Ok Here's a post with some usefull links. I will keep updating this as needed.

If you don't know about this site and you are a Windows User you need to know about this. This site will patch your os with any of the bugs in any Windows OS.
http://www.windowsupdate.com

A good piece of software to have. This will scan your computer for any kind of spyware that any freeware or shareware program that you download and install.
http://www.lavasoftusa.com or you can try spybot http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
*NOTE* Don't have both installed or they will say each other is spyware. I like spybot better.

A good free anti-virus program.. If you don't have a anti-virus I recommend you do.
http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_index.php

This site is good for information on ISP's(Internet Service Providers). It alos has a great little toolset for testing your internet connection and the forums are helpful for tweaking your pc to get the most out of your connection.
http://www.broadbandreports.com

Do you have windows XP or 2000 and a great video card? Seem to be stuck at about 60FPS, even though you say like com_maxfps 120? Simple fix http://www.ryanmh.com/files/reforce.zip is a fix for a Windows Bug that locks your frame rate at 60 fps when you can get higher. All you do is unzip that run it, click auto populate, hit Apply and reboot and boom FPS allover the place :)

I have the same pro as Koyi. I am trying to play X-Com (Terror from the Deep if you must know :)) and when I load it up, it runs the game WAY too fast, simply because its using the resources it can. Will that help slow it all down as well?

I have a question and I hope it isn't a stupid one.

On my old old old pc, I played games like X-Com that ran off of Dos from what I know. Problem is, my new computer now runs on Windows XP Hell Editions and I can't seem to get those great old games working again. I even tried the B.S. Compatibility Mode and it still won't work. Any programs I can purchase or download in order to make these games work on my new pc or should I take the advise of some computer shop hot shot who told me to buy a used older pc to run them?

Thank you very much for your help in this matter.

:D

If you put something as your domain, the domain server MUST have your username and password. If your school doesn't do so, then don't use a domain name. Just use a workgroup.

And well to log in as a local administrator, you have to choose to login to your PC (not the domain). Thus you'll have to use the password you set for Administrator of your PC, not the password you had when you chose a new domain. Try your older admin password, or, heck, try a blank one.

Orion...I'm pretty screwed lol...

I was trying to set up the network connection with my computer at school. Little did I know that the network outlet in my room wasn't even activated yet.

Anyway I somehow changed the domain name to MCDONOGH from the original LANGUAGEMASTERS...now the computer wants to auto log in with username 'Administrator'...but the password I set up when I changed the domain, 'president', won't work.

So I can't log in to my computer...whenever I try to log in it gives me the error saying I need to check the username and domain, then retype the password. Problem is the Domain input bar on the login screen has disappeared...so I can't figure out how to change it.

My regular desktop login username is 'mstier'...so I tried to input in the username field 'LANGUAGEMASTERS\mstier' and then enter my password. I get the same error. I even tried 'MCDONOGH\mstier', but that won't work either...

Any ideas on how I can log in??

Thanks, :)

Get a g-standard wi-lan. At 54mbps, it's faster than most isp will ever give you. Range is a little shorter than b standard but that's just because of the high throughput

Bleh.... wondering, is there any chance I can get rid of my friggin lag, which is due to my WLAN (I'm almost 100% sure of this, as I am lagless when I use a cable)? It's an 11 Mbps thingy, dunno what you need to know to suggest solutions, if there are any..

I was just wondering if any of you have a Virusscan to recommend to me.

I've been using McAfee, but mine seems to have problems with XP (and no patch for it  ) and I'm not willing to spend another good money on an entirely new one.

Anyone have a suggestion of one that will work great with XP?
Also one that doesn't make my pc too slow because he's scanning everything plz...

By this I meant an entirely new McAfee version

just wanted to point this out:)

I've been writing the base code for a chat program in Visual Basic.. It's not setup to connect to anything yet but I need some help recording multiple usernames to a .txt and having the program run through the list and check if the specified name is there.

Quote:
Dim User As String
Dim Pass As String
If txtNewUserName.Text = "" Then
MsgBox "No User entered, please try again!", , "User"
txtNewUserName.SetFocus
SendKeys "{Home}+{End}"
Else
If txtNewPassword.Text = "" Then
MsgBox "No password entered, please try again!", , "Password"
txtNewPassword.SetFocus
SendKeys "{Home}+{End}"
Else
'Write new name and password to file and close document.
User$ = txtNewUserName.Text
Pass$ = txtNewPassword.Text
Open App.Path & "\User.txt" For Output As #1
Write #1, User$, Pass$
Close #1
Me.Hide
frmLogin.Show
End If
End If

That's my code for creating a new user name.

Quote:
Dim User As String, Pass As String
Open App.Path & "\User.txt" For Input As #1
Input #1, User$, Pass$
Close #1
If txtUserName.Text = User$ And txtPassword.Text = Pass$ Then
Me.Hide
Form1.Show
Else
MsgBox "Invalid UserName or Password, try again!", , "Login"
cmdOK.SetFocus
SendKeys "{Home}+{End}"
End If

This is the read and confirm code but it's currently only for one username. This is the code I will use for the client but I need to know how to make multiple so I can implement it on the server side of the program.

Thanks in advance for your help guys.

oh i just thought about something that happened once or twice a few months back. my comp just made a decently loud humming sound when i turned it on, restarted it and it was fine. did it a few more times after that but havnt had a prob with that anytime recently, could this somehow affect my PC now?

well, ive noticed that it only happens on one game, the first old old tribes. ive played JK3 for longer periods of time, aswell as SWG and never encountered this before. also, would i beable to notice some kind of paste on the processor if i took a look?

Momar: Between your processor and your heatsink (fan or metal thing on the processor) there is a thin layer of thermal paste. This paste manages the ehat off the processor. But it doesn't last forever. Also, heatsinks and fans don't last forever. It's not that expensive to get some new paste and a new fan/heatsink. Just make sure if you re-apply the paste you do it right. There are guides on the net

um, you may have an overheating issue, or you have a power supply issue. I had a similar problem with my pc it would randomly shut off, and my problem was a dying power supply
