Not attacking someone when they are down sure sounds nice and honorable, however...

In life or death combat, when one's survival is on the line, you don't worry about such things as "honor". There is no good or bad, only live or die.

And yes, I know this is "only a game", and that people "just play to have fun".

Well, you can play to have fun all you want. Me, I'm going to play to win. That's how I have fun...trying to win every single battle I'm in.

I don't win every battle, I'm far from a great player.

But rest assured, if you engage me in combat, I am going to do everything within my power to win, and I'm not going to let the little unwritten rules about what's honorable or not get in my way.

As for whether or not this makes me "jedi-like", I guess that's just a matter of personal opinion. In my martial arts studies...which was about 4 years and 40lbs ago...I remember most profoundly reading the philosophy of Bruce Lee. Quick, simple combat, free of styles, free of preconcieved notions of what is right or wrong. No form, no constriction, just simple flowing combat with one of two outcomes...victory, or defeat.

But who said that anyone has to conform to the "completely good" or "completely evil" stereotypes that we hear about? I would say I'm somewhere in between.

I respect everyone here, I follow the rules, and I don't get out of line. I just don't let people tell me what's right or wrong (from a moral, not a tactical standpoint) in how to fight. I take every advantage I can, outside of exploits, to win. And last I checked, this academy is for training you to better handle the world of online JKII play...and how many players in the general public do you know that fight with your own personal definition of "honor"...and how many fight by their own rules?

Consider me practice for the real world ;)

In closing, I'd say a good Jedi in terms of this game and this Academy would be someone who is respectful and helpful towards others. I don't think there's anything that outranks those two qualities.

Now Vaughn... Think hard about what you just said.

If you got caught in a saber lock, and was able to win... Your down on health, being on the bad side of this duel... Would you really really want to wait for this person to get up? I mean, seriously... It just doesn't seem right to wait when he's just lying there helpless...

hi i'm new here,...i think it's pretty hard being a good Jedi, not letting dark feelings flow through you while playing the game, ...i think a good Jedi should concentrate to block the next attack, not attacking first ...

a good jedi would not fight if at all possible. Saber lock down... dont attack right away - if they get up, continue. a Real jedi of the old republic would try by any means not to fight, unless it was a sithy (darth maul). the jedi uses the force to protect people, and the saber for the same reason. If you wish to be a truly great jedi, dont attack people. Dont initiate the fight :P (if you know where thats from, good job :P)

Eldrin, yes you should.
It's not cheating. In fact its the only force power you may use (I think :)) if try anything else you will notice that it wont work.

Cool guys... put this forum full of thinks!!! Let me put a question for a discussion of it: How a good jedi can use the light force very very well?

I personally don't do any of the lame things mentioned. I don't hit a person when they're down. I don't use only the one move in fights... if practicing a move I use it alot but not exclusively.

In a nf duel should you use push in saberlock?

Only thing about the saber lock issue is that the winner is usually the one with the higher ping, not the skill - so in that respect I think not attacking is the JEDI thing to do.

I think attacking after an opponent is down from a saber lock is fine. I mean.. its a duel and if you're out for the win why not take every advantage? That might not be a good Jedi thing thugh. :/

The thing I think is most important, is one of the simplest: respect. If you just respect eachother everything should be ok :) this applies to real life as well of course ;)

Someone who doesn't bow before a fight, or even tries to attack you at that time, is (excuse me for my choice of words) an ASSHOLE.

hmmmm.... good point. while I see that people do need to practise special moves, it's not fun to duel someone CONSTANTLY doing one move. It would be better to explain your situation to someone and have them practise it with you IMO. then they could practise their countering/dodging or something...

On Academy servers I think spamming (as in repeated using the same move) if it is for practice is perfectly acceptable.
I have been 'spamming' ydfa because I can't do it very well.

move spamming = lame

don't you just hate it when all someone keeps ydfaing or lunging or whatever?
and I actually do kick dfa's, but then ONLY as a dfa counter. I really don't consider that cheap or lame. =P

Actually thats more a good maners thing than a Dark or Light side matter.

You will find out that most ppl at the Academy wont attack you after a saber lock. Even if they are Darkyes (I said "most ppl" ehehe some will try to finish you when youre down).

In the good maners category you can include;

- No Kick DFA (kicking the oponent not a wall or pillar)

- Bowing before duel

- Complementing your opponents fight after the duel finishes (saying Great Fight etc.)

- Etc.

Well let's get serious then...

Would a good (read light) jedi attack someone when they are down (in a duel), say for example after winning a saber lock?
