It's hard to make a lightsaber game nowadays since people are more critical to realism so to speak. The movies do a good job of showing that a lightsaber is stupidly overpowered and can literally be used for anything. You would be able to 1shot everything so long as it made contact, yes mandalorian armour has some protection against it but not everyone is wearing it. _______________ If you add me to MSN, tell me who you are Best Movie Character EVER!! |

And Watch Dogs, holy jebus! I did find myself wishing the whole of the Watch Dogs footage had been about the sneaking/hacking/sleuthing stuff, as opposed to the multiple car pile up with guns. Don't get me wrong, that stuff is fun, but it was a lot less original than what went before. With that said I suspect (and hope) that there are multiple ways to complete the objectives, and it does look excellent in general. _______________ To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield | Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken | Rhaiko D'kana - SWTOR EU Guild Co-Founder | Is it what the teacher, teaches? I've been looking forward to the new TR since it's big reveal, but to be honest that trailer left me kinda underwhelmed.
Yeah all the action set pieces seem to be present and correct, but it seems to have moved a long way from it's original 'mysterious island, survive without contact from civilization' style into more typical Uncharted territory. Oh no, evil Russian criminals, really? Plus her VA leaves a lot to be desired in that trailer, certainly her cries of pain or exclamation would get old, fast. I did not spot a PC icon on the final screen, only the other consoles. Did anyone else notice this?
I also remain skeptical with it having been so long. Nonetheless, there is always a good case for a new Jedi Knight game considering how many people bought the previous games, despite the controversialness of JKA SP. I also agree about how it will probably suck if ported to PC, instead of it being ported to consoles instead and that few if any Star Wars games have compared to Jedi Knight games since. Now, let's do some research. It stated its domain was jediknight3.com. So we can lookup the whois for that domain and judge for ourselves: http://www.whois.com/whois/jediknight3.com http://whois.domaintools.com/jediknight3.com The person who uploaded this is in Germany. Would the game be likely to be made there? If the poster was just posting a video that somebody else posted, then where are the other videos of this "leaked" footage? The registrant of the website is parkingcrew.net based in New Zealand, a domain parking website. I think that if you were at the stage where you were happy enough with the game to make a trailer, then you would long have already registered the domain name. Plus, it's been 3 months since he posted it - why would you make a trailer but then not show it to IGN, GameSpot, etc. for over 3 months? Just some thoughts. |
Masta - Jedi Council |
JKA and JK2 were ported to consoles and they're pretty bad if you play them on a gamepad (they're not made for consoles) and whatever developer will be in charge they certainly won't want their game to suck on system X in comparison to system Y, unless the game in question is a port (cheap ports are so in nowadays).
Also, if you try to develop a game for both the PC -and- the consoles, then you won't create two versions of the same game with significant gameplay changes between them, but you will rather try to find somesort of compromise that will work for both systems equally as well. I don't mind if the compromise is in terms of interface or whatever (even then Skyrim was pretty bad in that regard), but it -will- have to be in terms of gameplay because the kind of gameplay that we have right now is terrible on a console (we agreed on that) - thus it will have to be changed to suit a simpler input device if it is to be released on the PC and the consoles at the same time. The possibility of it being developed for PC first and then ported to consoles is quite frankly very low (it is much more likely that the game will be developed for consoles first and foremost and we'll just receive somesort of cheap port like with TFU), as is the possibility of having two different versions of the same game with significant gameplay differences between them (can't even come up with an example of that one) and the possibility of a PC-exclusive release in general. It's close to impossible for jk4 to end up good. _______________ Find out more about the Jedi Academy Aurochs here and more about Masta here! Married to Kain. |

Masta, yeah I used to have JK2 on the Gamecube thinking it would be fun to play with some of my non-PC gaming friends. I completely agree the gamepad cannot compare to the kb+m set up of the PC, and in general the games were much weaker on the console. I was merely pointing out that it doesn't need to be a PC exclusive, rather it shouldn't be ported to the PC from the console.
Having the game on all systems is fine (and let's face it - it'll be on consoles if it ever appears), it just requires the PC version to be given suitable care and attention, something too few companies bother with, sadly. This can mean developing it for PC first and porting it to consoles, or simply spending enough time and resources on the PC port that it actually utilizes the systems capabilities. I mean, the sheer fact JK2 and JKJA are on consoles themselves suggests it isn't impossible to make a good JK game that can run on both consoles and PCs. _______________ To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield | Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken | Rhaiko D'kana - SWTOR EU Guild Co-Founder | Is it what the teacher, teaches? Hey Jaiko, good to hear from you. As for the youtube movie, I'm not so sure I believe it, honestly. The shaky camerawork and poor sound quality make me think this is an amateur who recorded a home-made movie using a webcam. I think if LucasArts released a teaser trailer that it'd look and sound a bit better, I'm afraid.
Even if this were real, I have to agree with the scepticism of previous posters... if a new Jedi Knight game were released I hope it'll have a complex and skill based sabering system (and force, guns and movement), but I have my doubts... _______________ The name is Bond.
