Is there gonna be our own files section on the hp anytime soon? For people to put up demos, the files used on the servers, and more. Just think I saw DJ mention it at one point, and I want to put up the Jake Hunt-demo I've got.  |

I'd go w/ kalheka...altho maybe it would be easier to just set up a bot on irc that accepts dccs from ppl. ftp always works..i mean it is the file transfer protocol after all ;p |

DJ, Perhaps an ftp upload site for files for review? That way files can be submitted, and scanned for viruses, then moved to the sites file section. Or perhaps a jedi academy account on yahoo messenger or one of the other ones. Yahoo and ICQ both have a file sharing setup where you can upload and download from the transfer storage directories. The setup could be done like a P2P deal. Incoming files could be sent to one directory. Files could also be downloaded, even from a seperate directory. _______________ Death is only the beginning. Okay, now I've gotten my documentary about the Kainitius hunt up for download. http://www.geocities.com/jacen_aratan/jakehunt.zip (The hunter is ShF. Flash, and please fogive me, this is the first demo I record) DJ-> If/when you get the files section up and running can you make some categories like demos, special skins and special maps (special meaning it have to be made by a JA member), and of course the official downloads of the Academy. well you could always point people in the direction of free web hosting pages. like geocities and angelfire. that's what i do, i use geocities to keep files online for people to check out and download.. _______________ .Lag Bro to Xanatos. I've got the db structure fleshed out. It'll take me the better part of a day or so to get the scripts around it working. My big concern for that right now is file submitting. Some of these files can get pretty big, so I don't think they should be upoaded by a script on the website itself. Email is another option, but some people have problems with large attachments, and I'll have to find a way for all the JACs and staff to review the file before it gets posted. We need to virus scan them, make sure they're zipped and have readme's, etc. Suggestions on this process are welcome. I think I have php's max file upload size seto to 8M, but the problem with that is some files can get larger than 8M, and the file submitter's browser will jsut sit there and churn while the file is uploading. _______________ My car is made of Nerf. |
