The Points System, how does it work for you?

Howdy Kids, this is a thread for anyone that has taken a class, and not received points. If you are one of these people leave a comment here.

Edit: I'd just like to state for the record that my own points issue has been resolved.

Important: This is not a complaint box nor a flame post. I started this thread to help the JACs ascertain where some of the wrinkles in the new points system are, and give them a idea as to where to begin the ironing process.

If you're a student that has been shorted points just leave a post as to the circumstances.

JATs feel free to leave a post on how you handle the points system as well. Things like student helpers, repeating classes, Master/Padawan training, or anything you will or will not reward points for.

Maybe some opinions of how both students and JATS feel the system could be improved,if you think it needs improved, and any questions students have about system in general, would be helpful for us all as well.

My goal here is for the students to get a feel for what the JATs expect from them, and to help the council to smooth out some of the kinks of the system.

Edit: Well I guess it is a complaint box, but the point is not to complain. :)

The Canadian Jedi i dont think your idea would work because of one thing. There only teaching one person, the poor JAT's would be over taken by priv msgs asking for "leasons".

If you don't have time to spend every waking moment taking classes then why are you concerned with what your rank is? Up with the point system.

I might not be qualified to state my opinion here because I have like 47 points last time I checked, and that was a few days ago.

Ok, I feel a bit better now.

After reading nearly every post, I've propose the counsel should start a new programme:

When you go onto a server and you see a JAK or JAT that is really doing nothing important, ask if he/she can give you some lessons according to your skill level. After at least a 45 min. "lesson", you get a cls point. The curriculum for Learner's, J-man's, and Knight's trial should always be readily available for those who teach. You could call these ppl "temporary Masters" and the students "temp. padawans" and blah blah blah.

Man, I feeling like crap. I'm gonna go lay down. I'm done typing. If a counsel member sees this pls AT LEAST bring it up in your nxt meeting. *Falls asleep due to the stupid cold that is taking over Can Jedi.

How do you spell "point system"? D-E-A-T-H

I don't know, but this point system in my opinion is really going to limit JA initiates. I'm a bit concerned, and I really don't think the system is that fair considering I have to go to 7 MORE classes before I can become a J-man. I don't know about you, but I don't have that sort of time. Plus, my schedule is erractic so it's hard to say if I can even make it!

DOWN WITH THE POINT SYSTEM!!! lol

yo guys well heres how i feel on the point system....

I think its the first step. I mean sure alot of people think it doesnt works but what plan ever works out just as its planed with out having any problems ?....not one. Thats why we fix, and reform things. I think the point system is a very good idea it just need to be moded a bit so it can suit everyone a little better.

Even tho u guys might not like it we should have to take classes. I mean me my self HATED the idea of having to be forced to take classes to do trails, but know i see that doing it is a very good idea. Even for the best duelist out there there are still some good classes out there you can take. Like huxleys old saber style class, sklyers Avd. dueling class/team work class, La magra's knight trail prep, and Zero's class. So you see even if you are at the top of game there are still alot of classes you can take and some can be taken over again.

So over all i think its a great idea but it just needs a few fix's here and there.

The point system works partially fine for me.
As I am a newbie, I was in 4 classes, I was enrolled in all, and got 2 points.
one class didn't take place, so that's basically np.

I am also collecting points for the trial, but on second thought, my rank is not as important as the skills (to pay the bills) ;)

I think the point thing works OK....

About a week ago, I went to LaMagra's class, but missed most of it, so didn't get a point (which is fine). I then attended the next class, 15 mins later (which he was a replacement for, but I hadn't enrolled in). I couldn't get a point for this either, but I would have thought it wouldn't be too much trouble just to count it as if I had been to the class I enrolled in, because I still managed to get into one class for the whole duration, and I was enrolled in one... They were both taught by the same person, so it evens out...

Any way :P I agree, if the trials were based on performance, I would stay initiate for a VEEERYYYY long time.

In the 5 classes I've taken since the points system, I've gotten one point and lost a point.

I hate showing up to a "Full" class that has only 5-10 people. Yarr.

FYI,

This is the post I gave to the JAC and some JATs.
Just to let them know that there are still problems with this point system.

The Academy and the JACs, JATs, JAS, and most members are GREAT, but this point system still needs work.

I know we shouldn’t worry about the points, but without them we can’t advance.
That is part of the fun of joining this academy. It’s part of the whole experience.

I’m having fun learning, but I want the whole experience. Without advancement we can’t take the higher classes and our knowledge therefore becomes limited.

Ok, here's the problem AGAIN: I signed up to take my Learners Trial twice, having completed eight classes. I also had two class cancelled because the instructors didn't show up. I was also in another one, but it doesn't count because it was a roll playing class. After all of this there is only four points showing on my profile, therefore Huxley would not let me take the trials, (one last week or the one this week). This is not his fault, he is just going by the rules. He asked me to get the points from each instructor and come back another time, (which I did, twice).

That is why I'm sending this to each instructor again and the Council Members. Sorry to be so petty about the points. I'm just going by the rules.

Here are the classes that I completed:

Lightsaber/Movement relationships
Sunday 12 Jan 2003 JumpinJedi

Aayla Secura’s Training Class (combos)
Sunday 12 Jan 2003 Aayla Secura

Beginners Movement Training
Monday 13 Jan 2003 Huxley

Old-style Saber Technique
Monday 13 Jan 2003 Huxley

Aayla Secura’s Training Class (countering)
Wednesday 15 Jan 2003 Aayla Secura

Ricos class (Dueling Tactics)
Saturday 18 Jan 2003 Ricos

Boot camp 1.0
Sunday 19 Jan 2003 skyler_

The way of the saber
Saturday 25 Jan 2003 Jacen Solo

The classes that were canceled:

Guns Sunday 12 Jan 2003 Acidic
Guns Sunday 19 Jan 2003 Acidic

So as you can see, this point system still needs a lot of work.

Please post my point(s) for your class(s), in my profile.

Thanks for your time, again.

Boy that was long, but I hope still a good read.:D

I think it works for the most part. The thing is; and remember this is just the way things are for me, is that sometimes I can't make class. In case people don't know, family gets precedence. I lost a point bout a week ago cuz I had to help my mom take stuff to the dump. The trip took longer than expected, and obviously I cant remove myself from the roster if I'm sitting shotgun in a minivan.

However, I think the point system doesnt show how much people know. I routinely get whipped by "new" guys who are CLEARLY ahead of me (play wise) and they have to be initiates for however long. I don't agree with that. However, I'm not for a performance based system: I'd never make it past initiate. :D

Well thats all.

I would like to say that I also dislike the points system.

It's like the teacher you hated in high school. "Learn this my way in my class or it's like you don't even know it."

(I think I am almost ready for a Jman trial. I'd like to take a few combo classes and then I think I could pass with flying colours. Now, I need to wait a long time, maybe months, before I can trial. My motivation to learn has decreased.)

i agree with the mistress down there.. my time zone is probably the same, or something similar. anyway, taking classes for me is also a pain. i missed a class today because i had to wake up at 4am for it (on a school day) and i overslept... i have another one like that scheduled at 5am on friday. hope i don't oversleep this time. the only days i can take classes at a reasonable time are weekend days.

for people like the aussies and me, with +8, +9 GMT, the class points system is indeed a bit unfair. but i shouldn't complain i got my knighthood nomination and 21 points already... ;)

Hey no worries Ben. :P I created this thread so you had a place to share your views of the point system.

My hopes were that by sharing our experiences with the system, we could give the JAC/JATs a gage of how the system is working, and where it needs to be adjusted to better suit the needs of the students.
I only posted in response to seeing a few random post in various places on the site. I just thought it would be nice to have one thread for everyone to voice their concerns, rather than a bunch of scattered post.

It was never my intention to elevate points above the value of the lessons we are learning to earn them. After all, we are here to increase the skill with which we play the game, and help each other(some of us need more help than others, cough..me..cough) along the way . I am in no way contesting this. In fact there are certain JATs who may be annoyed with me over the next few weeks as I intend to take/retake their classes, points or not, until I have them mastered. Sorry guys I'm a slow learner who has finally gotten a fast connection. :)

Thank you Aayla and Jacen for chiming in. I was beginning to think my efforts were in vain. It's nice to know you guys are paying attention.

Keep your thoughts coming everyone.

The only thing I can think of is to allow the JATs to allow walk-up points to those who can't enroll...

Also about walking in to the class: IF the server is full(or close to it), you can be asked to leave to allow for those who enrolled to be able to join.....

Thank you for your words of encouragement Jacen. U know that i am genuine in my wanting to help though, because even the points system were put in place and before i even knew about them i was in your calsses helping you and tohers out. I do it to not only help those in need but to learn from it as well so that when i do become knight in the distant years i have the knowledge of how to train people as well. ANd if i get points along the way to push me towards the goal even further thats jsut an added bonus for me. Sorry if i insulted everyone but i get annoyed about these sorts of things easilt. please accept my apologies.

Youre rigth the system can be a pain for the Aussy folks. Im sure the council must be working on a way to improve the system.

Concerning the helping classes thing, I dont think it should be rewarded with points (my view only). Because when I let someone help I want to know that the student is there to really help not just to get some points.

But dont give up. You're a J-Man , you dont need to worry abaut points. Keep helping other folks thats the kind of thing that will win you a nomination for JAK not the points. Those will come eventually. Remember you can have the 20 points but that alone wont give you the right to get a JAK trial. It only makes you available for nomination.

We dont go around checking "let me see who has 20 points so we can nominate". Belive-me if you are an initiate and we see that you are Knight material we will be watching you untilyou reach the amaunt of points needed.

I HATE the points system, it would be good if it actually worked and was fair to everyone but hey its not so i hate the stupid thing, All classes are full, u can never get points, even when u do they never show up and so on. I live in australia and the class times are VERY auqward for me so i can only do a certain few at certain times, and hey, guess what THEY ARE ALWAYS FULL. how am i meant to get points if a fair system isn't put in place. i sitll turn up to calsses even though i am not enrolled, i help out classes when they need a hand, i help train new learners into the academy. I have probably have the equal to roughly 50 points by now if they had a fair system in place so that u can get points. i have been to roghly 30 classes, i have 12 points, yeah right. that worx, i have helped in 4 calsses, no points there. personally i cannot leave the rank of jman because of this system. I know people are gonna start yelling and going off at me again for this post but i don't care, i am entitled to express my feelings and this post is about doin that. i think the points system has totally let JA down, each day i get more and more annoyed because of it.
