so... impressions?
so far i really liked what i saw, the hero pool they offered for the tourney is pretty good as well, out of 46 heroes only 2 were not picked in any of the matches.
hero design is really great, map atmopshere is very cozy (teamfortress2 style sort of).
everything else is completely like dota1.
the game pace is the same as in dota(hon is faster), the camera is normal (not ridiculously overzoomed camera in hon).
some elements of UI could do some work (the empty areas and skill icons arent very amazing), some hero details are weird looking (voids weapon and rexxars axe throw animation for example) and i just totally hate magina's new looks.

so yeah... looking forward to the rest of the matches in upcoming days and ofcourse to the release in hopefully near future.

so ive played almost 50 matches of dota 2 and i must say its pretty good.

there are huge skill gaps between players, but that aside its quite enjoyable.

The matchmaking for the teamgames is pretty good. I figure it's very similar to how 1v1 matchmaking works, seeing as you have separate points and ladder ranks for various teams, i.e. you can be in multiple teams in totally different leagues. The only problem is the 'random team' vs 'arranged team' win ratio, where, especially in diamond to grandmaster league, the arranged teams have a significant advantage and therefore a significantly higher win rate.

If you want more details, check out the TL post about it.

well its a different kind of game.
most of sc2 evolves around 1v1 matches while lets say every moba game depends either on premade teams or random team matchmaking. the later is most of the community, obviously random teams if the matchmaking is bad (example: league of legends uses ELO system which is designed for 1v1 play not teams lol) then it automatically adds to more frustration in matches. if the playerbase is huge then automatically you get a very possible chance to get players you dont like in pretty much every game.

thats what i fear about dota2 and thats why i wondered if the top rts title has some working matchmaking.
if not... it will have just as shitty community as this:

Well they are 2 separate things you won't get random team matchmaking at the competitive level you see the videos kn at say mlg etc so Itbwont affect the esport of it only general play outside of it.

The reason sc2 is by far the best rts export is because blizzard are constantly balancing it, kt is by far the most balanced game ever.

Dawn of war on the otherhand it takes relic forever to balance when a expansion comes out

since we got some sc2 players here ill use this chance and ask about matchmaking.
i figured 1v1 matchmaking is quite good, but i dont exacly hear a lot about team scene in sc2.
how is it?

the reason why im asking this is ... well sc2 is pretty much the top competitive rts title and/or esports game in general. if team matchmaking fails even there... i wouldnt really hope for dota2 to have a decent team matchmaking system.
im mostly asking about the random team matchmaking not arranged teams.

I tried playing HoN for the first time ever (never played DotA or LoL) and I gave up after a few days entirely because of an extremely immature and downright stupid community. Every game I connected to, even listed as a CASUAL match, would result in me being constantly flamed or votekicked.

I was also repeatedly told to "gtfo and play the tutorial". How the hell will that help? I already completed it, but I need experience.

If HoN players are anything to go by, I won't be touching any DotA-related game again.

well the longer matches werent due to some gameplay style of the game itself, but mostly china's metagame. the first match was quite boring indeed.

some matches were quite fierce and fast tho.

i feel for the 'bitter aftertaste', moba games tend to have very agressive and immature playerbases unfortunately, but i guess... i played dota a lot, lol a lot so... ill go for dota 2 as well. seems as natural as going for jk2 to jk3 lol.

2 hour long matches don't seem particularly enticing.

Having said that, I really don't care as that much for the game - I have SC2 and that kinda suffices. Besides that, HoN left me with a very bitter aftertaste, so I doubt I'll be particularly in the mood for any MOBA games for a very long time.
