Getting Jedi Academy running on Mac os 10.7+ | |
Sajid - The Undertitled |
Ok, I know there are not a lot of Mac users around this forum, but I thought I would write this up, encase someone stumbles across this site looking for an answer (Which is not available anywhere but here, after some thorough digging). This fix also applies to games like Wolfenstein ET and Jedi Outcast.
Ok. Jedi Academy is more widely available for Mac nowadays, and if you own it, and have upgraded your OS, you will find that it will open, close, then give you a crash report. These are the steps to get you back up and running again. 1: If you are just about to upgrade and are reading this, DON'T UPGRADE just yet. Follow steps 2 through steps . 2: Clean your base folder just to be safe. You don't want to go through a big hassle just to find out it was that mod that caused it. You can do so by going to : your computer > your harddrive > Users > your user > Applications > Jedi Academy > base . After that, insert your Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy disc into your drive. When it shows up on your desktop, double click it, and scroll down until you see a folder called base. Drag this folder into your Jedi Academy folder in your applications. Wait for it to do its thing, and click yes when it asks you to overwrite. 3: If that didn't work, we have to go a little bit deeper. Navigate to your Library folder at: your computer > your harddrive > Users > your user > library . When you are there, you will see a buch of other folders. Don't touch them, because you don't want to screw something up. The second folder on the list should be Application Support. Click on it, and scroll down until you see the folder Jedi Academy and Jedi Academy MP . To start, lets go with the MP folder (your Multiplayer JA folder). You should see a folder called base. For now, minimize that window. 4: Open Textedit. When in textedit: copy and paste the following into it: Quote: seta r_colorbits "32"
set r_allowExtensions 0 5: After you have done that, go to the menu bar, and click format then go down and click Make plain text . Then, hold down the Command button, and hit the s key. leave everything alone but the name. at the top, next to the words: Save as: . Change it from "untitled" to "autoexec" (without the quotes). then change the ".txt" to ".cfg" (again, without the quotes). cClick save down at the bottom, and close text edit. 6: Open the base folder you had minimized, and drag the autoexec.cfg into the folder. 7: Open up Jedi Academy MP, and it should run smoothly, as before. Troubleshooting: If it didn't work, check for spelling errors in the cfg file, and make sure you placed it in the right folder. I hope this helps someone. _______________ Brother to Quill You don't understand. I'm not locked in here with you, YOUR LOCKED IN HERE WITH ME! I'm at the point now where if a Windows/Mac/Linux user says Windows/Mac/Linux sucks or lacks ability to do something, I believe they haven't updated their tech knowledge within the last decade.
Gone to go play Quake 4 natively with max FPS on Linux+AMD graphics, bbl. @ Windows users: Get a real multi-user OS! @ Mac users: Get right click support! @ Linux users: Learn to use a GUI! This went of topic so quickly... Macs can right click you dunce! Laptops can right click, as well as desktops. EDIT: How can I move this to the JA discussion? That would be the joke. |

Hey it's ironic that wine on Linux can run games better than windows !!
If only It's true man I got better performance out of wow through wine than windows. Few other games too I guess it varies from system to system. On my laptop, I get a steady 100 FPS on JKA with WINE. With my new PC, JKA gets about 90 FPS with WINE and 300 FPS on Win7. Kinda weird. But for the most part, I see major performance degrades when using WINE. I heard that running HoN in WINE is better than running it natively though, lol. |
