Me being me, was having a few silly thoughts this afternoon and came up with an idea to make a Single Player Level based around the Academy. Got great ideas for the level, although I havn't thought up a story line for it yet. But basically, I'mma make it so that you play a New Student to the Academy training with a JAT when something terrible happens, blah, blah, blah. I'm gonna be making loads of new skins for it, including the player skin (Let's face it, playing as Kyle in this scenario would be NO FUN!). This way, as you make your way through the Academy, you will meet and interact with several existing Academy members, like DJ Sith or Luke Skywalker. Even good old Jakey boy. Each member will hopefully be individually voiced. I'mma try and implement some helpful tips reguarding MP Playing and such, but the level will really just be for fun. What do you guys think? Good Idea? If so, tell me - What would you like to see in the level? What kind of situations shall we put the player through? And also, any good ideas for a storyline would be great. AKPiggott, maker of some of the best JK1 levels ever released, tried his hand at making a JK2 level. It reached beta stage a couple of months ago, but about that time he ran up against an infuriating problem. It seems there's a limit on the number (or, more accurately, quantity in MB) of voices you can put in a level. The game crashes if you exceed the limit. Which really screws up the potential for much dialogue. AFAIK he still hasn't found a way around it, other than lowering the quality of the voices to the point where they are of a noticably low quality. He's now fed up with the whole project, a pity since it was pretty much finished. JK2 SP levels also suffer from all sorts of performance issues. Which might explain the lack of decent JK2 SP levels. You have been warned. But hey, if you can get this idea to go well, I'd like to be a Lando skin who charges woohooing into battle and is among the first to be cut down, reflecting my immense skill  . _______________ Q: What do you call a man with bread and butter pudding on his head? Jake: When I said "Play our Hero" I merely meant the Voice. One of my ideas was to have no existing members embody the Player. And since I don't want this to be "Virtue Wars", I decided against providing the Voice for the Player myself. So getting one of the other Academy Members to do it seemed like a good idea. As for players interacting with themselvs. I think many members of the Academy would think this is a cool idea. As they go through the level, they are wondering where their cameo appearances are, how they look, and how much they rock. Ok, here's a little idea. This Academy is currently training Dark and Light Jedi's. The Padawan would first walk around abit and ask directions, then he would be sent to Huxley (since he is/was the Lead Trainer), he welcomes you, and gives you some vague warning about keeping out of trouble [be creative]. You are sent to your first lesson. While you're walking to that, you pass through a corridor where you see a group of people talking with eachother you try and ask them something, but they rudely tell you to go away. During your training suddenly holes are blown in the ceiling, and stormtroopers & reborns land (like in Yavin level). Your teacher says something like 'I knew we couldn't trust them', and accompanies you for a while, but get's dramatically killed somewhere [door get's stuck, teacher is trapped, zillions of angry stormtroopers, he fights alot of them off, but one bullet in the back kills him]. You fight your way through the level (visiting the canteen, JAC office, JAT class briefing (you know those military thing with a board and chairs where the lead trainer informs the JATs of something)). Since you are just a Padawan, you are captured at one point and you are brought through a secret passage to a dark (red lights), big hall, where you meet the big boss, [insert name of dark JA member here]. ------------------ That should help, I'll think of a way to rescue him later This comment was edited by Halendor on Jun 30 2003 12:23pm. |

I don't think the hero should be an existing academy member, no no no. You should be called padawan or something, so no names are actually mentioned. So like when people talk to you it would be "hello young padawan, hello fellow Jedi, Hello friend" stuff like that. One problem there might be, is the people that are in it, what about when they play the game ? For those of you who are saying "Can I be in it? Just for a second?" - What's the point in that? I'm not spending weeks making skins so that they can just appear in it for a SECOND. Hehe. If you are in, you are IN. And I DO MEAN IN. I'm going to give people a chance to have a guaranteed appearance in the level, and that is thus - If you can make your own skin and send it to me, you are guaranteed to appear. If you can't skin, then don't panic! I'll make it for you. I'll be posting up a cast list here soon of all members making an appearance. And which coward master from the JA would that be Faded? I like the idea very much. It's been so long since I've played SP (mainly because the sabering in it sucks compared to MP) so I'd love a new level. I'd help you if I knew anything about making maps and the likes. Stupid? Teletubbies, stupid? *Sigh* At least I'll experience the good times when the Teletubbies take over, not like certain unbelievers. Oh well. Btw, can I be in it? |

here's a storyline for ya: you are training with your master, and are suddenly caught in a military coup. DJ Sith has become fed up with massadoobie's JA dictatorship and has decided to overthrow him. your master, being the coward he is, takes off running to save himself. leaving you to defend yourself. but you, being the brave jedi padawan that you are, decide to do something about the situation. so you set out to crush DJ Sith's rebellion singlehandedly. have fun This comment was edited by FaDed on Jun 30 2003 05:26am. |

Yep, I can implement all those things. What I really need is a solid storyline. I don't want it to just be: "You are a student that duels people and makes your way up the ranks in the Academy". I want it to be more like: "You are a New Student to the Academy, the Padawan of Chicka (or any other JAT). You are training with Remotes, practicing your Saber skills when - OH NO! The Academy is Invaded by Telletubbies!!!" That kinda thing, but obviously not so stupid. The map itself will be very large, like an insanely extended version of the JA Map with new areas and different floors. Each floor with it's own puzzles that will eventually take you to the top of the Building for the final showdown. Any ideas like that are good. So..................GO! ah yeah man defiantely. Theres a severe lack of singleplayer levels out there, and the ones that are aren't very good All the good map makers only do multi levels, but I know if we've got old virtue on it, it'll be l337 Can you do scripted events, or onjects you can destroy ? Some sort of explosion, or rubble fall which you have to cut through would be good.
