculous items on google and youtube. basically you can craft better items than you can get from quests and dungeon loot. if that fact alone isnt questionable then items being several (if not more times) times better surely is.

the bad thing is that people who notice that making iron daggers is the best way to level your smithing... well they do that as early as first 2 hours of the game.
That is fair enough, but such funky uses of the game mechanics were known since morrowind, where you could exploit the alchemy mechanic to make you a god a few minutes into the game. It's up to the player if he wants to do that or not imo.

EDIT: Can't wait for mods to PCify the game properly and fix all the issues. Bethesda be damned.

EDIT2: I've heard that a bunch of smart builds make the game really easy though, even without playing the system. That is unfortunate and shows that the game isn't really balanced all that well. Mods might fix this.

as for storylines i really recommend thieves and dark brotherhood. the later is ofcourse about stuff that youd expect. thieves guild however... not exactly.

I think the main quest was absolutely amazing. It was, in fact, one of the best gaming experience that I've had in a very very long time. I only did the companions questline next to it, which I really enjoyed as well, partially because the companions are culturally and ideologically right up my alley.

As for smithing making the game too easy, I really don't know about that. I went for a pure 2H warrior build, maxed out smithing towards the end (got a full suit of daedric armour plus a greatsword half-way through the main quest, fully upgraded) and felt quite challenged at times, especially towards the end and against certain dragons. Although I guess you meant going for an enchanting/smithing combination, where you make ridiculously powerful gear with enchantments. I've not tried that yet, but I can see why it might make the game too easy.

hmmm finished thieves guild, was a little... different from what i expected from a thieves guild atleast compared to last two games lol.

anyway id say:
dark brotherhood> main quest> thieves guild> mages guild.
not gonna go with companions with this char, but from the looks of it, mages guild is seriously the weakest story.

edit:
from peoples opinions about the game id say everyone who used enchanting and smithing said the game was too easy. i dont see how it wouldnt be when you can make bows that deal 900 dmg per hit. it doesnt take a genius to realise thats completely overpowered and that you shouldnt use that if you want a normal game experience.

after i finish thieves guild with my mage assassin ill make a new char.

id say mage completely misses the whole 'loot game' since to increase your power all you can do is find unique artifacts or enchant your items to give them some defensive or support abilities. staves are pretty much useless as well aside from a few unique ones. so yeah... you cant increase your damage. not that the damage is low, but i really miss out a huge part of the game - looting. i actually only collect low weight high value items to sell them later. thats all.

so im planning on 2handed weapon wielding melee guy. either orc or breton. probably breton lol.
