Cause you know you lurve it!

New info as and when it comes out.

So far the release is 11.11.11 which is easy enough to remember and approx 295 days from now.

Website
Worth a read
Four French dudes got 2 and a half hours each on a 3 month old build. Check out the roughly translated impressions here.

Skyrim is the homeland of the Nords, the original home of man. As far as I know the game is set around the death of the king which happens at the start of the game. I imagine very much like the death of the Emperor in Oblivion (Skyrim takes place around 200 years after the events of TES IV).

You take the role of the last of the Dovahkiin, or Dragon Born, and its up to you to deal with a civil war and some sick dragon thing.

Go here for more info: Link

SO! I had an idea.

How about all of us looking forward to Skyrim get together on TeamSpeak on Nov. 11th? We can chat, have a laugh and discuss our experiences as we play. Anyone wanting to play in silent for a bit is welcome to drop in and out at their leisure. I think it'd be a great excuse to chat with each other again! :D

Well, Skype didn't happen as I was busy that night. Hope everyone's enjoying Skyrim as much as I am. Can I please ask that nobody gives away any spoilers in this topic, please. Be fair to your kinsmen. :P

what those ideas are?

ill most likely build khajiit stealth with illusion magic school as one of the main focuses.

<3 Khajiit.

One would be a Khajiit thief, a combination of the whole Water Dancer thing from Game of Thrones/ASoIaF and more traditional thievery. I would completely avoid magic on this character though. All pickpocketing, lockpicking and such. Could be interesting working out how to kill a Dragon with him.

The other would be a Bosmer 'Witch of the Wilds' kinda thang. A sneaky magic user more at home in the wilderness than cities. Would make good use of alchemy and the silent spellcasting you mentioned. :)

I am still quite tempted to play a more warrior-like character first of this time though, my first ES characters are usually sneak based kleptomaniacs so a change could be good. I have a couple of ideas in that regard to, one of which would be an Altmer bounty hunter raised in Elsewyr who is an expert in hand to hand (I have a challenge set for myself where I defeat the last boss by punching him/her/it in the face).

Will find out Friday! :D

@Montee: Depends what you didn't get on with in Oblivion but from everything I can see Skyrim is going to blow it's predecessor out of the water. Hope you get on better with it!

I have a video containing 3 hours of gameplay on my computer. I skipped all the main and side quest content and just watched some of the exploring and combat, and holy crap it's awesome.

Also, "Things I Ate In Skyrim."

i wonder what lycantropy, vampirism and cannibalism mechanics will be.

vampirism as i said before wasnt practical.
lycantropy was id say even worse - you couldnt use or pick items, your human form attributes and skills didnt affect werewolf form at all, every humanoid mob in the game had enhanced weapons - you were still with your claws, a lot of enemies having silver weapons. pain in the ass without much fun apart from roleplay/questing aspect.

anyway just realised a very huge problem with stealth in skyrim - how do you deal with dragons?
i guess you will be pretty much forced to use bows to take them to the ground and then you will be there with your light armor getting blaster to pieces :C

I was a little shocked when I read that werewolves are back in.

Going off what they had said previously it sounded like they were skipping over them and didn't want to talk about it. I thought for sure they wouldn't be in.

Played me well, Mr Howard. Played me well.

Not 100% confirmed, but the screenshots are convincing. There are quite a few very skilled photoshop users in the world, though.

Cannibalism comes from this description from a rating bureau.

Quote:
THE ELDER SCROLLS V: SKYRIM is a role-playing game for PC, set in a vast open-world playing environment. The player takes on a number of quests in an attempt to save the land of Skyrim from destruction in a time of civil war. The game was classified '15' for strong violence.

There is violence throughout the game as the player attacks enemies using a range of weapons, including swords, daggers and axes. Attacks cause large spurts of blood but no realistic injury detail. The amount of blood goes beyond the limits of the BBFC's Guidelines at '12A'/'12', which state 'There should be no emphasis on injuries or blood' but is permissible at '15' where 'Violence may be strong but should not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury'. It is not possible to inflict further damage on the corpses of defeated enemies. While attacking innocent characters and allies is possible, it is not encouraged by the game mechanics as it makes you more likely to be attacked yourself and therefore hinders your progress. The game places a strong emphasis on problem-solving and collecting information rather than solely focusing on violence.

Other strong aspects of the game include: a cutscene which shows a decapitation during an execution; a section where you make the choice whether to join a group of cannibals in eating human flesh (although no detail of the activity itself is shown); and sight of a female murder victim with some bloody cuts on her limbs and back.

when the game is more into dungeons and city-life... there is no need for oblivion realm kind of thing ... thus stealth should be much more viable? no?

Stealth characters can be so much fun and you better believe I'll have one. But my first character is going to be an absolute savage berserker Nord barbarian hell bent on smashing dragon skulls apart with the nearest blunt object.

I won't play stealth on my first playthrough. I'll play a standard warrior (as is typical for me when it comes to RPGs). I'll probably pick mage second, then sneaky sneak-sneak third.

i just sort of do that naturally in games where steath is possible lol.
still in oblivion im not sure i liked the stealth.
sure the thieves guild and dark brotherhood missions were great, but main quest was terrible to do with a stealth character.... main quest was just too painful to finish.

i had pretty much the same character in oblivion and morrowind :P
in skyrim this is even more appealing since i read that youll be able to select silent spellcasting perk for illusion school which benefits ALL spells. too good to miss.

Really not sure. I've got a few different ideas for characters so far, two of those are stealthy. Which one I play will probably be a spur of the moment thing.

I'm really liking what I've heard about the stealth improvements though, hope it is as good as it sounds.

I'm even liking the way they have added that quest tracking spell. Seems like a less obtrusive version of Fable's breadcrumb trail that makes some kind of sense within the lore of the game.

Anyone hear that story about chickens reporting crimes? Looking forward to the first mod that puts that back in the game. :p

Also only just noticed that they have removed the multiple guild halls thing. I was aware the guilds had changed, but not to that extent. I like the thinking behind the idea though, allows them to make each guild location more unique. It's not as if travel between locations is a big deal anyway (usually).

The loss of individual Mages guilds is worth a little mourning though I suppose. They used to represent the fast travel system afterall, and varied between location more than the fighters guild ever did.
