TES V: Skyrim - *No Spoilers Please* | |

Cause you know you lurve it!
New info as and when it comes out. So far the release is 11.11.11 which is easy enough to remember and approx 295 days from now. Website Worth a read Four French dudes got 2 and a half hours each on a 3 month old build. Check out the roughly translated impressions here. Skyrim is the homeland of the Nords, the original home of man. As far as I know the game is set around the death of the king which happens at the start of the game. I imagine very much like the death of the Emperor in Oblivion (Skyrim takes place around 200 years after the events of TES IV). You take the role of the last of the Dovahkiin, or Dragon Born, and its up to you to deal with a civil war and some sick dragon thing. Go here for more info: Link SO! I had an idea. How about all of us looking forward to Skyrim get together on TeamSpeak on Nov. 11th? We can chat, have a laugh and discuss our experiences as we play. Anyone wanting to play in silent for a bit is welcome to drop in and out at their leisure. I think it'd be a great excuse to chat with each other again! Well, Skype didn't happen as I was busy that night. Hope everyone's enjoying Skyrim as much as I am. Can I please ask that nobody gives away any spoilers in this topic, please. Be fair to your kinsmen. _______________ -Padawan of Virtue -Brother of Menaxia, *|irael, Krynn Adept, Majno, Ris Win Juljul, DaMi3N, Beowulf, Dash Starlight, Carrock and Yuken Zalak Bartender at Munes bar. Thanks for sharing Amik! Skyrim is a lot more desolate than Oblivion, in a beautiful and mysterious way. If you miss that kind of atmospere from Morrowind, then you will love Skyrim. You can go hours accross the planes, mountains and forests to only see wildlife. Then while enjoying the beautiful landmarks, a group of bandits will intercept you. While pumped with adrenalin fighting off half a dozen bandiits with your trusty thane, you hear a loud roar accompanied by flapping wings. A dragon suddenly swoops down and eliminates all said bandits with its fiery breath.
Suddenly, you are going from fignting off weak bandits to downing a huge fire breathing lizard. You frantically try to pump it full of arrows untill it finally drops down to fight you in melee. With a shield in one hand, a war axe in the other, you carefully whack it to death while avoiding getting insta-killed. Finally, with one last crushing blow, you defeat the dragon and get its soul as a reward. You loot all the corpses and begin to head to your initial destination.....until a thief confronts you (with the dead dragon in plain sight) and asks you to hand over all your valuables. Just another day being the dragon born. But yeah, the game's atmosphere is kind of life daggerfall/morrowind with the vibrance of Oblivion. Combat is improved, but you can't expect it to play like a decent 1st person shooter (with swords). A lot of lore, activities, side-quests, scripted encounters and places to explore. Skyrim is best described as you having either one of two things: A feeling of peacefulness or utter chaos. _______________ "Deos fortioribus adesse." |

No elves or beasts yet then, interesting! No out and out magic users either.
How are you all finding the levelling? Oblivion was notoriously bad in that department (without mods at least) but I hear Skyrim has improved in that department. Any incredibly random (but awesome) things happened to you yet? Watching livestreams etc. I still get this 'Morrowindy' vibe from it (despite the lack of giant mushrooms etc.) is that just me or would you say it has recapturred a similar atmosphere to that game? _______________ To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield | Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken | Rhaiko D'kana - SWTOR EU Guild Co-Founder | Is it what the teacher, teaches? Quote: So what race/playstyle have you guys gone for in the end?
I need interesting anecdotes and crazy stories to tide me over until I can actually play it. @Mic: Could you put a spoiler warning in the title once plot spoilers start to get discussed? I'll be careful reading the comments anyway but would be a nice heads up. I went for Nord male called Mikhal Wolf-Bane. He's my Daggerfall/Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim carry-over character. My "test the waters" build is usually spellsword which is proving to be interesting this time around. I'll probably be making a Khajiit next. I'll keep reading the comments and will post a spoiler warning if plot elements get leaked. _______________ -Padawan of Virtue -Brother of Menaxia, *|irael, Krynn Adept, Majno, Ris Win Juljul, DaMi3N, Beowulf, Dash Starlight, Carrock and Yuken Zalak Bartender at Munes bar. That's high praise! And I'm seeing similar reactions elsewhere, although I am going to avoid reviews as I already know I'll love the game and they will only colour my initial perception of it.
Sadly I won't get the chance to find out what I think of it for a week though, confirmation that due to a certain part not being in stock I won't be getting my PC tomorrow. It's almost wose having Skyrim sitting here, with no way to play it. _______________ To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield | Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken | Rhaiko D'kana - SWTOR EU Guild Co-Founder | Is it what the teacher, teaches? Not sure I'll be able to join you afterall by the way. Apparently Skyrim is getting a day one release patch.
That means Skyrim will be v1.1 on 11/11/11. _______________ -Padawan of Virtue -Brother of Menaxia, *|irael, Krynn Adept, Majno, Ris Win Juljul, DaMi3N, Beowulf, Dash Starlight, Carrock and Yuken Zalak Bartender at Munes bar. Sir Mic of Nippledom! Proudly beating Wang, since '07. (Crackdown) |

Quote: Against Dragons, I think archery plays a very important role. From what I've seen, you can hide from dragons for short moments while they are circling around the area. That would allow you to sneak shots into them, whittle them down and play peek-a-boo. I think it shouldn't be a problem, but requires the player to have a lot of patience.
Yeah, between the new archery, everyone having some degree of magical talent (as usual), and most importantly the dragon shouts I don't think any build will find taking down dragons impossible. ...Some may find it a lot trickier than others however. :p _______________ To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield | Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken | Rhaiko D'kana - SWTOR EU Guild Co-Founder | Is it what the teacher, teaches? also regarding playing stealth character as the first playthrough... i think its the best way.
That's actually a good point that I partially disagree with.
you still dont know enemies, their awareness, the locations, monster density etc. its a thrill. after playing as berserker... you would kinda know what to expect and wouldnt sneak through the whole forest like a dumbass. this wouldnt be the case other way around - knowledge of whats ahead doesnt concern you - youll bash all their skulls, thats why you are playing warrior after all. Stealh characters tend to be more vulnerable in combat (especially at the start), relying on stealth, speed, traps, archery and therelike, which would make initial encounters more risky. Combined with the uncertainty of a first playthrough, I can see where the appeal might be in such an approach. I disagree in that you seem to underestimate the difficulty of playing the other classes. There is always room for failure, no matter what build you pick - otherwise the game would be much too easy in general. I died many, many times in Oblivion on my later playthroughs on normal, despite being an experienced warrior. The equipment is a pretty big factor, and it's tricky to find good stuff that could give you somesort of early headstart. In the end, I think all of the approaches have value and it remains mostly a matter of personal taste. i dont really think that playing a warrior is easier. as you said you need good equipment, while equipment for stealthy character actually plays a lesser role. its funny, because getting equipment as a thief is much easier. i guess my point was that the absence of uncertainty factor on the second playthrough hurts stealthy characters more. choosing how to play your first character can mean more than most people think, especially since a lot of people (myself included) say that they will play the game many times, but drop the game halfway on their second playthwrough. _______________ playing jk3 since 30th of january (2005), member since 1st of february. yeah im just wondering if its gonna be possible to do anything silently.
ofcourse id imagine there might be a dragon sleeping in a cave, but.. im not so sure. anyway those vids are being removed. i dont think we actually need them anymore. Archery is vastly improved and it looks like enemies wont detect you as easily after the first arrow. I think stealth will have a strong presence. yeah im just saying that after seeing those dragon fights videos its kinda hard to believe that stealth is a viable way lol. but we shall see. also in b4 someone makes a mod with dragon spawn rate as high as cliffracer in morrowind. also regarding playing stealth character as the first playthrough... i think its the best way. you still dont know enemies, their awareness, the locations, monster density etc. its a thrill. after playing as berserker... you would kinda know what to expect and wouldnt sneak through the whole forest like a dumbass. this wouldnt be the case other way around - knowledge of whats ahead doesnt concern you - youll bash all their skulls, thats why you are playing warrior after all. just a few thoughts. i tend to be a little tense even in non-horror games lol, so thats why im always playing stealth - i dont want to be seen before i see them and if thats one scary rat ill just avoid it completely. Quote: Something has lured me over to this title, i just ordered it.. I hated Oblivion but alas we shall see haha
heh i kinda enjoyed oblivion, but it wasnt really that good in some places. especially mages and fighters guilds quests. i mean they kinda made it obvious that in fighters guild they think you are a moron. the game was worth playing just for some questlines and dark brotherhood quests tho. as far as i get it they will improve skyrim in ways that most people modded their oblivion. im guessing deadly reflex is one of those mods. which makes game completely awesome by default. when i try to imagine a good fighting system, this phrase comes into mind: 'impale him, sareph'. not sure if you guys will get it. _______________ playing jk3 since 30th of january (2005), member since 1st of february.
