That's it. I've had it.

From now on, if you are enrolled in any of my classes and you don't show up, you will have 48 hours to bring me a valid excuse. If i don't get anything from you, I will not let you attend any of my classes for 2 weeks.

And don't worry, I do NOT forget!

Invalid excuses:

- i fell asleep
- i forgot
- my dog ate my mouse
- my dad/mom/sister/brother/goldfish had to use the computer (only accepted before and during class )
- i forgot
- your class is too early/late for me
- err... err.... err.... sorry g2g bye!
- i forgot
- etc...

Well there is one thing i just have to bring up. That`s the never ending changing of times and dates.

I wanted to attend a duelling class so much , that i stayed awake till 5:00 AM and when i joined it suddenly was a CTF class.

Another time i was up til like the next morning just to be able to attend, and then i was actually trown out of the server because there were to many for the class. I was 10 minutes late because i couldnt join, and the Trainer said it was due to some server problems, so it wasnt my fault. But anyways, a stranger who WASNT signed up on the class had taken my spot and i had to go !!

Maan i lost my motivation for days, now i am really careful taking classes ...

Would an accepted excuse be:

-Stuck in traffic on way home?
-Couldnt get on computer?
-Family decides we need to spend quantity time?

The purpose of signing up is so the trainers know that people are planning to show up. The students are committing their time to the trainer. And also the trainer then has an obligation to show up or have someone take over or give a reason for cancelling. Its respecting the people. "I'm showing up for your class so I hope to see you teaching it. If there isn't any proof of anyone showing up how can the trainer be sure if someone will be there, and the trainer might not feel as obligated to go to his own class if he doesn't know that people won't be there.

yes i agree there should be a similar system for JATs... we're only human after all. :)

Kalheka: I totally agree with you. The problem is not everyone does, or maybe not everyone cares. So by imposing this system, I realize I'm running the risk of teaching empty classes. I'm ready to take the risk because some people do care, and those people will make sure to remove themselves from the roster if they can't make it to let someone else enroll. It's just a nudge, and a reminder that, yes, it is important.

I think if you start penalizing students for not showing up, that class attendance will simply drop off.

Many students simply don't have any reason to take the classes to begin with. Penalizing the ones that do want to take classes only serves to hurt them.

---------------------------------

Now, students that do want to take classes, enroll in them, and then don't show are really doing a disservice to the others. Some of the class rosters fill up quickly, and in almost every case a few of those that signed up are no-shows for the class.

When you sign up for a class and don't show, you both waste the instructors time and disrespect your fellow students by taking class spots that someone else might have appreciated having. They probably would have actually used that time too.

I've said it before and will say it as many times as it takes to get you guys to understand. The foundation on which the Jedi Academy stands is respect. Respect is the one thing that keeps this place from being just like any other group of servers with all the lamers, whiners, and jerks that make it impossible for the rest of us to hang out, make friends, and most importantly LEARN. The only thing that makes the Jedi Academy capable of all those things is respect. Respect: give some, have some, pass it around and share it.

It would only be fair to hacve a reverse system for making sure the JAT's/JAK's attend class as well...

ioshee.. the current situation is such that JATs would have more work if they had to check off the people who didn't come, i'm afraid.

but of course, if this changes, then what you're suggesting works ;)

What about if the Trainers/Knights only have to check the box if someone DOESN'T attend class. That way if everyone show up, no extra work for the Teacher, but if one guy doesn’t show up the teacher has to do extra work for that one jerk, thereby making the teacher even more angry with the student in question.

or just do what i did: DIY :D

I like that idea Monty.. I might implement it if people still don't come.

Basically, my point is: If you can't make the class, what are you doing on my roster?

Something like a checkmark system sounds good.. but suspending is a bit harsh maybe. Just disable their access to the classes page for a few days. This way they can still complain about it on the forums :P

I agree Buzz. Not a ban, just a suspension and then they better show up the next time they enroll.

Here's something off the wall. I don't know how you handled the points system before, what the method was to give them out. What if you could have more of a check mark system. Say after the class ends the roster doesn't reset until 20 or 30 minutes afterwards. Next to each enrolled student is a box. If they attended the JAT puts a checkmark in the box and the website itself keeps the tabs. The JAT's won't have to go around from profile to profile putting in a point or taking it away. But it shouldn't be you miss 5 classes and then your banned. It shouldn't be the same as receiving warnings and getting banned. This type of thing should be like a suspension. After a few days you do return to class.

I suppose I can make up an attendance system. After a class a JAT or JAK would have to check off whether you attended or not. I could modify the site to close the accounts of students who missed say 5 classes or whatnot.

This will add more work for the JAT's and especially JAK's. I wouldn't want that to turn into something like the old points system.
